NOVEMBER 2019
FOR ALL THE SAINTS…
The first Sunday of November is when the Church traditionally celebrates All Saints Day. This celebration offers us the opportunity to remember the lives of those who now rest from their labors, and the opportunity to reflect upon our own mortality. Beginning this All Saints Sunday we will consider some ques-tions I’m often asked about death and heaven, all of which can be articulated in the following two questions:
What happens when we die? Do we go directly to heaven when we die, or do we go to “paradise?”
The above questions, when properly discerned, reveal insecurity common to every person: namely, fear of death (both for us and our loved ones). Indeed, every person has the inherent need to know that our loved ones who no longer walk this earth still exist. Likewise, our own mortality compels us to seek the assur-ance that death is not the end of our existence. Jesus – fully God and fully man – is God’s solution to the problem of death: for all who believe in Jesus will become children of God, spared from the wrath that accompanies God’s Curse upon Creation. More-over, the grace and truth of Jesus offers a promise to the faithful in this life. Jesus promised, upon the com-pletion of His earthly ministry, that He would prepare a place for all those who receive Him into their souls in this life: “In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a
place for you.” – John 14:2 I encourage you to invite a friend to come to worship with you during the month of November, as togeth-er we consider God’s redemption plan for all creation: death and resurrection! In Christ, Pastor Randy

Building Committee Update The Church Conference held on October 6, 2019 at 6:30p.m. had a total of 90 professing members present. The motion to begin the Re-Imagine Architectural Project with financ-ing provided by Susquehanna Community Bank was approved by a vote of 84 in-favor, 4 against, and 1 abstention. The Building Committee will continue to meet regularly and update the congregation on the first Sunday of every month. Likewise, we will continue to hold regular infor-mational meetings to partner with you in the decision-making process regarding fin-ishes. The Building Committee thanks the congregation for all of their prayerful support throughout this process and asks that you please continue praying daily as we move forward. Wow!!! It is November already!!! Honestly, I cannot believe how quickly the time flies
by when you are having so much fun while in preschool! This month we have a lot of fun activ-
ities scheduled for the preschoolers. We have our first field trip scheduled for the Hummel’s
Farm on the 14th & 15th. Then we are going to have our annual Thanksgiving Feast with all of
our preschool families on Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We will be
making our famous Thanksgiving Turkey center pieces with the Busy Bees a couple of days
before our feast! The preschools Thanksgiving break starts Wednesday, November 27th until
Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Class will resume that Wednesday. I still have not heard any-
thing about the Nut Sale and so as soon as I get information I will make everyone aware of the
sale information.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glo-
rify your Father in heaven”
– Matthew 5:16
Sincerely,
Jayme Knouse

“Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes are availa-
ble in the Narthex. This is a great way to share
Christ’s love in a tangible way with children in for-
eign countries who may have never received a gift or
heard about Jesus’ love.
Please read the brochure from Samaritan’s Purse that is in your box, and keep it for reference. The boy/girl/age label is on the back of this
brochure. Cut out and tape it to the top of
your completed box.
Because of customs/country regulations, there
are items that may NOT be included in your
box. Make sure to read that list.
A money/check envelope is part of the brochure.
Checks (payable to Samaritan’s Purse) or $9.00 cash should be put in this
envelope inside your box. Please do NOT give payment to the church office, but rather put it inside your box. Do not tape your box shut. If you need a large
rubber band to secure your box, ask at the
church office. We have a supply.
Please check out this website: samaritanspurse.
org/occ for answers to FAQ’s and
for helpful gift ideas.
Have fun shopping and filling a box
(or more). Thank you, and if you have other ques-
tions please call Melissa Portzline (church contact
person) at 570-556-8960.
The Deadline to have filled shoeboxes to the church is Sunday, November 10th.
Dear CCUMC,
Thank you to my gracious church family for
the prayers, cards, telephone calls and visits
during my time of recovery from knee replace-
ment surgery. It is encouraging in knowing that
I have the support and loving care from my
family and the undergirding that I have re-
ceived from Christ Community. I still have a
little way to go. I am looking forward to joining
you all again in worship and in the praise of our
God. Thank you all again. God is good!
Blessings,
John Castrignano
Dear Church Family,
I want to tell you about my son, Steve, who
is still in the hospital. He had a tumor removed
from his brain and was in a bad way for 3 days.
He lost all his motor skills, he couldn’t talk, eat,
or walk. But with all the prayers, he has come
out of it. He is better and can talk again and eat
and walk and is currently taking rehab.
So thank you all who prayed for him! With-
out prayer, I don’t think he would be this far
back to being healthy again. I really believe
prayer is the greatest thing and I am sure it is
what helped him so far. Please continue to keep
him in your prayers.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
God Bless each one of you.
Steve’s Mom,
Betty Snyder

What’s New With Youth?
October has been a busy month in youth. We had our Lemonade Stand at the street fair at the end of
September. In total, the youth made $2,650! It was a nice hot day and the youth worked really hard! We even
ran out of lemons! We will be using the money to pay for the children we sponsor through the Life Care
School in Uganda and the rest will be split between our pledge to the building project and a future mission
trip. THANK YOU to everyone that donated their coolers, helped us at the stand or bought our lemonade.
October has been a busy month for us. We had the family soup kettle on the 6th. It was a fun evening
of eating soup, hot dogs and lots of desserts with our church family. On Oct. 12th we helped with the annual
Fall Festival. The youth will be helped with crafts, face painting and games. It was a wonderful fall after-
noon. We even got to go on a hay ride. One Wednesday in October we plan to carved pumpkins and had a
bonfire down at the pavilion. It is one of our favorite fall traditions and we had a great evening.
The Youth will be heading to the corn maze at Ard’s farm in Lewisburg on Oct. 20th. We will be
meeting at the church at 1:30 and then heading over. The Youth are also preparing for Student Sunday on the
27th. This is an awesome opportunity for them to share what God is doing in their lives with you.
In November we will have our fall Nerf Night on the 23rd. This is always an awesome time. Look for
details about that in the youth newsletter. There is no youth on Nov. 27th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
This month we have been talking about what it takes to be a difference maker for God. This means
different things for different people. God doesn’t always use people the same way. We have been discussing
stepping out of our comfort zones and not making decisions based on fear. We talked about using our spiritu-
al gifts to serve in ministry. Lastly we talked about how important it is to share our “God story” with others
and invite others to know God.
“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same
function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others” ~Romans
12:4-5
