Welcome to the Spring 2019 edition of Fluid Magazine. One of the highlights of early Spring is our Annual Owner’s Conference which was held this year at the Hilton Bonnet Creek Orlando. The Conference is an important time to learn, re-focus, and engage with other owners. In this issue you can read about the award winners who were recognized during the two-day event, Engage 2 Excel, where we emphasized the importance of being a Brand Ambassador.
Expanding the PIRTEK brand and footprint here in the U.S. is a strong focus for 2019. Our franchise count as of the publication of this magazine stands at 85, up from 78 at the end of 2018. In addition, PIRTEK USA has joined the Canadian Franchise Association and we are excited to begin our expansion into Canada. As we grow, it is important that our product lines keep pace with technology advancements. On April 1st, we announced the launch of the PIRTEK Endurance Series line of compact hydraulic hose. Read more about this high-performance hose on page 9.
Featured in the “Meet the Franchisee” column is Bill and Sandy Hubbell, owners of PIRTEK Valley View in Cleveland, Ohio. Bill just celebrated his 15th anniversary with PIRTEK and joined the PIRTEK Legacy Group at our annual conference in April. It is always interesting to learn about the journey of our franchise owners.
As it states in our Mission Statement, “we strive to be giving participants in the communities we serve”. You will see this in action as you read about how PIRTEK USA team members participated in a packing event with the Children’s Hunger Project. You will also find other informational articles about the PIRTEK Daytona Grand Opening Event, the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge, and more. I trust that you will enjoy this edition and be inspired about engaging with the PIRTEK brand.

in Germany and had used our hoses,” said Carl Prince, owner of PIRTEK Elmwood in the New Orleans area. “They wondered if we could do this job. We said, ‘Yeah, that’s what we do.’”
NASA’s largest test facility for rocket engines is on the banks of the Pearl River in Mississippi, about 60 minutes from PIRTEK Elmwood. In addition to rocket engines, the NASA facility also tests Rolls-Royce engines made for Boeing 737s and Gulfstream G650s. The stringent testing occurs while the engines dangle from special harnesses.
Before that job was even finished, PIRTEK Elmwood got another call from Rolls-Royce: They needed hoses for a machine that cools a large laser operating at the same facility. The client provided some complex schematics so PIRTEK
Testing of jet engines at high-tech NASA facility requires some extra lift from PIRTEK Elmwood.
PIRTEK Elmwood is serving its biggest customer ever – Rolls-Royce – thanks to the power of the PIRTEK name.
Back in January, company representatives were seeking a PIRTEK Service & Supply Center to provide hoses for a test of jet engines that the luxury automaker manufactures. The engineers had flown in from Germany and needed to find a PIRTEK location near the John C. Stennis Space Center, a NASA rocket-testing facility near the Louisiana-Mississippi border.
“The gentlemen were looking for a PIRTEK and walked into our center; they knew PIRTEK
could identify the required hoses. Prince called upon Richard Evans, PIRTEK USA Technical Manager, to help interpret the schematics.
“Richard helped figure it out; he determined what they needed and was part of a three-way phone conversation,” Prince said. “We were under the gun to get it done in less than two weeks – we could not miss the date.”
And they didn’t.
“We got the hoses to them within two days of the deadline,” Prince said. “The customer was ecstatic with our performance. We came through for him, and he was really impressed.”
And that led to yet another Rolls-Royce job for PIRTEK Elmwood at the NASA facility: Hose work for a huge cooling tower on wheels designed to regulate the temperatures of the engines being tested. “It’s bigger than a house, it’s massive,” Prince said. “When it came over from England, they discovered that the hoses had dry rot, so they needed replacing.”
The hoses on all three projects were sizable and included lengths of up to 250 running feet. PIRTEK Elmwood wrapped up the work in February.
“The cooling tank job was more than just furnishing the hoses – we performed the labor, too,” Prince said. “Everything went as it should. PIRTEK came through for them.”

the winter in Milwaukee, which is near Menomonee Falls, and the search began for someone to do the hose replacement work. “Three of us walked the boat for three hours, checking it out – it was not a small job,” said Fechter, adding that all the ship’s hoses need replacing every seven years.
One of the main selling points for PIRTEK was its multiple centers around the Great Lakes, especially its presence in port cities. That means if a hose needs replacing near a nautically accessible center such as Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, or Muskegon, the company would get the same, standardized replacement service. “They really liked that we had centers located in so many areas,” Fechter said.
In fact, Fechter teamed up with Ed Cushing, General Manager of PIRTEK Madison Heights, PIRTEK Sterling Heights, PIRTEK

Great Lakes barge taps PIRTEK Menomonee for massive hose replacement job.
The Integrity, a giant barge that travels the Great Lakes, needed some hoses replaced – 258 of them. That was too big a job for some hydraulics maintenance companies, and the vessel’s owner, Andrie, Inc., had difficulty finding a quote on the work.
That is until the company contacted PIRTEK Menomonee Falls.
“They really needed a company that specialized in onsite hose replacement with multiple centers around the Great Lakes,” said Tom Fechter, Owner of the Service & Supply Center in Menomonee Falls, WI. “That’s where we came in.”
The Integrity was operating out of Muskegon, MI, where it was hauling Portland cement for a Swiss client. The ship docked for
Westland, and PIRTEK Wixom, to work out a special tagging matrix for the barge – something the customer requested to further simplify future hose replacements on the ship.
“We got together to make this work for the customer,” Fechter said. “It really resonated with them that they could be anywhere, make a stop to go into port, and the hose they needed would be ready to go.’”
As a result of the collaboration, Cushing had an opportunity to bid on a hose replacement job on the Innovation, a sister ship owned by the same company.
“Tom and I worked together to make sure both centers were on the same page, treating the customer the same for uniformity and organization,” said Cushing, “The more organized and uniform we are, the better we promote the brand.”

