Joanie Cohen-Mitchell Literacy Specialist and Chief of Programming (acting)
Background: M.Ed. in nonformal education and Ed.D. in Educational Policy, Research and Administration with a focus on literacy from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Over 25 years experience working in program development, evaluation and training design and delivery in adult and nonformal education, basic education, literacy and early childhood programs in Haiti, Guatemala, El Salvador, Peru, Namibia, the eastern Caribbean and throughout Massachusetts. Taught graduate and undergraduate courses at UMass, SIT, and Greenfield Community College. RPCV Haiti and Paraguay and Pre-service Trainer in Haiti and Costa Rica. Fluent in Spanish, Haitian Kreyol, and once spoke Gaurani.

Background: M.P.P. from the Ford School of Public Policy and M.S.I. from the School of Information at the University of Michigan with a specialization in Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICTD). Over seven years experience in international development; including program evaluation, project management, education programs, survey design, ethnography, monitoring & evaluation, and science & technology in development. Returned Peace Corps Volunteer in Madagascar. Fluent in French, Conversational in Malagasy, Beginner in Spanish, Fluent in Python.
