Welcome back to the new term. From my conversations with the students
it seems like there were plenty of great holiday activities and, better than that, they were
all happy to be back at school.
Staff Development Day - On Monday the staff took part in a foundation session run by
Kidsxpress: Understanding Adversity -A Brain based approach to learning and behaviour.
The course provided staff with foundational knowledge in the neuroscience of challenging
behaviour; key concepts in trauma informed education, as well as practical classroom and
playground strategies to support wellbeing and learning readiness. The session helped
staff develop an understanding of the prevalence and impact of toxic stress and trauma
on learning and behaviour, and practical trauma-informed education strategies which
help students to be learning ready and build skills to manage their behaviour successfully.
Great start to the term!!!

Thank you Chook Monitors … and everyone else! Thank you to Lily, Freya and Willow and their families for the fabulous job you did looking after the chickens in the holidays. I hope you enjoyed the eggs they laid for you to say “thanks”!
Thank you also to all our volunteers who are straight back on the job as soon as the holidays are over. On the very first day back I passed people doing student banking, working in the uniform shop, bringing donated fruit boxes and changing home readers – and I’m sure that I missed many others popping in to do a bit around the school. So a huge thank you to you all!
We want to hear what YOU want! Going home with this newsletter is a note asking for your feedback on topics that you might be interested in finding out more about in parent/carer information sessions. It would be great to find out what sort of short information sessions or workshops you’d like and what time of day suits you best. If you have time, please fill in the form and return it to school with your child.
Gunar Garung helpers in the holidays In the holidays we had a group of enthusiastic young helpers from the CMS’s MMM camp come and volunteer at school. They spent a couple of hours weeding Gunar Garung and putting plant guards around our plants to protect them from the cockatoos. It’s looking great.

P&C Tea Towel Fundraiser The KPS P&C are fundraising with Tea Towels again this year! These tea towels
feature a drawing of all the students and the teachers with their names (the
students draw their own portraits) and make a wonderful memento of school
life.
We will be selling them for $12 each (or 3 for $30) and they will be available
before Christmas. To make sure they’re ready in time to be given as Christmas
gifts we have to start drawing soon. Paper and the special marker pens will be
going around to classes early this term to make sure we get drawings of every-
one’s faces. We’ll be seeking final order numbers later in Term 3, for delivery
during Term 4.
