The cut of a diamond says a lot about a woman’s per-sonality, style and the taste
of her husband-to-be.Learn the different shapes and the
preference of your significant other to ensure a positive reaction to the big question. Here are just a few.
Round – The circular diamond is the most popular for engagement rings and typically sports triangular facets, which give it supreme sparkle. The round cut’s cousin, the oval, shares similarities while distinguish-ing itself with a longer, flattering shape. Classic and creative girls flock to these styles.
Pear – Also called the teardrop, this shape is extremely feminine and attractive as a solitaire or surrounded by other stones. It’s perfect for unique ladies who like to stand out from the crowd.
Princess – The newest cut on the block, this rock’s construction keeps 80 percent of the rough diamond with sharp corners and an inverted pyramid look. If your woman keeps up with the hottest trends, this may be the one for her.

For Dianna and Cpl. Justin Hall, 1222 is a special number.
“Justin came across Genesis 2:22 which talks about God taking the rib out of Adam to form the woman to give to Adam as his wife,” Dianna remembered. “We found that so amaz-ing.”
The couple, who began dating in 2010, talked about marriage from the beginning, but after the tragic death of Dianna’s youngest brother and Justin’s deployment to Afghanistan in the spring of 2011, plans were put on the backburner.
“It was very hard when he left, but it got better as time went on,” she said. “We grew closer to each other even though we were so far apart physi-cally.”
His Nov. return with the rest of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune was a joyous homecoming, and the
duo planned a special trip to Colorado the next month to visit friends and to celebrate.
“At some point I wondered if he was up to something,” Dianna noted.
Justin’s secret plan to propose had been in the works for a while, but he with their special number in mind, he waited until Dec. 22.
After changing his name in her phone while she was getting ready, he called her at exactly 12:22. Dianna went to answer the phone, saw Justin’s picture and the question, “Will you marry me?”
“When he started walking towards me, I started crying and laughing all at the same time,” she said. When Justin dropped to one knee and asked for her hand all she could do was say yes. “I was so excited.”
The Halls were married May 5, 2012 and are enjoying their lives as one of the Marine Corps’ happiest couples.

You said...We were both in college, and I was exhausted and
stressed out. A new restaurant had just opened right around the corner, and he asked if I wanted to go. I was tired, but I said yes. At the restaurant, he seemed nervous, knocking over drinks and saying things that confused me. Finally, toward the end of the dinner, he pulled out the ring and said, “Would you do me the honor of being my wife?” I was so shocked I didn’t say yes for a full solid minute. Finally I shouted, “Pf course!” It was priceless, and the rest is history.

My husband sent me on a scavengar hunt picking up stones and clues along the way to significant places in our relationship. The final clue said, “I’ve taken you on this journey to help you remember where we’ve been. You’ve collected several stones along the way. Now, I want to take you on a new journey and give you a stone like no other, a stone that represents my love for you.” I turned around and he was on his knee. It was so sweet and romantic, and he got it all on camera.
Jeremy told me on our second date that he intended to marry me. I thought he was crazy and considered dumping him on the spot. He was really cute though so I held off. Eight months after we met, he called to say he bought me the ring. At first I was excited and anxious, but months passed and nothing happened. No magical moment or even an ordinary one that left my hand suitably decorated, so I started to doubt. I was certain he would never ask, had made up the ring and was playing me. Heartbroken, I decided to back off for a while until I mustered up the courage to end it.
A few months later, we were supposed to have a Elise Cummings
Julie Johnson
meeting at church, but at the last minute, he cancelled. I was so angry with him, but I went anyway. When I got there, there was a sign posted on the door and a note asking me to come in and begin an adventure. I opened the door to find the foyer filled with candles, and there was a path of tea light candles and rose petals leading from the door into the sanctuary up onto the stage with another note explaining that was where he first saw me. He asked me to be his wife, and of course I said yes. I was looking at my ring, but I couldn’t see it through the tears.Mary Beth Unthank

