National Hydrography Dataset Stewardship ConferenceApril 24, 25, and 26, 2007
Denver, Colorado
Objective:Objective:
To improve the National Hydrography
Dataset by putting it in the hands of those
who know the hydrography the best.
Premise:Premise:
• It makes sense to have one universal hydrography coverage of the U.S. – NHD
• For this to work it must fully meet the needs of the user community.
• The current baseline of the NHD generally meets this need.
• The NHD must now evolve to a new level of user expectations.
Premise:Premise:
• The USGS will not have the resources to bring the NHD to a new level of capability.
• The users are best suited to do this.
• But they need the USGS to provide, leadership, guidance, continuity, and assistance.
• The business needs of the user will drive improvement of the NHD.
