Q: What type of school is
IATHS?
A: Expeditionary Learning
School, Technology Based
Learning Programs, Grow Out
Program to eventually be a 7-
12 school.
Q: Where can I get school
uniform shirts?
A: The first three are
provided, then students may
purchase short sleeved polos,
long sleeved polos and fleeces!
Q: What classes do 7th graders
have to take at IATHS?
A: English, math, social
studies and science are the
four core, along with music,
art, PE and technology
education.
Q: What makes IATHS different
from other 7th grade programs?
A: We follow a CREST (Caring,
Respect, Excellence, Safety, Trust)
Code, 7th graders are trusted with the
privilege of technology (iPads and
Netbooks), students get individual
attention from staff due to the small
and personal size of the school.
Q: But, IATHS is located on the Franklin
Campus. Is it safe?
A: Students are located in a small section
of the upstairs and are kept away from
the other floors of Franklin. When
students must leave the parameter of the
school, staff escort students. Staff also
walks students out to buses at the end of
the day.
Q: What about technology? What’s
available for 7th graders?
A: Each 7th grader gets a personal
netbook and iPad that stay at school.
Students also have access to cameras,
recording equipment, a full Mac
Computer lab. They each get their
own USB drive and headphones.
Q: How is technology used for
learning?
A: iPads and netbooks are used in
the classroom to enhance and inspire
learning. However, if the CREST
Code of Conduct is violated, we
provide paper versions of lessons for
students whose technology privilege
has been taken away.
Q: What special programs are offered?
A: At our school we offer programs such
as ROOTS (behavior and character
development), we have a partnership with
Channel 15 where students learn to make
videos and documentaries. We also have
a class called CREW which like it’s
rowing partner, teaches students to work
together to drive this ship of 7th grade.
Q: What support services are available?
A: There are many support services that
students can take advantage of including:
Special Education, School Counselor,
speech services, ESOL and ELL services,
Threshold (school based health center),
social workers, school psychologists and
access to groups such as the Hillside
Connection and the Boys and Girls club.
Q: What counseling services are offered
for my child?
A: Our school counselor serves IATHS
exclusively. We offer individual
counseling, group counseling, classroom
instruction, and group activities that
target social-emotional wellbeing,
friendship mediations, career
development, and college-readiness.
Q: Are sports offered?
A: Yes! Modified sports
include
volleyball, soccer, basketbal
l, bowling, softball and
track.