VenuesThe importance of the location
where you say “I Do” cannot be overlooked. Luckily, coastal North Carolina is overflowing with picture-perfect wedding locations for every style and budget.
Beach For the beach-loving bride, a wed-ding by the sea may sound like the perfect way to start a new chapter of life. In Onslow County, a permit is not needed for a beach wedding, but
it is a good idea to contact the Parks and Recreation department and make sure there is nothing else happening. It is also important to remember to account for the tide tables when plan-ning your beach wedding. It would be tragic if you arrived and set up chairs or a tent for your wedding ceremony, only to return hours later and find they have been swept out to sea.
plantationPlantation weddings are popular
during the warm North Carolina springs and summers. Steeped in his-tory, coastal N.C. has various planta-tion locations to choose from, all of which boast modern necessities to make ensure a positive experience.

ChurChFor a traditional bride, a church
wedding may be the way to go. Whether you are looking for a
large church or a small chapel, churches come in all shapes and sizes, and are sure to fit your needs. Many churches have their own rules regarding weddings and receptions.
Regardless of where you choose to get married, your venue and reception area is sure to dazzle guests as they celebrate your spe-cial day with you.

She takes a deep breath to steady her nerves as she gazes at her reflection in the mirror. Her aunt adjusts her veil and her mother clasps a string of pearls around her neck, sighing softly behind her.
In a few minutes, she will walk down the aisle toward the man of her dreams - her handsome prince.
It’s been a day they’ve both dreamed about for a long time. They planned, prepared and overcame obstacles to get to this moment. It is a day when she adds the most important chapter ever to her personal fairy tale - her wed-ding day.
The young bride takes a deep breath and steps out of her dressing room. With each step, she moves closer to the man she loves. When the doors of the church open, she smiles broadly as she locks eyes with him. He’s waiting on her. It is a beautiful moment, captured and frozen in time - the start of a new chapter in both their lives.
Every bride knows her wedding day will be one she will remember for the rest of her life. Long after the flowers have wilted, the well-wishers have left and the sounds of the wedding march have drifted
away, the memories that remain are timeless jewels, cherished in the quiet moments when couples recall the chain of events that made their fairy tale one worth telling.
Adding moments of classic elegance to your wedding can make it more memorable and meaningful to you and your guests. Consider drawing inspiration from something your parents did at their wedding or involving your families in part of your ceremony. Your wedding can still be all about you, but adding cherished moments of involvement from fam-ily members and close friends can strengthen the bonds you already have.
Save small momentos from your wedding day - the kind that won’t lose their importance with time. Placing them around your home will be a daily flashback to the day
you said “I do.”Add hints of vintage
decor if you really want to drive home the idea of timeless memories. When you pick out “something old” for your wedding, choose something with signifigance in your life. I had a friend who paired her wedding
dress with a string of pearls from her grandmother. The sig-nifigance and weight the family heirloom carried was something that added extra value to her wedding.
Above all, make sure you let yourself relax and enjoy the day. You won’t make as many memories if you are stressed about every little detail. While you want your wed-ding day to be picture perfect, there comes a point when you have to release your worries and concerns and enjoy the beauty of the end of every timeless fairy tale - the happy ever after.
Our most cherished memories hold a unique ability. They can make us laugh, calm our troubled hearts and move us to tears. They can provide comfort when we need it most and remind us of the adven-tures we have taken and those we have yet to begin.
On her wedding day, and for many years after, the timeless bride will recall the memories that made the day she said “I do.”

