Introduction
A very warm welcome to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s annual New York Showcase. I am delighted to welcome you on behalf of all of the staff and students on our Acting and Musical Theatre degree programmes.
The students performing today are all US or Canadian citizens, keen to share the fruits of their studies from our unique, Scottish institution. As a national institution, the Royal Conservatoire has students from some 52 countries working and learning together in a close-knit, multi-disciplinary environment.
RCS has strong and active links with a wide range of Scottish and UK organisations including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Shakespeare’s Globe, the National Theatre of Scotland, the Citizens Theatre Glasgow, BBC Scotland and many others.
We are very proud of its reputation for producing generations of successful artists, such as James McAvoy, Alan Cumming, Denis Lawson, Alexandra Silber, Rebecca Faulkenberry, Laura Fraser, David Tennant, Sam Heughan, Billy Boyd, Laura Donnelly, Robert Carlyle, John Doyle and Richard Madden.
We hope you enjoy the performance as a new generation of talented and committed artists take some of their first steps. Please don’t hesitate to come and talk to me and my colleagues (as well as our students!) after the performance.
