Dear Friends,Meet Susan Kocanda, our
Belmont Village Ambassador.Susan has worked with us fornearly two years. Susan brings herbeautiful smile and cheerfulnessto our residents when they are inthe hospital or rehab facilitygetting stronger.
Susan is a renaissance womanwith a terrific sense of humor. Sheis the youngest of four siblings, born in Quincy, Ill. She attendedWestern Illinois Universitymajoring in English Education.Susan went with her friendConnie to a fraternity party. Susandescribes Connie as “gorgeous,”and all the young men flocked toConnie as they arrived. BernieKocanda was observing, sippingscotch out of a china cup, andthought it wasn’t nice that Susanwas left out. Smart guy. Hemarried her! Bernie and Susanhad two children, Emily who isstudying to become a physicaltherapist, and Matthew who is afinancial analyst for GoldmanSachs. (Matthew is an honorarymember of the Belmont Team andhas assisted us with numerousprojects.)
Susan has worked as a teacher, and then became involved withpublic relations and marketing. She also worked for AnheuserBusch and was part of the team
that would accompany HarryCarey to restaurants and wateringholes for events. She has addedBodyguard for Harry Carey toher resume!
One of Susan’s fondestmemories is when her husbandbought a 31-foot RV, instead of asports car, as he approached“middle age.” The family of fourhad a lot of laughs as they set outto visit 10 states on a road trip, including Texas, Colorado, andArizona. They now can boast theysaw the largest Road Runner.
The Kocanda family lived inTexas eight years when Bernie washead of the Shared Service Centerfor Kraft. They moved back toIllinois in 2002. Sadly, Berniepassed away in 2003. Whentalking with Susan, we were bothlaughing with so many wonderfulstories and memories to shareabout Bernie and the kids.
