` eSt. Peter Roman Catholic Church Mission Statement

Our mission is to proclaim the Kingdom of God by living

the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Word, Sacrament, and

Service as taught by the Roman Catholic Church. St. Peter

Parish is a community of dedicated Catholics centered on

the Eucharist, which is the source and the summit of all that

we do and hope to become. Approved August 19, 2014

PARISH SACRAMENTS

SACRAMENT OF THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST

As a parish, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is central to who we are and what we do.

Regular Mass Times are listed on the front of the

bulletin. Please contact the office for special Mass times during Lent and Holy Days of Obligation. To

receive formation for First Holy Communion,

contact the Parish Office, 896-9408.

SACRAMENT OF CONFESSION Essential to the Christian Life, the Sacrament of Confession is where we come into

contact with Christ who wishes to heal and bless us.

Regular Confession is an integral part of practicing

our Faith and experiencing the peace and joy of a

personal relationship with Jesus. 30 minutes before

every Mass, the Sacrament of Confession is offered. If you need to receive the Sacrament of Confession

for the first time, contact the Parish Office, 896-

9408.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Through the waters of Baptism, the new Christian enters the Church and is given Eternal

Life. To have your infant baptized, please contact

the Parish Office at least 2-4 months prior to the baby’s due date so that there is enough time to

complete preparation for the Sacrament.

Parents should be registered, participating members of the Parish Family.

Proposed Sponsors (Godparents) should be

attending Mass regularly. Both parents and sponsors receive a Baptismal Packet which must be

completed and received before attendance at a

Baptismal instruction class is scheduled. A Baptismal date is determined after all Church

requirements are satisfied.

If you are a parent or an adult seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the Parish

Office, 896-9408.

SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE In the beginning, God created mankind

as one, male and female. Christ elevated this union to the level of a Sacrament, an image of His own love

for His Bride, The Church. Our Parish Family is

made up of many beautiful marriages who enrich the Church and the world. Couples discerning the

vocation of Holy Matrimony should contact the

Parish Office to begin the journey of preparing for their new life together no later than 6-9 months prior

to the desired wedding date.

SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK AND FUNERAL/BURIAL

ARRANGEMENTS The Church and her Sacraments

accompany us at every moment of our life. When

we are very sick or nearing the end of this life, we receive the healing of Christ through Anointing of

the Sick. Please contact the Parish Office, 896-9408,

to make an appointment. Also, contact the church office before

you contact anyone else in making funeral

arrangements. We are here to guide you through that most difficult time.

FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR DECEMBER WORSHIP: May we spiritually grow this Season of Advent by praying and reflecting on the Sacred Scriptures daily. FAITH FORMATION: May the Season of Advent be for parents (and their children) a time of anticipation and spiritual preparation of the heart and mind for the celebration of Jesus Christ's coming on Christmas Day. EVANGELIZATION: That others will be able to experience Jesus in us; may we cleanse our hearts from sin in Confession so Christ may find no obstacle to dwelling within us. SOCIAL JUSTICE: As we reflect on our blessings this Advent, may they be cause for praise and gratitude to God and lead us to act upon the needs of the poor, refugee, abandoned, imprisoned and disregarded. 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.' BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: That we will begin this New Liturgical year offering our time, talent and treasure to God here at St. Peter, where we are called to be build His Kingdom.

LIGHTING THE ADVENT WREATH IN YOUR HOME

FOURTH SUNDAY & WEEK OF ADVENT Pour forth Thy power, O Lord, and Come. Assist us by that Mighty Power, so that by Thy grace and Merciful Kindness we may swiftly receive the salvation that our sins impede for Thy live and reign with God the Father, in the Unity of the Holy Spirit, ever One God, world without end. THE HOLY SEASON OF ADVENT

O Lord, we beseech Thee, visit our minds and cleanse our thoughts; that at the coming of

Our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, He may find in us a place prepared for Him.

AN ADVENT PRAYER

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold.

In that hour, O my God, hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His blessed Mother. Amen

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” St. Faustina: "Christmas Day. Midnight Mass. During Holy Mass, I again saw the little Infant Jesus, extremely beautiful, joyfully stretching out His little arms to me. After Holy Communion, I heard the words: 'I am always in your heart; not only when you receive Me in Holy Communion, but always.' I spent these holydays in great joy. (Diary 575)

MERRY CHRISTMAS

The humble, simple souls, who are little enough to see the bigness of God in the littleness of a Babe, are therefore the

only ones who will ever understand the reason of His visitation. He came to this poor earth of ours to carry on an

exchange; to say to us, as only the Good God could say: 'you give me your humanity, and I will give you my Divinity;

you give me your time, and I will give you My eternity; you give me your broken heart, and I will give you Love;

you give me your nothingness, and I will give you My all.

Fr. Ledoux and Staff, wish all of you a very

blessed and Holy Christmas Season and the love

and peace of the Christ Child in the New Year!

THE CHRISTMAS SEASON

Christmas is more than a day - it is a season lasting until the Feast of Jesus’ Baptism, January 8th.

NATIVITY EPIPHANY BAPTISM December 25th January 7th January 8th

Use these days to continue to show your joy of Jesus’ Birth by continued prayer, celebrations and visits to the lonely and ill.