Let’s face it. Weddings are expensive affairs. If you’re looking for a way to cut costs or minimize spending for your wedding, do-it-yourself invitations are becoming increasingly popular in today’s society.
All you need to make your own wed-ding invitations is drive, excitement and an idea of how you want your invitations to look. A quick trip to your local craft store can supply you with almost every-thing you need to make one-of-a-kind wedding invitations to mail to the guests you hope will join you for your nuptials.
Use a ruler and pencil to design the rough draft of your invitation. After you’re pleased with how it looks, you can use markers, ink, stencils or paint to final-ize the design.
After you write down or print the basics of your wedding, make your invita-tion personal. Try incorporating your theme into your invitations.
After you decide which colors you want to use and how you want your design to look, add finishing touches to make your wedding unique. Are you planning a beach-wedding? Take a walk on Onslow Beach and pick up small shells to glue to the corners of your invi-tations. Will your wedding take place in one of the Crystal Coast’s local gardens or parks? Include a nice photo of you and your fiance at your venue of choice.
An easy way to make your invitations seem even more personal and hand-made is to take the time to address them personally. Pull out the phone book and address envelopes while you watch televi-sion in the evening.
Your hand-made invitations are sure to catch the eye of your guests. The care and attention you put into making sure their invitations were special will not go unnoticed by those you invite to share your special day.

Make your big day unforgettable...
Country charm in a romantic setting
16 operation wedding day
The sight and smell of flowers heightens the drama and beauty of any event. For a wedding, their pres-ence may be subtle but vital in setting a romantic environment.
Brides don’t be burdened by your choice of blooms. Keep these helpful tips on hand to make sure you pick the right petals for your big day.
Make it personal. When it comes to your bouquet, try to include flow-ers that have significance to your and your betrothed. Do you remember the first roses he gave you? Why not incorporate them?
It’s also fun to mix things up. Take your favorite flower and com-bine his birth month flower as an accent so it’s meaningful to you both.
Shape it up. Traditional bou-quets tend to be tightly-bound and round, but some brides choose to loosen things up. Try cradling long-stemmed flowers in your arms or carry a cascading array of bright blossoms.
Don’t forget the flirt. Your love for each other will be obvious, but including hints of romance in your pack of petals will make the big day still feel intimate. Weave pearls throughout the stalks, add lace from your dress or go simple by including soft colored flowers in ivory or pink.
No matter your ultimate decision, rest easy knowing the fragrance of love will spill from every bloom.

We pride ourselves on giving you one on one attention.
283 Rhodestown Rd, Jacksonville
Couples often fret over what to serve their guests at the reception, and rightfully so. Reception costs can com-prise a majority of the wedding-day budget. When spending $100 or more per guest, you want to ensure you’re getting what you paid for and that guests enjoy what they’re eating.
Filet mignon may be a good choice, but steak tartare is probably best avoided. Find out which foods to avoid serving your wedding guests.
You may be a risk taker when it comes to cuisine, but others may not share your zeal for exotic foods. Now is not the time to introduce guests to the wild and wacky.
Why risk an accident for a spec-tacle? Baked alaska, cherries jubilee, apples flambe ... these are foods that might provide a show, but the cost may not be worth it in the end.
Clams on the halfshell or sushi-grade tuna may seem like good ideas, but keep in mind that it is hard to en-sure quality when feeding 200 people at the same time. Foods that require special refrigeration or immediate ser-vice for freshness are best left for other occasions. Don’t risk food poisoning on a room full of people unless you want your wedding to be remembered for stomach cramps.
Two or three courses is fine, but if guests have to sit through a never-ending parade of courses, that limits their ability to mingle and have a good time.
The faster servers can get food out to guests the better. If they have to sit there piping mashed potato roses on dishes or assemble intricate canapes, the delay might not be worth the presentation. And remember, the
more bells and whistles, the higher the price tag.
Don’t dye that baked potato purple because you want the wedding to be a plum-colored affair. Also, it’s best to avoid themed food, unless it is part of a cultural wedding or can be pulled off with class. It’s much easier to pass off crepes and croissants for a Parisian wedding than giant turkey legs and tankards of ale for a Renaissance-themed one.
Whether your wedding is small or grand in scale, guests will expect some sort of food. Be sure to have some butler-passed hors d’oeuvres or some well-placed pickings for guests to grab while mingling. After all, they will need something to provide the energy to mingle and dance, and food can help buffer the effects of too many cocktails.

