    Phenomenologycomesfromtheacademicdisciplinesofphilosophyandpsychology,anditisbasedupontheworkofthe20thcenturyphilosopherEdmundHusserl,whichwasthenlaterdevelopedbyHeidegger.

    Introduction

    Initsbroadestsense,'phenomenology'referstoaperson'sperceptionofthemeaningofanevent,asopposedtotheeventasitexistsexternallyto(outsideof)thatperson.

    Thefocusofphenomenologicinquiryiswhatpeopleexperienceinregardtosomephenomenonorotherandhowtheyinterpretthoseexperiences.

    Aphenomenologicalresearchstudyisastudythatattemptstounderstandpeople'sperceptions,perspectivesandunderstandingsofaparticularsituation(orphenomenon).

    Inotherwords,aphenomenologicalresearchstudytriestoanswerthequestion'Whatisitliketoexperiencesuchandsuch?'.

    Bylookingatmultipleperspectivesofthesamesituation,aresearchercanstarttomakesomegeneralisationsofwhatsomethingislikeasanexperiencefromthe'insider's'perspective.
