If you are a micro-business, freelancer, or small business we have good news. On July 21st, LA County announced its version of the CARES Act to support a number of communities negatively impacted by the Coronavirus. Here are the details:Total Amount of LA CARES Act Funding: $1.22 billion
Support for Small Businesses A�ected by COVID:• $160 million for small business grants county-wide. These funds will support small businesses including: micro-entrepreneurs (such as artists) as well as nonpro�ts such as child care providers. Services will be provided primarily by the Departments of Consumer and Business A�airs, Workforce Development and Community
Services and the County’s Development Authority • $1 million for outdoor dining variance permit fee waivers in Unincorporated Areas (Public Works)

Each of the speakers gave their personal account of how COVID-19 has impacted their company and shared how they are leading the e�ort to transform how they do business. There were three main insights that each of the speakers highlighted in their comments:1) Reach out to support care givers2) Utilize virtual tools to do business and reach customers3) Develop new products to expand business and market share
Over 30 individuals were in attendance at the event which is sponsored by College of the Canyons Business Alliance. Given the success of this event we College of the Canyons plans to host a "Virtual Business Summit" in the fall to reach additional companies impacted by COVID-19.
VITAS Healthcare and the Health Workforce Initiative work to provide student learning opportunities for remote direct patient care activity for Nursing and Allied Health Programs at the California Community Colleges. It’s a win win partnership for community colleges with students receiving clinical hours while providing remote check-in calls from home. And students learning psychosocial and spiritual dynamics along with how to communicate e�ectively with the terminally ill patient and their caregivers.
