Could this be you
A client contacted the centre for assistance with Day Care provision for a relative from
Birmingham City Councilrsquos Adults and Communities Department The carer had been paying for
ldquoday carerdquo for their child for nearly 2 years This was at great cost to the main carer both
financially and emotionally After many assessments and re-assessments which also took a lot of
effort they were still unable to gain the extra provision that they so badly needed At this point
they contacted the Carers Centre After writing a lot of letters and making telephone calls on their
behalf the family have finally been awarded the extra care provision they needed and are
extremely happy with this outcome

At ReCOM we have built our training around volunteers who help people start to use the computers
in their own homes Clients include carers people with disabilities and elderly people who find it difficult to get out of their homes to learn new skills By learning to use a computer it helps people maintain control of their own shopping and banking keeping in touch with families or friends exploring hobbies and interests among many other areas Those we help are often people who
have never used a computer before and learning to use a computer often breaks down the isolation that many experience Learners tell us they appreciate the personalised approach
ReCOM also provides low-cost refurbished computers to individuals and families with disabilities and low incomes ReCOM relies on donated goods to make this happen
We are happy to talk through any questions you may have on 0121 765 5282 or email us at inforecomorguk
Are You Finding Your Stairs a Struggle As we all get older we all get a little less agile For some of us it is more of a problem than for others and our impaired mobility can really impact on our enjoyment of life
Patrick Stannah of Stannah Stairlifts says lsquoNobody likes the thought of leaving their own home and our stairlifts help people stay independent in their own home for longer Installing a stairlift can re-energise people and lets them devote their energies to more
rewarding activities such as playing with their grandchildren going for a short walk or enjoying some light gardeningrsquo
Stannah offers Age Concern Birmingham service users a 12 discount and will make a donation
for every stairlift sold under this scheme For more information please Age Concern Birmingham on 0121 262 3020 or Stannah on 0800 715346 and quote ref 135
