GIS UpdatesExhibits and Design and Development

• NTIRstaffhostedadevelopmentconceptplan(DCP)charetteforphaseIIofNewForkRiverCrossingHistoricalParkinPinedale,WyomingtheweekofJune22.Adraftplanwillbedevelopedforreviewoverthenextyear.

• WorkcontinuesontheLanderTrailFoundationinterpretivekioskattheFt.HallMuseumontheShoshone-BannockIndianreservation.

• NTIRandtheSaltLakeCityBLMofficeareworkingtogethertocreateaplanformarketing,signing,andprovidinginterpretationontheSilverIslandMountainsBackCountryBywayinUtahthatincludestheDonnerReedPassontheCaliforniaNHT.

• TheCityofRaytown,MissouriapprovedoriginalroutesignsforfourmilesoftheSantaFe,Oregon,andCaliforniaNHTs.Signswillbeinstalledinthefall.CaliforniaNHTsignshavebeeninstalledalongnearly14milesoftheSt.JoeRoadinDoniphanCounty,Kansas,thankstotheOCTAGatewayChapter.

• TheAlcoveSpringHistoricalTrustandNTIRwereawardedanActiveTrailsGrantbytheNationalParkFoundation,tosupportvolunteertrailbuildingandpubliceventsonsitein2014.Volunteershavealreadyreclearedanexistingtrail,andadditionalworkdays,guidedhikes,andarun/walkeventarebeingscheduledforthesummerandfall.TheDCPdocumentisinfinalreview.

• NTIRandNevadaBLMarecreatingasignplanfora30-milesectionoftheCaliforniaTrailScenicBywaynearElko,Nevada.CaliforniaNHToriginalroutesignsarebeingorderedforCityofRocksNationalReserve.

• SiteidentificationsignsarebeingdevelopedinfourOregonNHTsitesinMalheurCounty,Oregon.

ThefullfeasibilitystudywillbeunderinternalNPSreviewlaterin2014afterthestudyroutedescriptionshavebeenassessedbybothFederalagenciesandStateHistoricPreservationOffices.Federalagencyreviewsoftheroutedescriptionshavebeencompletedandareviewoftheroutedescriptionsbythestatehistoricpreservationofficesisabouttobegin.Forfutureupdatesaboutthestudy,pleaseaskaplanningteammemberorgoto:

Four Trails Feasibility Study Update Placeholder

OregonStateHistoricPreservationOfficereportsthatthemultiplepropertydocumentationformandnominationsforseveralOregonNHTsegmentswerewellreceivedbythestateboardofreview.ThenominationsforBlueMountainCrossing,WellSprings,andWhiteSwanandFlagstaffHilltrailsegmentsarenowinreviewwiththeBureauofLandManagement,USForestService,andDepartmentofDefense.NTIRfundedthesenominationsthroughcooperativeagreements.

Tribal LiaisonAtriballisteningsession&PawneeblessingwillbeheldforAlcoveSpringPark,inMarysville,KansasinlateSeptember,2014.

Trail Exhibit Highlights

PhaseIsitedevelopmentwascompletedinJune2014.Nineexhibits,siteidentificationsigns,anADApath,trailconstruction,anentrancesign,andaparkinglotwereinstalledandconstructedforthededicationceremonyonJune21,2014.About150peopleattendedtheceremonywithguestspeakersincludingtheNationalParkService,Oregon-CaliforniaTrailsAssociation,andtheBureauofLandManagementwhoallremarkedontheimportanceofpartnership.

DuringtheweekofJune22,NTIRhostedapublicmeetingcharettetodiscussanddraftadevelopmentconceptplanforphaseIIinPinedale,Wyoming.