CateringAsk your average wedding
guest what they remember about the reception and chances are you will get a comment about the food they were served.
Whether you are planning to serve a full-course meal or just offer finger foods, making sure you find the right caterer to suit your needs and budget is essential.
Don’t let yourself get car-ried away with your options, especially when it comes to catering. You’ll have enough to worry about without going over budget or getting roped into planning with a company you don’t really like.
The Clubs and Catering division of Marine Corps Community Services aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune can help you con-tact caterers for your on-base wedding reception, and the Onslow County Department of Tourism has a large list of vendors who will be more than happy to help you plan your menu.
Most caterers will work with you to customize your menu and add details to your catering package to make it unique for your wedding reception.
After you are sure you will not overstep your budget, you can begin the search to secur-ing your catering company. Decide whether you want to serve a full meal or just hors d’oeuvres at your wedding reception. Next, do your research and contact a few companies you’re interested and head over to their busi-ness to set up interviews and discuss concerns.
Once you’ve narrowed down your choices, it’s not un-reasonable to ask for a tasting session. A tasting allows you to ensure you’re satisfied with the quality of the food and ser-vice provided by the company before making any concrete decisions. You don’t want to get stuck with a caterer who doesn’t put the needs of his clients first.
When you have chosen your caterer, be very clear on your expectations, but be open to working with your catering company. Don’t be unrealistic.
Your wedding catering will be one of the most memorable parts of your reception, so make sure you budget accord-ingly and don’t let yourself be talked into something you don’t like. It’s your day – make the most of it.

The pretty combination of these colors will bring a touch of elegance to your
special day. Incorporating them into your invitations, decorations and attire will
be no problem since they are extremely complimentary. Don’t be afraid to mix
the shades in your bouquet either.
These happy hues can brighten the mood of even the most bummed out

ribbon. The sky is the limit with this bright mixture.
The subtlety of this classic pairing won’t be lost as their soft tints are found
in each detail. Both colors will flatter members of your bridal party from the
dresses to the ties. Add a feminine touch to your reception by placing pink roses

Hearing the words, “I love you,” is always a pleasant thing.
Love comes in all shapes and forms, however, and in order to keep your rela-tionship strong, you need to learn which love language your lover speaks.
Dr. Gary Chapman’s best-selling book, “The Five Love Languages,” explains the most common ways men and women communicate when it comes to love.
“Unhappiness in relationships is often due to the fact that we speak different love languages,” he said. “Sometimes we don’t understand our partner’s require-ments, or even our own.”
The five love languages are: Physi-cal touch, words of affirmation, quality time, gifts and acts of service.
Physical touch isn’t necessarily focused on the bedroom. Hugs, holding hands and even a pat on the back are crucial to those who speak this language.
For people who receive love most
through words of affirmation, what you say may be even more important than what you do. Don’t be selfish with the flattery.
Quality time means having undivided attention. A person who receives love in this manner adores knowing that they are the only person or thing you want to spend your time on.
Did you know washing dishes can mean as much as a diamond ring? Those whose language is acts of service appre-ciate having the load of responsibilities eased.
Finally, certain people accept love by getting gifts. Don’t mistake this language for materialism. Gifts don’t have to be expensive but thoughtful with effort put behind them.
Armed with answers to the opposite sex’s questions and figuring out the language they speak will ensure not only a successful Valentine’s Day, but an enriched relationship.

OperatiOn wedding day 21
As a whole, your wedding will be an experience you will remember the rest of your life. However, sometimes, it is the small, nearly-unnoticible touches that make the day you say “I do” more memorable than you ever imagined.
The little details you add to your wedding should first and foremost reflect your personality. Small touches help your guests understand your relationship with your new spouse.
Are you a couple who loves the beach, but doesn’t neces-sarily want a beach-themed wedding? Do you love music or being outdoors? Try to incorporate your favorite things into your wedding and reception without being too over the top.
If you are planning to host your wedding and reception along the North Carolina coastline, use the beauty of the beach to add natural-looking touches to your wedding by anchoring your centerpieces with sand or pieces of driftwood you find along the shore. Are you preparing to repeat your vows to your favorite Marine or Corpsman aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune? Incorporate your appreciation for the military into small details in your wedding and reception.
You don’t have to overwhelm your guests with details. Subtle additions will add a certain level of intimacy to your wedding and remind guests of what you and your spouse treasure.
However you choose to express yourselves, little details can add flair to your wedding. The smallest things can make a big statement.

