Piezoresistive sensorFor protective purposes, the piezoresistive sensor is flushed with a hydraulic fluid. The medium
is separated by means of a stainless steel diaphragm. Flexure of the diaphragm as the result of theexternal pressure causes a change in the hydraulic pressure of the fluid around the piezoresistive
sensor. The sensor emits a pressureproportional signal which is converted to a 4 - 20 mA outputsignal.

Ceramic pressure sensors typically use thick-film technology to create a low cost, stable, androbust media-compatible pressure sensor. These sensors are an excellent alternative to more
expensive stainless steel pressure sensors or oil-filled sensors using silicon piezoresistive sensingelements for any application where an o-ring can be used.
Why?C
eramic pressure sensors are capable for use in nearly all types of harsh media and highpressures. They can be easily packaged to meet your own housing requirements, and manyconfigurations are available including unamplified or signal-conditioned, various calibration
ranges. Low cost, single piece (monolithic) sensors come as gauge only. A smooth membrane iswelded to the base to allow for absolute and sealed gauge snesors when that configuration may
be required. Also available are ceramic capacitive sensors which have the abilility to measurelow pressures such as 60 mbar but can tolerate high overpressures. For example, the ME550 can
tolerate an overpressure of 2 bar. This advantage offers designers new possibilities for pressuremeasurement.
As we previously said, using a ceramic pressure sensor requires the use of an o-ring which is
straightforward and inexpensive. Standard models have 96% ceramic composition which takescare of many types of harsh media. For certain types of media, 99% ceramic composition can
also be requested. For the ultimate protection, saphire composition is also available. However, since it is expensive, it is important to understand the nature of your media.
Ceramic pressure sensors can be used in all types of applications including
y Gasoline measurementy Hydraulic and brake fluidy Wafer processingy High pressure pneumatic controly Level measurementy Medical applications and much more
Packaging these sensors can be customized for your applicationor through use of standard housing which is also available. See the image here which showsstandard housing. The sensor can be easily embedded in vales and pumps, opening the
possibilities for better control in your application.

Kilogram per Square Centimeter (kg/cm) orKilogram Force per Square Centimeter(kgf/cm) - is a pressure unit that has been largely superceded by the SI unit system of pascal
units. It is the metric equivalent of pounds per square inch (psi). 1 kg/cm2 equals 98,066.5Pascals.

Transducer - is a device that converts a non-electrical change into an electrical change.
Pressure
Natural gas domestic installations are normally supplied at the outlet of the meter with a
prescribed pressure of 1.25 kPa. The gas installation piping is normally sized to ensure that a
pressure of 1 kPa is available to each appliance connected to the installation. This ensures that allappliances operate safely and perform adequately.
Where high pressures are available in the reticulation system, Natural Gas domestic customerscan be supplied at the outlet of the meter with a pressure of 2.75 kPa. This higher pressure allows
the installation piping to be reduced in size as a greater pressure drop can be allowed across the
installation.
LP Gas installations normally operate at a pressure of 2.75 kPa. This pressure is set at the gas
pressure regulator adjacent to the cylinder or tank. The installation piping is usually sized toensure a pressure of 2.75 kPa is available at the appliances.

Gas Pressures
Natural gas originates in the north sea at a well head pressure of 100 bar. After
pressure reduction at pumping rigs this is reduced to 70 bar at shore terminals.
The mains pressure in the local distributing system may be from 30mbar to 7
bar.
The gas systems are classified as follows:
Low pressure - up to 75mbar
Medium pressure - 75mbar to 2 bar
Intermediate pressure - 2 bar to 7 bar
High pressure - above 7 bar
The services pipe pressure to a consumers premises is about 30mbar to
50mbar.
This is reduced to a working pressure of21mbar by a regulator at the inlet to
the meter.
Gas Governors
Natural gas is subjected to fluctuations in pressure and the governor limits thegas pressure and flow rate. A safe minimum gas pressure in the mains is
required by statute, this is 12.5 mbar.
To ensure that each appliance is supplied with gas at the pressure for which it
was designed, it is necessary to control the pressure within limits, this is done by
the governor.

A service governor is fitted on a gas service pipe, upstream of the meter. A
meter governor is fitted downstream of the meter.
Internal installation pipework starts after the meter.
Most domestic meters are supplied with meter governors connected to the meter
gas inlet. A filteris incorporated into the meter governor to rid the gas flow of
impurities.
Inside the governor a spring loaded diaphragm regulates flow and pressure. The
diaphragm will work in any position since it is spring loaded
