CHOLESTEROL SCREENING:TIPS & ADVICE
During prick:
REMEMBER: dont be afraid to prick the patient.Pricking them hard ONCE is better than having to

CHOLESTEROL SCREENING:TIPS & ADVICE
Other things to know:
Capillary tubes will clot with blood if the sample is nottaken quickly.
Collect the blood sample with the capillary tube lying
sideways to the finger (this will maximize the amount of
blood collected and minimize air bubbles).

Inflating the Cuff
1. Position the
diaphragm of the
stethoscope above the
brachial artery
2. Inflate cuff to
~20mmHg above the
recorded value from
previous step

Deflating the Cuff
3. Deflate cuff at 2-3mmHg/s until the 1st
Korotkoff sound is heard.
This is the systolic value.
4. Continue deflating until the sound
disappears (~5th Korotkoff sound).
This is the diastolic value.
