The Librarian has over 10 years Social Science
research experience, and over 5 years providing
Library & Research support at Yorkville University. You
can contact him for any reference, research, and
database question pertaining to your studies.
Using “ASK YU” is perfect for the weekends to ensure that your question has been triaged. Otherwise, you can contact the Librarian directly.
The Librarian can respond to many of your questions. ◦ Finding & Navigating the Library ◦ Providing search strategies for assignments ◦ In-depth research consultation ◦ APA citation advice
Please note, all questions about textbooks can go directly to the bookstore: Yorkville/RCC Bookstore [email protected] or call them at 1-877-289-1151 (toll free North America). You can contact me for any textbook challenge that cannot be addressed by the bookstore.
You start by selecting the “MyYU” button to view the main options
You will then see many options, including the button allowing you access to the Library
You’ve now reached the library. You need to
scroll down the page to see Library options.
You now can access the Library’s
resources…both scholarly resources and
external weblinks.
You can access to many resources.
Databases for Psychology, Education, and business
are available via the “Academic” label.
Databases for Steeles based programmes, such
as BID, Btech can find their databases via the
“Professional” label.
Please note, all databases are accessible to all students.
EBSCO Academic, for example, has many databases providing full-text, peer reviewed resources.
In “EBSCO Academic” just select “Continue” to go to
the database.
Here is the EBSCO interface for searching for scholarly
resources.
Both EBSCO Academic & EBSCO Professional have ebook options.
EBSCO Academic has ebooks for Psychology, Business, and Education.
EBSCO Professional has ebooks for all other programmes.
You can access the ebook platform from EBSCO
Academic by selecting the “Choose Databases” option.
Deselect all of the databases except ebook collections, press
okay.
Please note… you “do not” need any special software to access the
ebooks. You “do not” need to “borrow” or “sign them out”.
“If” you want to read the material “offline”, then you need to
download “Adobe Digital Editions” and create an internal EBSCO
account by pressing the “Sign in” button in the database.
Please note, many people will purchase ebooks from the bookstore and have follow up questions. It is important to note the following: ◦ It may take up to 24 hours for the bookstore to
process your ebook purchase. ◦ You will receive an access email which sometimes
can accidentally go to your email spam folder. ◦ If you have not received your ebook email after 2
business days, then directly contact the bookstore for a status update.
This is only a brief orientation. A more thorough orientation with audio will be provided in the coming months.
Please feel free to ask plenty of questions.
Good luck in your studies!
