2013hasbeenawhirlwindyearforPEECandoursupporters.Whentheyearbegan,thenewnaturecenterwaslittlemorethanalineiteminthecounty’sbudget.Astheyeardrewtoaclose,PEECstaffandboardmemberswereattendingweeklymeetingstotalkabouteverythingfromexhibitstoelectricaloutlets!Whoknewthatsomanyimportantdecisionswouldrestonelectricaloutlets?
Allthis,however,hasbeenjustabackgroundhumthatyoumightnothavenoticed.Whatyousawin2013waskidslearningtoholdandreleasebirdsinBandelier,adultsidentifyingnewwildflowers,newhikerslearningabouttheCounty’smanyeasilyaccessibletrails,toddlerscookingupastorminthemudkitchen,kidswadingintheJemezwaterstodoscientificmonitoring,andpeopleofallagesbeingtransportedunderground(toLechuguillaCave),outofthecountry(tolearnaboutexoticwildlife),andtothestarsandplanets(throughthelensofatelescope).YousawPEECfulfillingitsmissionofenrichingpeople’slivesbystrengtheningtheirconnectionstonature.
Wecouldn’thavedoneanyofthiswithoutyou.Ourboardgaveusguidance,advice,andmanytirelesshoursofvolunteerservice.Ourstaffworkedtogetherasatrueteam.Ourvolunteersdideverything:shelvebooks,mountplants,garden,water,helpwithlessons,leadhikes,givetalks,andgenerallyfillinhoweverneeded.OurcommunitypartnersworkedwithustobringmorevaluetoeveryoneinLosAlamos,andoursupportersprovidedthefundsthatmadeeverythingelsepossible.YouhaveallenrichedPEECsomuch.