BLESSING FOR THE CHRISTMAS CRIB

A Blessing Prayer for When Baby Jesus Is Placed in the Manger…

O God of every nation: From the very beginning of creation You have made manifest Your love: When our need for a Savior was great, You sent Your Son to be born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives He brings joy and peace, justice, mercy and love. Lord, bless all who

look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus, and raise up our thought to Him, who is our Emmanuel and Savior of all, Who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

CHRIST CANDLE OF HOPE PRAYER Prayer for the Twelve Days of Christmas

God, our loving Father, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, into this world to counter all the forces of evil: sin, suffering and death, and to overcome evil with the force of good; hatred with the power of love, Your great love for us in Jesus.

Help us never to curse the darkness, but to join with You in bringing Your light into this world, the light that is Your Son, born of the Virgin Mary, in Bethlehem. Help us to be instruments of Your light and love by doing one special act of kindness or by being Your special instrument of reconciliation this New Year.

May the Christ Candle we light symbolize our desire to bring light into a world of darkness and hope into a world of despair. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS

From 1558 to 1829, English Catholics were not permitted to practice their faith openly. During this time, The Twelve Days of Christmas was written in England as a catechism song for young Catholics. There was a surface meaning and a hidden meaning known only to Catholics, in which each element was a symbol for a religious reality, helping the children to remember:

• A partridge in a pear tree: Jesus

• Two turtle doves: Old and New Testaments

• Three French hens: Faith, Hope, and Charity

• Four calling birds: Four Gospels

• Five golden rings: First Five books of the Old Testament

• Six geese a laying: Six days of Creation

• Seven swans a swimming: Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit

• Eight maids a milking: Eight Beatitudes

• Nine ladies dancing: Nine fruits of the Holy Spirit

• Ten lords a leaping: Ten Commandments

• Eleven pipers piping: Eleven faithful Disciples

• Twelve drummers drumming: Twelve points in the Apostles' Creed

• -Joseph Walker, S.J.

BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER

HOFFMAN PIPE ORGAN

As Fr. Ledoux indicated several weeks ago, the needed repairs to our pipe organ will cost an estimated $63,000. This is significantly less than the cost of a new and comparable pipe organ. You are asked to prayerfully consider making a donation specifically to this endeavor, in order to offset pipe organ repair costs. It is important to note that the pipe organ repair project was not previously anticipated. As such, it is not among the various projects that comprise our parish’s capital campaign. Donations to the pipe organ repair can be made by simply contacting Cindy Courville at the parish office or speaking directly to Fr. Ledoux about a donation.

Excerpt from a letter by Keith D’Anna, Director of Music, Choir Master and Organist at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Lafayette…

The Hofmann Pipe Organ at St. Peter is truly a gem of Acadiana and part of the rich heritage and legacy of premiere pipe organ builder Otto Hofmann. You have at St. Peter one of three Hofmann organs in this area (Our Lady of Fatima in Lafayette, St. Mary Magdalen in Abbeville, and your beautiful church of St. Peter in Carencro).

The Hofmann Pipe Organ at St. Peter will serve the faith community in Carencro for another 50 to 70 years if the necessary repairs are carried out. It’s rebuilding and renovation would be a testament of the community’s love for the liturgy and worship of Our Lord.

UPDATING BISHOPS’ & PRIESTS’ COATS OF ARMS

And I will give you shepherds according to My Heart which shall feed you with knowledge & understanding. ~Jeremiah 3:15

The legacy of the Coats of Arms here at St. Peter is a true treasure and extremely unique as these artistic pew ends have not been found to exist in any other churches in Louisiana or anywhere in the southern United States on such a large scale. Honoring our previous and current bishops and pastors is unique at St. Peter. To show our love and appreciation for our previous and current bishops and pastors, pew Coat-of-Arms have been carved to add to the existing ones in the church. Coat of Arms for Bishop Flynn, Bishop O’Donnell, Bishop Jarrell, Fr. Downs and Fr. Melancon have been carved and displayed here in the parish hall. The last two remaining are Bishop Deshotel and Fr. Ledoux. Please take a moment to see these on the Hymnal table as you are entering or exiting the hall before or after Mass. Your generosity in giving an additional $5 to $10 in the offertory collection is appreciated.

Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. He has anointed Me . . . to let the oppressed go free. ~Lk 4:18

REFLECTION: “Truly He taught us to love one another. His law is love, and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,

and in His name all oppression shall cease” (O Holy Night). In the name of the newborn Christ, the oppression of our unborn children will cease.

PRAYER: Lord, may the joy of Your birth give us the strength to be more active than ever in the pro-life cause for You are Lord forever and ever.

Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares

these gifts in love of God and neighbor.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT In today’s Gospel reading we hear proclaimed the story of the Annunciation, when the angel of the Lord announced to Mary that she would give birth to Christ through the intercession of the Holy Spirit. Mary allowed God’s messenger to speak to her. She was attentive, not afraid to enter into a dialogue, then unconditionally obedient. Mary’s acceptance of this mystery is a stewardship model for us. Good stewards remain open to the incursions of divine life into the normal course of their daily lives. How open are we to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our own lives? What might we do this last week of Advent to be more attentive to the Lord?

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT - CHRISTMAS In the liturgy for Christmas Mass at dawn we hear from the Gospel reading that God has entered quietly into the world. Not into the great city of Jerusalem, but into a small village about five miles south. Not into a noble family, but to an outcast couple keeping the newborn in a manger. Not announced by royal edicts, but to common shepherds, the first human heralds of Christ’s birth. As Christian stewards, we simply allow Christ to live in us no matter what our circumstances happen to be. We allow Christ to share His love with us and reflect that love out to others. We now are the heralds of Christ’s Incarnation. What an unimaginable gift from a generous Lord. Good stewards rejoice in this gift and give glory to God.

ROSARY FOR PEACE The Rosary for peace for our country and our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30am Mass.

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
