Message from Youth Chaplain
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Do you ever feel you are a nobody, a failure? Do you ever doubt that you will
be successful?
Life can sometimes be very hard as we face situations that may cause us to
question ourselves and our future. However, we must always remember that God
has a purpose for our life. That is, we all have unique personalities and talents that
God has given us so that we would be blessed to be a blessing for others. The
Scripture reminds us, “For I have plans to prosper you and not to harm you; plans
to give you a future and hope”(Jer. 29:11). God already has a plan for all of us and
we must then submit to His plan so that we succeed. None of us are born failures;
in fact, we are born to be a blessing and to have a bright future and hope. But, if
we run away from God, deny His plan for our life and neglect His daily presence
and power in our life we fail ourselves. So, let us be proactive about our faith in
God and in His plans for our life. Here are six things that you must believe about
yourself:
The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (devil). (1
John 4:4)
Through faith in God, I can overcome every circumstance in my life (Mark
11:23)
I have a strong body that has been healed by the stripes taken on Jesus’ back.
(Matt. 8:17)
I have the ability to control my mind and cast out evil thoughts (2 Cor. 10:4-5)
I am poised for success and will not accept any defeat as final (1 Cor. 15:57)
I hate sin but love all people and have favor everywhere I go. (Prov. 12:2)

Peer pressure is a social influence exerted by oth-
ers on an individual. The pressure is exerted in order to get
someone to act or believe in similar way. Research has
shown that peer pressure has a greater impact on adolescent
behavior. Peer pressure is not always negative. There are
negative and positive effects of peer pressure. Peer pressure
can be positive if the peers help in changing the person for
better. Unfortunately, the peers influence persons to the
negative effects of peer pressure, such as loss of individual-
ity, change to the high-risk behavior and strained relationship
with family.
Peer pressure can lead to loss of individuality.
Extreme peer pressure can lead you to follow what your
peers feel right. It always happens to the person that has low
self-esteem. If you do not have confidence in yourself, you
may feel insecure and you will always seek the opinions of
others to determine your worth. You will adopt your peer’s
taste of fashion, clothing, music, and general living. Peer
pressure can actually lead you to lose your tastes of life and
original way of looking at life.
Another effect of peer pressure is that it changes
the person to unhealthy habits. You want to experiment
things and after that you will be addicted to drugs, alcohol,
smoking, sex, skipping school and various high-risk behav-
iors. As a result, there are teen pregnancies, sexually trans-
mitted diseases, and lower grades in school. They only want
to have fun without thinking of the future consequences.
Peer pressure will cause strained relationship with
the family. The teenagers spend many more time with their
peers than with their family members. They do not realize
that family is more important than friends.
In conclusion, what we ought to concentrate most
is how peer pressure can be prevented. It can be done by
teaching the children to be more confident and comfortable
in themselves. A strong support from family, an ability to

KIDS ZONE Jokes
A little Catholic kid praying for a car A little Catholic kid was praying as hard as he could.
'God,' he prayed, 'I really want a car.'
Jumping up and dashing to the window, he saw that the driveway was
empty.
'God,' he prayed again, 'I really NEED a car.'
Still no answer to his prayers. Suddenly the kid stood up, ran into his parents'
bedroom, and grabbed the statuette of the Virgin Mary off the mantelpiece.
He wrapped it up in ten layers of paper, using three rolls of tape and a spool
of twine, then stuffed it inside a box at the very bottom of his closet.
'Okay, God,' he said, getting down onto his knees again, 'if you ever want to
see your mother again...'
John'y version of Moses journey out of Egypt
Johnny was asked by his mother what he had learned in Sunday School.
"Well, mom, our teacher told us how God sent Moses behind enemy lines on
a rescue mission to lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
"When he got to the Red Sea he had his engineers build a pontoon
bridge and all the people walked across safely. Then he used his
walkie-talkie to radio headquarters for reinforcements. They sent bombers to
blow up the bridge and saved the Israelites."
"Now, Johnny, is that really what your teacher taught you?" his
mother asked.
"Well, no, mom, but if I told it the way the teacher did, you'd never believe
it."
Letters to a Vicar
Dear Pastor, I know God loves everybody but He never met my sister.
Yours sincerely, Arnold. Age 8, Nashville.
Dear Pastor, My father should be a minister. Every day he gives us a sermon
about something.
Robert, Age 11, Anderson.
Dear Pastor, I'm sorry I can't leave more money in the plate, but my father
didn't give me a raise in my allowance. Could you have a sermon about a
raise in my allowance?
Love, Patty. Age 10, New Haven
Dear Pastor, I think a lot more people would come to your church if you
moved it to Disneyland.

