OLTP Physical Complexity - Modelling 3NF ConsiderationsBusiness Model must appear as if everything is coming from a data warehouse!
Requirements Gathering
Mapping the Physical tables - What are the Dimensions / Facts / Hierarchies / Content levels
Combined Fact/Dim Tables 3NF schema, you typically just get one table that contains both the Dimensions and Facts
Time Dimension
There is NONE!
Snow-Flaking
Combine multiple tables into the same Logical Table Source in the Business Model
Parent-Child Hierarchies Self-Joins and Parent-Child Hierarchies occur when you have the same physical table joining to
itself (via aliases)
Aliases
to prevent circular joins and multiple possible join paths
Logical Keys
3NF tables will often join together on multiple columns (and possibly have more complex join
criteria)
Outer-Joins
Outer-joins are slow for performance
Disable Caching
Cache strategy - stale cache
Optimising
Which source table will be given a higher priority?
Avoid these complexities
with BI APPS!!

Components
The Middleware (BI and ETL) tier a WebLogic domain andassociated system components, comprising BI componentsdelivered as part of OBIEE 11.1.1.7 (including Essbase and relatedapplications) as one managed server, and another managed servercontaining ODI Java components, including three new BI Apps-
related ones; Configuration Manager
Functional Setup Manager
ODI Load Plan Generator
The Database (DW and Repositories) tier for the time-being,
Oracle only, and comprising a data warehouse schema (staging +performance layer), and a repository database containing theOBIEE repository schemas plus new ones to hold the ODI repositoryand other ETL/configuration metadata used for configuring yoursystem.

Setting up a new BI Apps system involves using the Configuration

You can then view theexecution steps and outcome
either in ODI Console
(embedded within
Configuration Manager), or
over at ODI Studio, using the

Oracle Data Integrator
ETL tool of Choice?
The new release of Oracle Business Intelligence (BI) Applications11g, Release 11.1.1.7.1 has been designed to add new in-memoryanalytic applications, significantly expand functional content acrossexisting front and back-office Oracle BI Applications, re-architectthe solution to leverage the power of Oracle Data Integrator and,
introduce new out-of-the-box tools to increase productivity anddrive down Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
E-LT Transformation vs. E-T-L
Best in class for Performance, Scalability, Availability
Lightweight Deployment for Lowering TCO

Skillset
Have you got other Sources using ODI
The ODI Repository for Oracle BI Applications comprises two repositories:
Master Repository. Topology of resources, security, version management. A
master repository is usually associated with multiple work repositories, but
work repositories are always attached to a single Master repository
Work Repository. Contains data models, projects, load plans and scenarios.
This is the development and execution repository.

ODI Load Plan Generator
Load Plan Generator works behind the scenes to build new loadplans in a similar way to the Execution Plan Build feature in theDAC
Packages in ODI perform the same role as Informatica workflows in earlier releases of the BIApps, and each package runs some steps to refresh variables, work out if its doing a full orincremental load, and then call the relevant ODI interface. Interfaces in ODI for the BI Apps
typically load from other temporary interfaces, with these temporary interfaces performing therole of maplets in the Informatica version of the BI Apps
Individual packages are then assembled using the Load Plan Generator, which also gets installedinto ODI Studio as a plug-in so you can develop new data loading routines away from the fullproduction setup. These load plans are then visible from within ODI Studio (whether they weregenerated there, or from Configuration Manager), and like all ODI 11g load plans you can view theoutcome of each load plan instance run, also restart it if this feature is enabled

The Oracle Database has specific optimisation techniques for querying Star-Schemas
(referred to as Star Transformation)
Star-schemas can be easily optimised for reporting against large data-volumes (e.g.
creating aggregate tables or materialized views)
Star-Schema data structures facilitate the expansion of the Data-Warehouse by
adding additional Fact tables which can share common Dimensions already present

About E-LT Architecture
The extract and stage load step isgenerated from a combination ofthe main interface and the nestedtemporary interface. The loadtransform step is generated as aresult of the integration knowledgemodule (IKM).
Note that Oracle Database is the onlydatabase type supported for the Oracle BIApplications repository schemas and theBusiness Analytics Warehouse.
Typically, the extract-load-transform process has two main steps:
The first step is the extract and stage load step, and the second step is the loadtransform step. The first step is the extract and stage load step, and the secondstep is the load transform step.

Pro and Cons Developer PerspectiveBI Apps Release 11.1.1.7.1
Developer is the one who benefits and is affected by both the architectural Pros andCons, as well as the End-User level ones. Still, there are a couple whose impact is being
felt mostly by Developers:
Pros:
New Extract Load and Transform (E-LT) technology that improves performance andreduces data integration costs, even across heterogeneous systems by pushing theprocessing required down to the typically large and powerful database servers already
in place within the enterprise
Easier application management (trough Oracle BI Applications ConfigurationManager) integrated ODI control
ODI helps to integrate data end-to-end across the full BI Applications architecture, supporting capabilities such as data-lineage which helps business users identifyreport-to-source capabilities
