Laboratory for Nanomanufacturing
and Applications Nanomanufacturing has been defined as an
approach to design, produce, control, modify,
manipulate, and assemble nanometer-scale elements
or features for the purpose of realizing a product or
system that exploits properties seen at the nanoscale.
The Laboratory for Nanomanufacturing and
Applications focuses on organic-inorganic
multifunctional nanocomposites, hierarchically
structured nanocomposites, polymer based
photoelectric nanocomposites, and nano-structured
surfaces and coatings. The key technology achieved
in these researches has its goal enabling the mass
production of reliable and economical nanoscale
materials, structures, devices, and systems for
diverse applications in energy, environment,
communications and bio-sensors.
The Testing Laboratory for Nanostructures The Testing Laboratory for Nanostructures is a service unit of NCNST,
which maintains versatile facilities and develops techniques in the field
of characterization and measurement of nanostructures to support and
promote the research and innovation of nanotechnology both inside
and outside NCNST.
Nanofabrication Laboratory Nanofabrication Laboratory has a total
clean-room area of over 700 m² (about 100
m² for class 100 and 400 m² for class 1000)
in which there are diversified state-of-the-
art fabrication facilities and some
characterization tools available. The
cleanroom is capable of processing various
materials with a maximum size of 4 inch. As
a public nanofabrication platform, the
laboratory is accessible for the users of
micro- and nano-technology.
Collaboration and Exchanges NCNST has better collaboration with many research institutes and universities from countries,
such Germany, France, UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, United States, Russia, South Korea,
Japan etc. NCNST has hosted 5-6 bilateral or multilateral international conference in
nanotechnology. The biennial conference “International Conference on Nanoscience and
Technology, China” has been successfully held since 2005. These activities promoted the
general research capabilities in nanoscience research in China and stimulated discussions and
communications in this fast evolving field.
NCNST has launched a new academic journal Nanoscale with RSC Publishing, providing a new
platform for communication in nanoscience society.
Postgraduate Program The research-oriented postgraduate programs aim to develop students into scientists who
are capable of conducting independent and original research. In addition to the generic
programs of individual disciplines, NCNST offers “Nanoscience and Technology”,“Physical
Chemistry”, “Materials” and “Condensed Matter Physics” at the postgraduate level.
Doctor of Philosophy(PhD) , PhD programs require a combination of coursework and
independent research, with major emphasis placed on research.
Normal Duration of Study: 3 years if a relevant master's degree is earned prior to entering the
PhD program; 5 years with an undergraduate degree.
Reynier PhD student in NCNST, from Guba, he
won “outstanding student award” for
three consecutive years.
“I arrived in Beijing with almost no idea
of what “nano” means and with zero lab
experience.
With the valuable help of professors and
students, and with time and patience, I
am becoming familiar with new
terminology and laboratory equipment.
In the Laboratory for
Nanocharacterization, through use of
Scanning Probe Microscopy, I have been
involved in a project to study the wetting
processes at nanometer scale under the
influence of a high electric field, as well
as physical and chemical properties of
materials surfaces at microscopic scale.”
Anil PhD student in NCNST, from India, he
won “outstanding student award” for
two consecutive years.
“Most experimental apparatus can be
operated by students after properly
raining. Operating these sophisticated
equipments by yourself is exciting
process”