By Amy BinkleyAfter months of planning, you’re
finally getting married. But as the mo-ment to declare your love in front of all your friends and family grows closer, do you know what to say?
The exchanging of vows is one of the most romantic and intimate parts of a wedding. Your guests will be waiting in anticipation to hear the promises you’ll make to each other. Talk about pressure.
Even though your love may be as deep as the ocean and as high as the sky, sometimes words can just escape us.
Luckily, there’s always help, whether it’s through a handwritten note, a
minister or Google.If you’re a traditional couple,
promising to love each other in sickness and in health as long as you both shall live is the perfect way to affirm your affections. Millions of lovebirds have already given the sentiments a good track record.
Others may choose to borrow heart-felt words from famous love poems or songs to express their feelings. Eliza-beth Barrett Browning’s poem “How Do I Love Thee?” always produces a few tissue moments.
Another increasingly popular and in-credibly more personal way to proclaim your devotion is to write your vows yourself. They don’t have to be perfect, but they should be honest.
Swear to always leave the seat down and to make coffee every morning. Profess an undying adoration for him or her despite morning breath, bad moods and burnt dinners.
As long as the words you say, wheth-er original or borrowed, come from your heart, you’re happily ever after is yours for the taking.

People seem to be into small portions when it comes to dessert lately. A lot of cakes go uneaten. Cupcakes make a really nice presentation. It’s different.
OperatiOn Wedding day 23
Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too? Wedding cakes top off your day in a big way, but they aren’t the only sweet treat out there.
Cupcakes. A smaller version of the traditional cake be-came widely popular in the past few years. Because of their personalized size, you can keep the decoration as simple or as intricate as you’d like. Just make sure to pick a yummy flavor, like classic chocolate or something more exotic like coconut.
Pie. The newest trend in sweets comes in apple, peach and any other flavor you can imagine. Not only are they ex-tremely tasty, they are also photogenic and affordable. Plus, a pie in the face is a lot funnier than cake.
S’mores. Couples moving away from stuffy traditions and more toward fun are flocking to a new twist on the old fa-vorite. S’mores allow your guests to feel like kids again while enjoying the grown-up version of the treat. Try gourmet marshmallows in flavors like peppermint or peanut butter.
Also offer a decadent variety of chocolates like dark, white or even bacon-flavored. Hold it all together with cinna-mon or honey graham crackers, and rest assure your recep-tion will be the talk of the season.

Once the ceremony is over and the vows have been exchanged, it’s time to celebrate your wedding with family and friends. Receptions have long-standing traditions to help make your celebration memorable.
Many receptions begin with the traditional presen-tation of the wedding party, followed by the bride and groom’s first dance. The first dance symbolizes the new chapter in your lives, which is starting to unfold.
Wedding receptions glorify the bouquet and garter toss. This tradition, supposed to represent the next man and woman to wed in the crowd of guests, is typically a big crowd-pleaser and followed by a lot of laughter and cheers.
Often, brides and grooms will book a band or DJ at their wedding reception to keep track of the music. Having entertainment helps keep the party going and provides guests with the opportunity to dance or relax and watch the festivities.
When planning your reception and wedding cel-ebration, don’t forget the countless traditions you can choose from. Reception traditions help remind your guests, in the midst of the party, of the real reason you are celebrating.

