Message from the Senior Leadership Team
This year has been a challenging year for the oil and gas industry and as a Shell School, we have experienced several challenges, as a result. It is important that during these challenging times, we reflect on our school’s accomplishments, including the roles we play in the community. Not only do we feel Panaga School is a successful place of learning, this view has been repeatedly con-firmed by external educational auditors. A detailed search of what constitutes an excellent school will highlight several factors; one of the key areas is enhancing community support and engagement. It is essential that parents support the educational process and their children's learning. We must thank our many parents who are so supportive and give their time freely. Such generosity and inspiration was clearly demonstrated during our recent Science Fair, where we were inundated by offers of help from parents willing to take on additional responsibilities to provide positive learning experiences for all. As parents, we are role models. Being involved makes an im-pact on our children as they are given the opportunity to observe us as positive role models; which they will hopefully replicate in the future. A progressive school always requires skilled teachers and support staff who have a clear understanding of the learning process. Learning is a highly complex subject matter. Motivating and engaging children by providing a challenging and stimulating learning environment is some-thing we strive to achieve daily at school. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated and talented teachers and Learning Support Assis-tants (LSAs) who take their time to facilitate children’s learning to en-sure all students are supported when times become a little challenging for them too. This support and dedication is exemplified on residential trips, where all teachers work very long days but still wake up each morning with enthusiasm to provide another day of exciting experienc-es that will further develop the children’s learning. I am in a privileged position to observe firsthand the commitment that is shown each day at Panaga School and how all of our staff – teachers, LSAs, admin and support staff – play important roles in enhancing the ‘Panaga experi-ence’. Developing an international mindset in our students is another im-portant feature of our school. International schools often have an inter-
esting mixture of cultures. Observing all of our students playing, work-ing and resolving issues together is one of the most pleasurable fea-tures of my role. This blend of cultures is demonstrated on International Day, where our whole community comes together to provide an out-standing spectacle of diverse learning. It was another fascinating and thought-provoking day this year! The vibrant costumes and displays, the alluring smell of freshly cooked food and the entertaining perfor-mances all brought a wholesome mix to the day. Clearly, so many other factors make schools successful, the list is end-less! But supportive parents, committed staff and a student body that is ‘internationally minded’ are three of the key areas! Sadly at this time of year, we say goodbye to several members of our community. We anticipate that the pages of this Yearbook will provide a lasting memory of your time in Brunei. Many thanks to all teachers for colourfully and creatively producing your Yearbook pages and to Damian Brady for his commitment to this publication. It is a challenging but rewarding project we proudly com-plete each year. We look forward to another year of great learning in 2016-17! Tim Robinson, Principal

All year in 4R, we have been facing several difficult challenges. Many activities we participate in at school help us discover the things we really love to do. Who knows, our experiences at school may lead to our dream jobs?
Could we become actors and become great communicators?
We have had fun together and communicated well.
We exercised our bodies and our brains. We have worked together. Could we be dentists?
Could we become scientists?
We have discovered new things.
Could we become chocolate tasters?
Could we be authors?

Panaga Football Tournament Panaga’s annual fes val of football a racted over 90 teams and 700 children at the end of February. Some great compe on and lots of enjoyment was on show as each team strived for success. Well done to all the players and vol-unteers involved in making the day a success.
Cross Country
Panaga School hosted the first inter-school Cross Country meet on a sunny morning in early January. Alongside Panaga School, teams from JIS, ISB KB and Hornbill School ensured that over 120 students competed. This event transpired a er a keen interest was shown by many of the stu-dents who a end the Friday morning Running Club. Every compe tor showed tremendous resilience enduring both the heat and varying terrain
of grass, sand and concrete. Panaga School performed excep onally well, collec ng 13 of the 24 medals on offer and winning 4 of the 8 races. Freek Zevenbergen won the P8 boys race; Hannah Smith won the P8 girls race; George Stephenson won the P7 boys race and Shaun Zheng won
the P6 boys race. Well done to all of the students that took part and to the staff and parents who helped organise the event.

Activities
Our photographs show our learning under the theme of ‘Building a Village’. We researched some of the most famous
landmarks in the world and created our very own ‘Se lements Museum’ in the classroom! Although, our high-light had to be crea ng Roman roads out of chocolate to help
us understand the structure of se lements! l
In Maths, we focused upon reading large numbers and
calcula ng percentages, decimals and frac ons. This helped us to compare and contrast the popula on of many different countries!
Some of the games we played were really tricky, as we had to use a variety of
different skills to solve prob-lems, but we worked to-
gether to help each other!

P8 Trip
P8 students had an amazing week in Singapore learning about the history of this mul cultural and dynamic city, bringing our IPC unit, Migra on, to life. A Shake-speare play in the park a er a drama workshop gave us the chance to show off our English skills and solving a crime at the Science Centre tested our inves ga on techniques. Throughout our trip, we all used our Personal Goals to help us learn more about the world around us and ourselves as people.
P8 Concert
A play written about a 15th century English king fighting against the French became a futuristic interplanetary battle between humans and evil dolphins with more than just a passing reference to Star Wars.
Sometimes an idea just evolves. We learnt that the French prince was called the 'Dauphin' and that meant 'dolphin' in English. (Thanks Maxine and Ella!) Lots of P8s love Star Wars movies. (Kyle and Zach to name just two!) Why not set the story in the future where the
swords of Agincourt become the light sabres of a space fight? We wanted to show our understanding of the original story and present our interpretation of the characters in our 21st century English. Lots of learning from IPC and Science helped as well.

School Choirs
Panaga School Choirs
This year, the Panaga School Choirs
have been extremely busy filling Panaga and beyond with beautiful
music!
We have had over 50 singers from across the school!
In May, Rampayoh P3 Choir, Teraja Choir and Panaga Adult Choir joined forces and performed alongside St
John’s Choir during a fantastic World Music Celebration held at St
John’s School.
For some of our singers, it was the first time standing up on stage and performing and even though it was a bit daunting, everyone showed great
confidence.
The money raised through ticket sales helped St John’s to buy much needed resources for the school.
Jazz Week
Panaga School enjoyed Jazz Week in April with many opportunities to listen to
Jazz planned for lunchtimes and assemblies.
Musicians from school and our community volunteered to demonstrate their Jazz skills in two special assemblies during
Jazz Week. Erwin played Jazz on his Alto
Saxophone.
Miss Kath and Miss Christine played The
Entertainer.
Severine, Saule and Diewertje formed a trio to perform Autumn Leaves.
Laura and Alide performed as a duet, playing No Dice.
Richard from P6 wowed his audience with his tremendous
piano playing!
