Summary
• In this tutorial, you’ll explore the graphs of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines. The steps in the tutorial include:
– Creating a Graph Window.
– Creating a Slider.
– Graphing two Parallel Lines linked to the Slider.
– Graphing two Perpendicular Lines linked to the Slider.
Configure the Slider
This slider is for m, the slope of a linear function. Configure as shown. Press OK.
Move the Slider
Press and hold the Slider to bring up the option for moving it. Select Move and reposition the slider.
Input the First Linear Function
Activate the Function Entry Line by clicking on + in the upper-right-hand corner. Input the function shown. Press
Enter.
y =m • x
Input the Second Linear Function
Press + to bring back the Function Entry line. Input the second function, shown above. Press Enter.
y =m • x + 3
Graph the Parallel Lines
The graphs of these functions are parallel because they are both linked to the same slider, which
means they have the same slope.
Manipulate the Sliders
Changing the values on the Slider results in two different graphs, but they are still parallel.
Edit the Second Linear Function
Edit the second function. Press the + button on the upper-right corner to bring up the Function Entry
line. Then press the Up arrow.
