PROCLAMATION OF THE PINE HILLS NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION HONORING OFFICER JOSEPH ACQUAVIVA FOR HIS DEDICATION TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND DECLARING JUNE 19, 2015 JOE ACQUAVIVA DAY IN WESTERN PINE HILLSWhereas, Officer Joseph Acquaviva (Joe) has been the western Pine Hills Neighborhood Engagement Unit (NEU) officer since the inception of Albanys community policing program and as such, has helped define and exemplify the APD-neighborhood partnership to contribute to and support the areas vision; and

Whereas, Officer Acquaviva is a problem-solver who has helped countless Pine Hills neighbors with quality of life issues including addressing vacant building issues and resolving codes concerns; and

Whereas, Joe attends monthly Pine Hills NA meetings during which he can be counted on to get to the core of complicated issues and offer insightful solutions; and

Whereas, Joe Acquaviva provides very prompt follow up to requests for information including those relating to City departments beyond Police responsibility. This non-bureaucratic approach reflects his can -do attitude; and

Whereas, Joe Acquaviva participates in Upper Madison Improvement Group committee meetings and offers creative, concrete ideas about the Group's many projects; and

Whereas, Officer Acquaviva not only has ideas but he gets things done.

For example, Joe has:

- Constructed trash can containers to improve Upper Madison streetscape.

Arranged, with Madison Theater manager, a special movie showing as a fundraiser for neighborhood projects.

Initiated an official request to upgrade lighting of Center Station to include night time lighting of historic seal.

- Spoken to merchants about the advantages of forming an Upper Madison Merchants Association.

Obtained a donated Christmas tree from a local nursery, and installed it for the neighborhood tree lightings.

Constructed a framework for displaying children's art at the Upper Madison Street Fair.

Assisted with the permit application for the installation of an Upper Madison free-standing business directory.

Obtained and posted a No Trespassing sign on CVS in order to prevent graffiti taggers from using CVS roof to access Madison Theater.

- Publicized neighborhood events through the city's internal communication system.

- Worked on a plan for the installation of a sprinkler system for the park in front

of Center Station.

- Worked out a logistical traffic plan for expeditious traffic flow at the Upper Madison Street Fair

- Attended a Steamer No.10 fundraising event on his day off and made a financial contribution;

Whereas, words cannot express the deep appreciation we have for the unrelenting dedication that Officer Acquaviva provides to our neighborhood.

Now therefore, the Board of the Pine Hills Neighborhood Association is proud to recognize all that Officer Acquaviva has done as a partner, friend and honorary resident of the western area of the Pine Hills neighborhood that we do hereby declare Friday, June 19, 2015 Joe Acquaviva Day.
