STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 20 / REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPON ABILIDAD PARA LA SEMANA DEL 20 DE MARZOToday, Palm Sunday, is the sixth and last Sunday of Lent and marks the beginning of Holy Week for us. Officially the Church calls this day Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion. There is a dichotomy in this name that we must acknowledge for it reflects, in many ways, who we are and how we sometimes act.
On the one hand is Palm Sunday, a time of celebration that marks Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. It is a time of joy and celebration and we all festively raise our palms in salute to our King. However, as the readings continue, the mood turns somber with the reading of the Passion of the Lord.
As we stand for this Gospel, and play a part, we call out, “Crucify him! Crucify him!” What a change, beginning with Hosanna! and ending with condemnation. Although we may be intellectually aware that we are playing the part of the people of Jesus’ time, we really must reflect on whether this also represents how we can be today.
Do we glorify Christ at one moment, but then condemn Him through our own actions, our own inability to fulfill His expectations for us? Of course we do. As Lent culminates and Easter comes upon us, it is time for us to admit our sins and to vow as good stewards to live out the love to which the Lord has called us. Jesus made His sacrifice for us with determination to save us. Should we not show the same fortitude in converting our lives?

The Easter Vigil, the highest and most important Mass of the year, is next Saturday night. It culminates the end of Holy Week. Yes, it is longer, but it’s broken into parts. We listen to multiple readings that tell us about salvation history that ends with us discovering Jesus has risen from the dead. From here the Holy Spirit is asked to open the waters of the baptismal font and I baptize the adults and children older than seven who have been preparing all year. They enter into the tomb with Jesus and come out a new child of God. After the baptisms all of us renew our own baptismal promises and are blessed with the new Holy Water. We then call down the Holy Spirit again and confirm these newly baptized and other adults who have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. We are now ready to celebrate the Eucharist for the first time in 3 days in the church. This is a glorious celebration!Thursday Night Confessions: March 31, April 7 & 14God bless you all!Fr. Padre Jim

HOLY YEAR OF MERCY: MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER/ AÑO SANTO DE LA MISERI-CORDIA: MISERICORDIOSOS COMO EL PADREPope Francis has asked us to be more merciful and to incorporate the Corporal and Spiritual Acts of Mercy into our daily lives. During the year we will highlight the different acts and give concrete ideas on how to live them. Please visit www.usccb.org for more ideas.
SPIRITUAL ACT OF MERCY #3: ADMONISHING THE SINNERDo not judge, but be supportive in helping others find their way and correct their mistakes. Together we can learn to walk more closely with Christ.
◆ In humility we must strive to create a culture that does not accept sin, while realizing that we all fall at times
◆ Don’t judge, but guide others towards the path of salvation (see Mt 7:1-2)
◆ When you correct someone, don’t be arrogant. We are all in need of God’s loving correction.
◆ We should journey together to a deeper understanding of our shared faith
◆ “Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter from your brother’s eye” (Mt 7:5)