Many years ago a wealthy young man had been proudly driving his Ford vehi-
cle when he started to hear some strange noise seemingly from the engine in
the car. A few minutes after that the car stopped working. The man got out of
his car, opened the hood and began inspecting the vehicle. He spent hours but,
he was unable to fix it. As he pranced around, frustrated, a well-dressed man,
middle-aged man came up to him and asked what the problem seemed to be.
The young man explained all that had happened and expressed his absolute
frustration. The middle-aged man offered to help and eventually the young
fellow reluctantly acquiesced claiming it wouldn’t make any difference any-
how. Within a matter of five minutes, the car was up and running again and
the young man stood in awe. He asked, ”How did you do it? This is my car
and I had been working on it for so long…” . The middle-aged man replied,
“You see, my name is Henry Ford and this is my car; I built this car and so I
know every single detail about it!”. Similarly, we are His creation and He
knows everything about us for He has great plans for us!
The next few months will seem to go by quickly with the holiday’s
right around the corner! I pray that all the youths would get involved in the
various youth programs that have been scheduled. Also, remember that the
church is not just a Sunday but, a movement of the faith community. So, use
the holidays, your free time, skills, talents and knowledge to grow our youth
fellowship, church and those in greatest need within our cities and neighbor-
hoods. God bless you!
May God Almighty empower us to respond to His plans for our life so that
we would be all that we are meant to be!
Your brother in Christ,
Jaisen Achen

Dear All in Christ,
Warm greetings to all in Christ’s name. Namaste to you all in a true Indian way. We
are approaching another Christmas season. A season of hope for the world. Let’s
hope the coming months bring us joy and fulfillment of our vision for our Lord. We
immensely enjoyed our American adventure and more is yet to come. We need to
fulfill our mission to be the “REACHING OUT” church. It has to be a collective
dream of the community. Our reaching out may be even beyond the Malayalam
community and marthoma fellowship. Are we prepared for this challenge? Secondly
we need to refocus our attention to the children and the elderly community. We
need to bring the children and the senior citizens along with our youths and women
to make our church more vibrant. So reaching out is not just going out to the com-
munity outside of us it is even reaching out to our own members who are on the pe-
riphery. In the recent years our Sevika sanghom members and children had been able
to make significant achievements but we are far from the goal of being a model
church. We have the potential to make it to the top but we need to visualize reaching
the Zenith. Our church space is now being grossly underutilized by our community.
Now that our basement is also open can we think together to make our space
and time more relevant for our community to learn and foster relationships? Now I have one more concern that there is increase of alcoholism and obesity in the
marthoma families throughout the globe. Our church in India was pioneer in resist-
ing this social epidemic and our church had collectively decided to flush out alcohol-
ism from every family. Where have we gone wrong? Can we still say no to alcohol-
ism and lifestyles that are harmful to spiritual and mental health? It’s a challenge for
us to address very prayerfully as a family. This is my 12th parish and in my 12 year
of experience I had seen families breaking in alcoholism. It’s an epidemic and the
more we ignore it the more it gets rooted in our community? Even our young and
promising people in our Christian community are victims of unhealthy lifestyles that
include alcoholism.
Last I really pray for closer bonds and love among our community members. A
church united in its vision and mission is the need of the hour. Area group prayer
and church events had greatly helped to fulfill this vision. But we need to be more
proactive in this holy task. Let’s reach out to at least one family who we do not
know as we come to church each Sunday. Then Within one year we will be friends
with all our members. I seek that all members provide their email address and mo-
bile numbers to the vicar in order for helping me to communicate with you about
important church matters. You may also communicate with me with genuine con-
cerns and suggestions for the future. Please do pray for our church earnestly and stay
tuned. Let’s work together to make this church a historic community with a vision
for the future. May God Bless you. Pray for us too.
With love and prayers,
Benuachen and family.

Isaiah 9:6-7 (6) For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be
upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (7) Of the increase of his govern-
ment and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his
kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do
this.
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the
shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and
see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known
to us.”And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and
the baby lying in a manger.
Luke 2:15-16
The simple truth is that Bethlehem the birth place of Jesus,
today, has become a hot spot for internal violence. It is now the land
of tourists, too. We are not able to experience the joy granted to us in
the birth of Jesus Christ. Another Christmas season is arriving and as
we prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus, should we not find out
where Jesus is ?
What do we desire to hear today ? Has not the noise of vio-
lence, injustice, commercial interests, competitions, hatred and self-
glorification become a barrier for us to hear the voice from above ?
Is it not hindering us from going to Bethlehem and meeting
our Savior Jesus Christ ?
We as a God centered community must try hard to be
prayerful. We have only one master, who is Jesus Christ. We must
embrace peace and love. We should make this world a better place
for one to live. So let us be lamps in this darkened world.
Christmas brings happiness and Joy. We must forgive each
other and together try for the fulfillment of Christ’s wishes about the
earth.
Our spiritual progress depends upon our innocence and
faith in Christ. May this year’s Christmas bring us more Joy and
more Love. Then the New Year will also become fruitful and blessed.
I sincerely thank every member of the Church for the love
and support you have offered to me as the Secretary of the Church.
Wish you all a
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
