LEST WE FORGET

Serendipity Women’s Auxiliary

We would like to share an email we received recently;

“My name is Major Mark Palmer and I am currently deployed to Kabul in

Afghanistan. Just a short note to thank you very much for the

welfare pack I received from the RSL a few weeks ago. It means so much

to me to know that not only is my family thinking of me in a

foreign country but I also have other friends that are appreciative of the

sacrifice that I and my family are making. It means that extra bit special to

me receiving a pack from Phillip Island RSL as my father, John Palmer, is a

member of your club.”

He goes onto to say “I feel that the Australian Defence Force is making a

difference in Afghanistan making it a safer place to live and by this making

our world a safer place to live”.

The RSL Support Pack Project supplies wounded soldiers with everyday

needs (to the value of $600 per pack) that are not otherwise provided to

them. The PIRSL Women’s Auxiliary donated $5000 towards this Project

last year, through the generous support of our Friday Night Raffle patrons.

Many thanks for that support.

Our next General Meeting is

Tuesday, October 11 at

10.30 am in the ANZAC

Room.

Islanders Day Club In September Community Support Advisers from Department of Veteran Affairs, visited the Islanders Day Club, to assist with Training and Refresher training for the Day Club Volunteers, it was held in the RSL boardroom. A friendly informative Day, and I am sure all who |attended gained a lot of knowledge, inspiration, and fun.

What is the role of a Day Club? To provide a supportive social outlet for seniors and the veteran community, including those who may be socially isolated or frail, and unable to participate in other community or organised recreational programs. Day Club meets each Monday in the ANZAC room at the Phillip Island RSL

Celebrating the Volunteers!

The Islander’s Day club will be hosting a Day Club Volunteers Luncheon on October 26th. An annual event is held at one of 46 Day Clubs across Victoria and this year will be hosted in Phillip Island. Special guests such as the Honourable Mayoress have been invited and entertainment will be provided by Mae Parker. The day is held to cele-brate the wonderful support and input from all volunteers, as Day Clubs wouldn't run as smoothly without them!

Community Men’s Metal Shed Update

As you can see at the back of the RSL the Metal Shed addition is coming along nicely. It will be up and running soon with activities such as welding and other metal work. All welcome regardless of skill level, meet some friendly blokes down at the Shed!

Join us on November 11 for Remembrance Day, as we remember

those who served, suffered and are still suffering. A commemorative

service will be conducted at 11am at the cenotaph on the foreshore at

Cowes.