Don’t forget to
Looking back at your wedding day, you’ll probably find what seemed so traumatic at the time make for hilarious stories to tell on your anniversary. Here are some real life wedding bloopers to remind you how nothing is perfect but a lot of things are really funny.
We had an outdoor wedding on my husband’s grandparent’s farm. Apparently there was a bee in my veil. My sister eventually tried to knock it off, but she knocked off my veil instead.
Sarah McVey
Our flower girl dropped too many of her petals too quickly, and she ran out half way down the isle. She paused and whisper-yelled to her mom that she didn’t have anymore. It took a few minutes to convince her to keep walking anyway.
Kristy Alexander
I was so intent on staring into his eyes and listening to him repeat his vows that when my turn came I didn’t say anything. My friends giggled and snapped me out of the moment and I nervously responded, “Oh, I guess that’s my cue.” It was so embarrassing.
Jem Banfield
My husband dropped cake down my dress while he was feeding it to me for pictures. He stuck his hand in right in front of all our friends and family. Let’s just say he got more than a handful of cake.
Lauren Brown
When our minister asked my father who was giving the bride away, he said, “Her mother.”

End your wedding day in flawless styleBy Jessie HeatH
The wedding is over, the recep-tion is winding down, and you are getting ready to make your great escape. There are countless ways to depart from your guests in a unique style all your own.
If you’re a traditional bride, you may opt to have guests toss handfuls of birdseed, rice or confetti as you and your spouse run toward your limosine or car. Before you decide this is the way to go, though, you should make sure your reception venue allows anything to be tossed on the ground. If your venue does not allow anything to be thrown, there are plenty of other methods to celebrate your great escape.
Steamers and sparklers are becoming increasingly popular and
easy to clean up after. Each guest can be given a sparkler to light or a streamer to wave as the bride and groom dash through them.
Eligible Marines and their spouses aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and other bases may choose to leave through the Arch of Swords Ceremony. Marines who are NCO’s or officers may choose to have an Arch of Swords Ceremony as they leave their wedding. Par-ticipants may be chosen from the Marines friends, or may be recruited from the honor guard, off-base reservist drill centers or the ROTC.
Once you arrive at your vehicle, the escape is not over - it’s just beginning. Consider driving away in a classic-model car or being swept
away by a horse-drawn carriage, adding a dramatic flair to the end of your wedding reception.
However you choose to leave your wedding or reception, do it with a smile on your face.

Who’s ready for the honeymoon?
After the ceremony is finished and guests are long gone, it’s time for you newly wed-ded couples to have some fun. You don’t have to go too far from home though to start your new adventure.
Coastal Carolina provides plenty of locations perfectly suited for your first getaway as husband and wife.
Bald Head Island, N.C., is ideal for couples looking to escape the busyness of life. Accessible only by ferry and with no cars allowed
on the land, the cozy retreat offers 14 miles of breathtaking Atlantic beaches. Newlyweds can also ex-plore Old Baldy, North Carolina’s oldest lighthouse.
North Carolina’s Outer Banks also boast fantastic scenery and a rich history of the state. Get cozy in one of the many historic Bed and Breakfast Inns, learn about the legend of the pirate Blackbeard or watch the wild ponies run along the beaches.
If you’re looking for a non-stop, action packed honeymoon, look
no further than Myrtle Beach, S.C. Experience the romance and beauty of its sandy shores, take in a concert or theater production or dance the night away. With a choice of more than 1,800 full service restaurants, you and your sweetheart can dine in elegance or a casual environment.
Coastal Carolina may be one of the country’s best hidden treasures when it comes to honeymoon des-tinations. Remember, sometimes the most fun is found in your own backyard.

