Fr Gerard Woo Ling Assistant Priest
Dear Friends,
Today is the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time and the day that
the Australian Bishops have invited us to celebrate Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Sunday. Today we acknowledge that God
has been walking with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples, making his presence known through a continuous living
culture over many thousands of years. We pray in thanksgiving for these ancient peoples who have enriched and sustained our
continent over all that time. In particular we praise God for the
people who nurtured the land here in our parish that we call
home. A copy of the Australian Catholic Bishops Pastoral Letter is
available at the back of the church.
As my installation is coming up in a few weeks I provide more
important information on page 3.
I invite anyone who is interested in joining the choir for my
installation as Parish Priest to contact Stephanie
([email protected]). I am delighted that so many people have
expressed positive and encouraging comments regarding the
installation and committed to working together going into the future. I
acknowledge that change is always difficult and involves a level of grief and pain in letting go.

To be a Catholic Community of love, truth and beauty
Liturgy of the Word First Reading Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24
Death was not God’s doing, he takes no pleasure in
the extinction of the living. To be – for this he created
all; the world’s created things have health in them, in
them no fatal poison can be found, and Hades holds
no power on earth; for virtue is undying. Yet God did make man imperishable, he made him in the image of
his own nature; it was the devil’s envy that brought
death into the world, as those who are his partners
will discover.
Responsorial Psalm Ps 29:2. 4-6. 11-13. R. v.2
(R.) I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.
1. I will praise you, Lord, you have rescued me And have not let my enemies rejoice over me. O Lord,
you have raised my soul from the dead, restored
me to life from those who sink into the grave. (R.)
2. Sing psalms to the Lord, you who love him, give
thanks to his holy name. His anger lasts but a
moment: his favour through life. At night there
are tears, but joy comes with dawn. (R.)
3. The Lord listened and had pity. The Lord came
to my help. For me you have changed my
mourning into dancing, O Lord my God, I will
thank you for ever. (R.)
Second Reading 2 Cor 8:7. 9. 13-15
You always have the most of everything – of faith, of
eloquence, of understanding, of keenness for any
cause, and the biggest share of our affection – so we expect you to put the most into this work of mercy too.
Remember how generous the Lord Jesus was: he was
rich, but he became poor for your sake, to make you
rich out of his poverty. This does not mean that to give
relief to others you ought to make things difficult for
yourselves: it is a question of balancing what happens to be your surplus now against their present need,
and one day they may have something to spare that
will supply your own need. That is how we strike a
balance: as scripture says: The man who gathered
much had none too much, the man who gathered little did not go short.
Gospel Acclamation 2 Tm 1:10 Alleluia, alleluia!
Our Saviour Jesus Christ has done away with death
and brought us life through his gospel. Alleluia!
Gospel Mk 5:21-43 | Mk 5:21 1-24. 35-43 21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the
other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around
him while he was by the lake.22 Then one of the
synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly
with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and
put your hands on her so that she will be healed and
live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 35 While he was still speaking, there came from the
ruler's house some who said, “Your daughter is dead.
Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 But
overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” 37 And he
allowed no one to follow him except Peter and James
and John the brother of James. 38 They came to the
house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus saw a
commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. 39 And
when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not
dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. But
he put them all outside and took the child's father and
mother and those who were with him and went in
where the child was. 41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,”which means, “Little girl, I say to
you, arise.” 42 And immediately the girl got up and
began walking (for she was twelve years of age), and
they were immediate ly overcome with
amazement. 43 And he strictly charged them that no
one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat. The psalm responses are from the English Translation of the Lectionary for the
