On Jan. 6th we will begin a new study by Adam Hamilton, Simon Peter: Flawed But Faith-
ful Disciple. This is a six-week study accompanied by amazing on-site DVD segments. It
reminds us that God takes us as we are and enables us to use the talents He has given us.
Cokesbury is currently offering pre-publication sale prices and a free mini-book with illu-
strations and commentary. Be sure to order the regular guide book, since there are sever-
al versions.
We meet at 9:00 a.m. in room six just to the left of the sanctuary and we are very flexible.
If you need to arrive late or leave early, no problem. If you just wish to come to and listen, that’s fine.
There are no requirements. Questions or further information, please contact Nancy Milne at 952-226-3547
or jnmilne@hot mail.com.
ADULT
As we start out 2019, the ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD would like to express our appreciation for all the
support you have given to Grace UMC over the last year. We are incredibly thankful for
the pledges and financial gifts we have received for the Re-Roofing Campaign, which to-
tal 60% of the $100,000 needed to replace the roof over the Fellowship Hall wing and
make a few other roofing repairs. We continue to ask for your support as we begin
2019 with a budget deficit of $20,000, which has been reduced thanks to additional
pledges com-ing in since the budget was passed in November. If you have any questions
regarding finances please contact a member of the finance committee: Carol Greibrok,
Doris Marek, Cara Kennedy, John Brand, James Milne or Pastor Jen.
Blessings, Carol 3

Pastor Jen will be in Florida for the Lewis Fellows Leadership Development Program Monday
January 21st - Thursday January 24th. Rev. Robert Braudt will be on-call for pastoral care
emergencies while she is away. You can reach him at: 952-890-2515 (office), 612-839-2111
(cell), or [email protected].
In March, Grace will be celebrating 60 years of ministry! While the actual date of our 60th ‘birthday’
is near the end of the month, we’ll be celebrating on Sunday March 3rd. It will be a Communion
Sunday, Transfiguration Sunday (which is also the last Sunday before Lent) and the first Sunday
following the special session of General Conference (GC), which will be held February 23-26, 2019.
We have intentionally moved up Grace’s celebration of 60 years in ministry to the Sunday following
the special session of General Conference as a way of embodying and living into the understanding
that our ministry continues no matter what is decided at GC.
As a way to help us prepare for and better understand what will be taking place at General
Conference in February, I hope you will join me for a four-week small group study called Living Faithfully: Human Sexuality and The United Methodist Church. This study was specifically created
with United Methodist Pastors and Churches in mind to help facilitate “discussions about these
emotionally charged and highly divisive issues in a way that encourages openness, humility, a spirit of
grace, and above all, love for fellow group members. Although diverse viewpoints provide multiple
lenses through which to consider different perspectives, the study is based on Scripture from start
to finish” (from cokesbury.com's product description). We’ll meet on Sundays from 9:00-9:45am in
the last room of the Sunday school wing January 20, 27 & February 17, 24. Please let Pastor Jen
know if you would like the book as soon as possible.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Jen
We have an abundance of talent at Grace UMC (as was beautifully shown and shared at the Children’s
Christmas Pageant and the Choir Cantata in December). We’re looking to engage more individuals, of all
ages, in worship as ushers, greeters, acolytes, liturgists, Communion servers, musicians and sound
techs. If you or your child(ren) would like to serve in a worship role, please contact the office or Pas-
tor Jen.
Kids should have received a chart showing all Sundays from Jan to May, with all the worship helper roles listed. Please note that indicating availability does not necessarily mean you will be signed up for that date/role. **Confirmation youth have agreed and committed to serving 5 times from January to May!**

SLOW STEADY PROGRESS CONTINUES ON OUR LAND SALE
Met Council: Our Developer and the City of Burnsville have submitted our application for Land Use
and Comprehensive Plan changes. Metropolitan Council approved our application!!! On Tuesday,
December 18, 2018, Burnsville City Council formally approved this resolution to change the zoning of our prop-
erty from Residential to Mixed Use. Market Study: Northland has initiated a market study. Initial report confirms a market for active living
adult/independent active apartments in Burnsville. More research on this topic is likely.
Funding Resources: Northland has initiated discussions with their equity sources. Feedback and inter-
est has been somewhat positive.
DNR Approval: Discussions are underway. Developer's equity partner may have some influence and
interest in which sewer route is approved. It is likely that consideration will be given to the most
direct/least costly routes versus a longer route with cost reduction of a Park Dedication Fee by the City
for Parkland.
Further Floor Plan development will occur this month.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: If Burnsville Schools close, all children’s activities are canceled.

FRIENDS, FELLOWSHIP & FOOD: It's that bone chilling time of year,
when we need to quit hibernating and enjoy a warm meal with friends. Come join us
for lunch at Giuseppe's for a delizioso, italian meal. We will meet at noon on
Saturday, January 26th. It is located at 14600 10th Avenue South off County
Road 42 and just west of County Road 11 (next to the Red Lion Liquor Store). If
you plan to attend, please let Mary Barthel know by Sunday, January 20th. You

Celebrating Everyday Grace
We love to see you on Sunday mornings, but we hope that what you experi-
ence at Grace goes out with you into your everyday life as well. How has
Grace impacted you? What have been your favorite memories? As we gear
up to celebrate 60 years of Grace’s history and look forward to 60+ years
of ministry to come, we want to share your stories! Will you take a few
minutes and share your top five memories of Grace UMC? Include dates,
names, pictures - whatever you’ve got. Send your memories and pictures via
email to [email protected] or there is a form on the counter in
the Narthex (near the coffee machine) for you to complete. We’ll be high-
lighting a number of memories as we get closer to the 60th celebration, set
for March 3rd, 2019.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEEDED to help keep our sidewalks clear once snow
eventually descends upon us. Remember, if you need to shovel your walk at
home, chances are the church needs clearing too—so put this on your “to do”
list and help keep our sidewalks safe. Shovels are at the church, but you
might like your own better. For heavy, serious snow we have a snow blower and
you can contact Gordy Peters for information at 952-435-6189.

How to Make a Homemade Bird Feeder: You will need a pine cone, some peanut butter and
bird seed. Coat your pine cone with the peanut butter and then roll it in the bird seed. Hang
the cone from a nearby tree branch and see what kind of birds it attracts.
There was no December Dinner Group but prepare for the Svenska Mid-
dag (Swedish dinner) of traditional yellow pea soup and pancakes. Dale
and Jean Osborn, 16390 Java Lane, Lakeville, will host at 6:00 pm on
Saturday, January 19th. Guests may bring either Swedish or American
side dishes. Grace Dinner Group meets in homes usually on the 2nd or
3rd Saturday of the month. Hosts provide the entrée with guests bring-
ing complementary dishes. Both couples and singles are welcome. For
questions or reservations, please contact [email protected] or
call 952-898-3708. Reservations requested by Sunday, Jan. 13th.