Brides-to-be thinking of asking a pregnant friend or family member to be in the bridal party should know such a request is common. Recent findings indicate that around half of all weddings now have at least one member of the bridal party showing off a baby bump -- sometimes it’s even the bride herself.
Barring a medical condition, there is no reason a pregnant woman can’t be in the wedding and fulfill her obligations, so feel free to invite that special someone to be in the wedding. There are just a few things to consider to help make it easier on everyone involved. Think over these things.
One of the things brides and bridesmaids often fret about is the gown they will be wearing. While nonpregnant members of the bridal party won’t fluctuate much in weight
from the day of their first fittings to the wedding day, a pregnant woman is growing with new life within her from the moment of concep-tion. This will have to be taken into consideration. Some maternity designers create bridesmaid dresses for pregnant women, but they may not exactly match the other gowns in mind. Ask the bridal store if al-terations can be made to a standard gown, including ordering a much larger size, adding elastic panels or another way to ensure the gown will stretch over a growing belly. Also, be considerate and choose a gown in an empire waist style so that it is flatter-ing for the pregnant bridesmaid.
While pregnant, some women’s feet swell. Having strict restrictions on footwear can make a pregnant woman uncomfortable. Low heels or ballerina slippers can be comfortable
and fashionable. The other members of the bridal party may also thank you for choosing a sensible shoe.
Many activities during the wed-ding are bound to be tiring. But someone who is pregnant may feel it more than others. Ensure your mama-to-be has ample time to sit and rest. Also, try to have planning meetings near a restroom where she will be comfortable.
From bachelorette parties to the wedding itself, be sure there are plenty of nonalcoholic and decaf-feinated drinks she can enjoy. Preg-nant women need to have a lot of water to meet the physical demand of pregnancy as well.
In the latter months of the preg-nancy, many doctors advise against air travel. Spending long hours in a car may be uncomfortable as well. If you were thinking about having the
things to consider when you have a
pregnant bridesmaid
OperatiOn wedding day 31
wedding far away, these are things that must be taken into consider-ation. You may want to revise your plans if your heart is set on having this woman in the bridal party.
It can be tiring for a pregnant woman, especially one in the last trimester, to stand for a long period of time. If you are having a long, religious ceremony, see if a seat can be arranged so your brides-maid can sit down when she needs a rest.
Some pregnant women will jump at the chance to be in the wedding, while others may real-ize their limitations and prefer to attend only as a guest. Have a an-other person in mind in case your bridesmaid invitation is declined, and do not hold it against the per-
son if she feels she won’t be able to commit during her preg-nancy.
Although all eyes are generally on the bride on her special day, having a pregnant bridesmaid may garner a share of “oohs and aahs”
and attention for her as well. It’s a humble bride who can share her spotlight for a while. And remember, the “something new”at your wedding may be that new baby who is on the way!

After a bride says “I do” to a life with her new husband, she often says “I do” to a new last name. Whether she takes the name as a loving gesture, to make it more convenient when having kids, or simply to rid herself of an unappeal-ing maiden name, changing her surname will require some steps to ensure the legality of a change in identity.
Because a name change will require a copy of the marriage certificate -- something that isn’t often obtained until after the ceremony -- it’s best to wait until after you’ve returned from a honeymoon to change documentation. Also, in order to travel, you may require birth certificates, passports, a license, or another form of ID. It will be impossible to change all of those forms of identification before the wedding. Incon-sistent documentation could cause hang-ups in the travel process. Additionally, you may be charged if you try to change your name on airline tickets af-ter they’ve already been issued. Therefore, enjoy your maiden name a little longer until the honeymoon bliss is over and it’s back to reality.
Ready to get started? Here are the documents you’ll need to change as you take on your new married name.
1. Social Security Card: If you are a U.S. resident, you will need to go to your local social security office, or down-load a form from the IRS Web site to apply for a change of name on your social security card. It takes approximately 10 days after the application is re-ceived for the IRSto update the records. In Canada you will need to change your Social Insurance Number card.
2. Drivers license: In order to change your drivers license
and vehicle registration, you’ll likely have to visit the Depart-ment of Motor Vehicles, or whatever the agency is called in your area. You will need several forms of identification, two of which will be your mar-riage certificate proving change of name and your social secu-rity card. Also have your old drivers license with you.
3. Passport: Contact the Passport Agency to update your name on your pass-port. You may or may not be charged for the new issue depending upon how long it’s been since you applied for a passport.
4. Insurance policies: If you have health insurance, life insurance, or a 401(k) plan, you should communicate your change of name to the respec-tive companies.
5. Bank accounts: Guests will likely issue gift checks in your married name or as a couple. It helps to have an account available in which to deposit those checks.
6. Employer: Have your employer change your name in their records and update payroll and any other services. You will also want to update e-mail stationery to reflect your new name and have your IT director change your informa-tion for computer logins and e-mail addresses. A courtesy e-mail to clients will fill them in on your name change.
7. Credit card & utility companies: Notify these com-panies of a change of name. Some may require written documentation to complete the change.
8. Wills and other legal contracts: Have legal docu-ments amended to feature your updated name. You may want to change your beneficiary to your husband.

