CALENDAR TERM 4 PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
WELLBEING WEEK: THEME - ENVIRONMENT This week, normal homework will be replaced by the Wellbeing Week
Homework grid. Please contact your child’s class teacher if you do not
receive a copy the homework grid. This is an opportunity for children and
their parents to undertake a range of wellbeing activities together at
home. I hope you all enjoy the week talking to each other, sharing ideas
and doing things together. Next Monday 10 December we will hold a mufti
day. Please see below for more information.
PREFECT SPEECH DAY – THURSDAY 6 DECEMBER AT 9.30AM This Thursday, our Prefects will present their speeches for leadership
positions for next year. At the conclusion of the speeches, the staff and K-
5 students will vote for three girls and three boy prefects. The Year 5 and
staff will then elect the School Captains from the prefects. The prefects
and school captains will be announced at our Presentation Day on 12
December.
SRC MUFTI DAY – NO MESS MONDAY ON MONDAY 10 DECEMBER
On Monday 10 December, the Student Representative Council will be
hosting a mufti day for all students.
The motivation for this day is to bring a lunch and recess that is waste free.
As you may have noticed, there are new rubbish bins in the school, aiming
to encourage recycling and raising awareness of the environment. The SRC
wish to support Year 5 in their endeavour to become more
environmentally aware. In order to wear mufti, please try to be waste
free for one day, some ways to do so are suggested below:

Come and see our river of fish. These were made by the grandparents and children earlier this year.
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT
Your Statement of Account is now overdue. Parents are encouraged to pay all overdue fees before the end of Term 4. To pay your
child’s ‘Statement of Account’, it is helpful to the school if Parents and Carers use the Parent Online Payment (POP) system. This
is to reduce the amount of cash being handled at school by students and staff. To pay by POP, please go to the Pagewood Public
School website at http://www.pagewood-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and select ‘Make a payment’. Parents and Carers are welcome to
pay for two or more children in one payment. If you wish to pay by cash, please send cash payments to your child’s teacher on
Tuesdays. If you have not received, or misplaced, your Statement of Account for Term 4 please email the school at pagewood-
[email protected] or call us on 9316 9313 for a copy.

LOLLIES, CANDY CANES and CHOCOLATE
Please do not allow children to bring or hand out candy canes, lollies or chocolate at school. These foods have sugar, food
colouring and can also lead to allergic reactions. This is a home and holiday activity for children to do with their parents. If you
would like more information on the department’s policy, please go to:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/policy-library/policies/nutrition-in-schools-policy
DRUM CIRCLE INCURSION - TUESDAY 18 DECEMBER The drum circle will be held at school in the last Tuesday of Term 4. It is a specialist group who will be working with two classes at a time using different drums and developing different drum rhythm and beats. Research has shown this is good for student learning and wellbeing. It should be good fun. While we would like all students to attend, it is not compulsory for students to attend. DEMOUNTABLE CLASSROOM – PROPOSAL In 2019, Pagewood PS will have a 13 class. This will require a demountable classroom to be placed in the school grounds over the
Summer holidays. The proposal is to place this classroom where the flag pole and commemorative plaques currently stand. It is
proposed that the flag pole and commemorative plaques will be relocated to the front entrance of the school (near the office).
Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any comments to make on this proposal. This proposal was
raised at the P&C meeting on Tuesday 6 November and parent input was noted. The Grevillea trees and garden beds will be
relocated if possible or re-planted.
CLASSES IN 2019
To assist the staff in the process of forming classes, please let me know of any significant social or legal issue regarding your child.
Even if you have previously told me or another staff member of an issue, please contact me by email (pagewood-
[email protected]) as I may not be aware of the issue. Please mark all correspondence of this nature with ‘Attention Mr
Tan – confidential’ in the subject line.
