The past fortnight has seen the before/ after school care room abuzz with visuals
of 'Ancient Egypt' and all things green in celebration of St Patrick's Day.
Last week with the theme being 'Ancient Egypt', (as chosen by the students),
much excitement was observed with the creation of our weekly mural. Initially
the students made quite ghostly looking mummies by attaching varying lengths
of icy-pole sticks together, wrapping the stick figures with fine white strips of
material and then adorning their creation with a scary face. The children
enthusiastically also made lotus buds using varying lengths of coloured paper
and a pipe cleaner, and Egyptian necklaces using a partial paper plate, textas/
crayons and wool. Serpent crowns were popular, as were the camels made using
egg cartons and pipe cleaners. Using their own vivid imaginations the children
created fantastic tombs, pharaohs and golden pyramids. Monday morning the
students relished the pancakes which were made by Margaret, with the ordering
and distribution of these delights being carried out by two of the older students.
Friday afternoon we had the usual cooking activity. This week we popped corn
and made a delicious caramel sauce to coat it in, DIVINE!
A short week this week with all things green in honour of St Patrick's Day.
Tuesday began the activities where the children enthusiastically made shamrock
out of paper plates, green paint and green strips of paper. There was a real buzz
in the air as students competed to see who could complete the St Pat's word
search the quickest. Other activities included constructing pots of gold, woven
table mats and welcoming Leprechaun door hangers. The colouring of cheeky
Leprechauns and the drawing of rainbows was eagerly participated in by many
of the students. The Irish mural displayed all the colours of the rainbow, a
delight to behold. The Friday afternoon cooking segment of our week saw the
making of caramel treats. The recipe for this week’s sweet can be found on the
back of rice bubbles packets.
Enjoy the weekend!
Looking forward to next week,
Margaret, Georgia and Nusrat.