With all the work that goes into planning a wedding, it can be easy for couples to overlook their own honeymoons. But in the middle of all those seating arrangements and reception hall negotiations, couples also need to plan and look forward to the rest and relaxation that awaits, which will no doubt be a well-deserved escape once the wedding has come and gone.
Couples can take the fol-lowing advice to ensure their getaway goes off without a hitch.
Many couples could enjoy a honeymoon to Siberia in the dead of winter after their big day has passed. After all the stress of planning and paying for the wedding, couples will likely just enjoy the time away. Take this into consideration when planning a honeymoon. If a dream trip isn’t in the bud-get after all the wedding bills have come due, don’t fret. A less expensive getaway is still a getaway, and couples will enjoy their well-deserved break no matter where it is they’re putting their feet up.
That dream honeymoon might be affordable after all if couples can wait till it’s not the height of tourist season. Most weddings occur during the summer months, when tourist season is in full swing.Couples who can put off their hon-eymoon until the off-season
will no doubt find their dream honeymoon is much more affordable.
It’s never too early to start planning the honeymoon. The earlier couples begin to research possible destinations, the better feel they will have for what they can and can’t afford. Research can be done well in advance to give couples an idea of what their dream trip will cost. But don’t book any flights or make any reser-vations too far in advance. The best deals are often available a few months before the trip.
Hotels love hosting newly-weds, and many will upgrade rooms for recently married guests. Couples should not be too brash about it, as fully booked hotels won’t be able to upgrade their guests. But let the hotel know you’re on your honeymoon when checking in, and they might just upgrade your room and comp you a bottle of champagne as a gift.
When asked about a dream honeymoon, couples will often bring up Hawaii or even Paris. While those are beauti-ful places to spend a honey-moon, they’re also expensive. Fortunately, there are a bevy of locales, be it domestic or international, that aren’t nearly as pricey as the most popular honeymoon destinations but still make wonderful options for a honeymoon getaway couples won’t soon forget.

Among the many decisions newly-weds make, deciding how to combine incomes and share financial decisions is at the forefront. Even in single-income households, individual assets and debts are typically merged, requiring couples to work together to determine their fi-nancial future. Here are some strategies for a successful money merger.
Along with trust and honesty, open communication about finances is important in building a strong mar-riage. Without these components, it’s difficult to work together as a team toward common financial goals. Each person needs to be aware of any assets or outstanding debts belonging to their spouse. It’s okay for couples to have separate accounts so long as there are no secret accounts. Having joint check-ing, savings and credit card accounts creates transparency and requires couples to communicate clearly and
work together. Even if only one partner generally signs the checks and balances the accounts, ideally both partners should have a clear sense of the finan-cial picture.
Create a budget you can stick to that realistically reflects future spending. Set a time to sit down together every month when it’s time to pay bills to talk about current and future spending so you’re on the same page. Agree on discretionary spending and saving after bills and expenses have been paid. The easiest way to keep money from under-mining your marriage is to make a plan together, agreeing on where the funds will come from and how they will be spent each month.
More often than not, couples merging their finances have different incomes and amounts of accumulated debt. Couples need to agree on how much each person should contribute to
the household and how past debts are to be paid off. There are a number of basic ways to divide the financial pie. If a couple has similar incomes and debts, a 50/50 split is a simple solution. A couple can decide to each contribute a set percentage of their incomes towards expenses and purchases.
Previous debts can be absorbed to become a shared expense or remain the responsibility of the spouse who accu-mulated them. Discretionary spending towards the household or things like va-cations can be treated the same as other household expenses while personal purchases might be considered the responsibility of the individual.
There are countless ways to deter-mine how finances are shared, but the important thing is that you and your partner are clear about each others’ expectations when it comes to spending and saving.
