John A. Logan College, Center for Business & Industry held its Sixth Annual Southern Illi-nois Methamphetamine and Drug Aware-ness Conference on April 21 and 22 at John A. Logan College.
Due to increased attendance, this year’s event was held in the Brewer Gymnasium located on the campus of John A. Logan College. Over 500 people from all over Illinois including law enforcement, treatment providers, medical per-sonnel, teachers, child advocacy, prevention specialists and many state agencies
The two-day conference brought experts from around the country as well as local individuals for a number of break out sessions.
Michelle Hamilton, director of corporate training at John A. Logan College, and one of the organizers of the Southern Illinois Meth Awareness Conference at the college, stated “the conference is an important way to raise awareness and to bring together people representing different resources and agencies in the community. Con-ferences like this one also help people in the community understand what they can do to help stop the spread of meth and what police can't do.” Next year’s conference is already in the works.

Free Emergency Preparedness Training!!
National Incident Management (NIMS)
John A. Logan College is a provider of Emergency Prepared-ness Training, to include National Incident Management Sys-tem (NIMS) training. The college has established a coopera-tive relationship with Homeland Security, FEMA and area professionals to provide training to the local area.
Everyone needs to be prepared for emergencies as they can strike at anytime with little or no warning! Although many of our courses help prepare our professional first responders such as Firemen, law enforcement, medical and emergency managers, it’s important that others get involved in emer-gency management as well. The better you are prepared the better chance you and those persons you care about have in surviving an incident. We have training programs available to business owners, educa-tors and families. Our training programs, which are available to everyone, help famil-iarize students with the four main factors of emergency preparedness; to include how to prevent, protect, respond and recover from an emergency. The knowledge these courses provide could save the lives of your friends and loved ones!
The following is a general list of training courses we have available. This list is primarily a topic list; however, we often have multiple courses in each of these areas.
Please note these courses are entirely free to all!
Managing Civil Actions in Threat Incidents
Incident Command Courses
Emergency Planning For Schools
Safety Programs for Schools and For Educating Students
Guide to Citizen Emergency Preparedness
Protecting Your Home or Small Business from Disaster
Emergency Management Healthcare Courses
Law Enforcement and Fire NIMS Response Training