Meet the FranchiseeNames: Bill and Sandy HubbellLocations: PIRTEK Valley View - Cleveland, OhioYears in PIRTEK: 15 Years
How did you first become aware of PIRTEK and its franchise system?
Initially, I believe I came across PIRTEK through its inclusion in the Franchise Top 100 back in 2003 while looking for business opportunities both in and outside the franchise community.
What attracted you to becoming a PIRTEK franchisee over other businesses that you investigated?
My background and experiences came out of either being in or servicing the agricultural and turf &
ornamental industry. As I started looking for a new business to get involved with, I wanted to be sure to include but also look beyond those. I enjoy building business to business relationships that last. When I first started looking into what PIRTEK provided, I thought… ‘I would use that service, so I could probably sell it.’
PIRTEK is often described as a family - as a franchisee - can you elaborate on some of the elements that makes PIRTEK feel like a family?
The network of franchisees is very supportive of each other. Questions get answered,
and inventory gets shared. More recently the support coming from PIRTEK USA has expanded and been very engaged. The PUSA sales team has directly influenced our sales growth and is appreciated. Finally, the annual meeting facilitates getting back together with other members of the network to catch up and share ideas, successes, and challenges.
What are some of the major positives of being a PIRTEK franchisee?
Coming in from outside the industry, the training provided on the technical part of the

New ownership, management, support and energy has the company on the move. The name has gained recognition with time and an expanding network. Maybe as important the on-site hose replacement services offered are getting more mainstream and accepted by the customer. (It was a pretty foreign concept 15 years ago).
That along with the emphasis to build a national account customer base should make it easier for a new franchise to be successful much faster. I’m not saying it is easy, or won’t take a lot of work and focus, but a larger foundation now exists.
PIRTEK - through being on-call 24/7 - is known for how dynamic and adaptable its
hydraulic industry was very valuable. After a few weeks, myself and the team were competent and gaining confidence in their ability to service a variety of hydraulic service requirements. We continue to learn every day. A lot of that comes from being challenged by our customers to do more for them as they gain confidence in us from the everyday hose replacement. Another benefit as PIRTEK grows the network is the opportunities it can provide. It gives technicians, managers, and administrative team members the opportunity to build a career should they choose. Whether it is a promotion inside our franchise, a desire to relocate with a job waiting on the other end, opening your own franchise or working with PIRTEK USA are all paths for our team we share to keep them engaged and moving forward.
If anyone reading was thinking about buying a PIRTEK franchise, what would you say to them?
Today’s PIRTEK system is a lot different than it was 15 years ago when I opened.
product range is - surely you’ve got some stories about unique uses of product or sticky situations you or your staff have found themselves in?
There have been too many to recall the best stories. One that always comes to mind was getting a call from a GM plant needing a hose they couldn’t find made and replaced at 10:00 at night because by midnight the plant would have to close. The broken machine loaded the scrap metal coming off the end of the assembly line into rail cars and the scrap wasn’t being loaded and getting very backed up. If I remember right, they said it costs them a million dollars to shut down and restart the plant. They didn’t have to shut down as we had the products we needed in the van and had them up and running by 11:15. But there are stories every day. Whether it’s a loaded concrete truck that blows a hose and can’t unload or an asphalt paver that breaks down with 5 loaded dump trucks of hot (but cooling off) asphalt waiting, we work hard every day to keep our customers running.

PIRTEK Daytona Grows to Tier 1 Status Two Years Ahead of Schedule
PIRTEK Daytona’s new Tier 1 Service & Supply Center opened its doors to a crowd of well-wishers on May 2 for an open house and ribbon cutting. Guests included city officials from South Daytona, FL; members of the Port Orange South Daytona Chamber of Commerce, and other community dignitaries.
“It was such a great turnout, and there is a lot of interest in PIRTEK,” said Karin Ferretti, Vice President and Office Manager of PIRTEK Daytona and PIRTEK Space Coast. “It was a very good way to kick off this new stage of our growth.”
The new Service & Supply Center is at 2841 South Nova Road, Suite 8, South Daytona, FL.
PIRTEK Daytona opened a mobile-only hydraulic hose replacement franchise in July 2017 to take advantage of the prolific business and industry growth going on in Volusia
County. The ongoing economic health in the area has allowed that franchise to expand ahead of schedule by nearly two years into a full brick-and-mortar Service & Supply Center.
“There’s a lot of current and potential opportunities in the Daytona area for our hydraulic hose service,” said Dan Ferretti, Owner of PIRTEK Daytona and PIRTEK Space Coast in Brevard County. “Volusia County features a number of industries and businesses that regularly require the fast services and quality products we provide. From companies that manufacture pumps and cement blocks, to marine-based businesses and heavy equipment rental companies – we keep these industries operating.” Among the new business that PIRTEK Daytona has acquired recently is the Daytona International Speedway, site of the Daytona 500. The raceway uses lifts, fork-lift trucks, and
other pieces of equipment powered by hydraulics. The surrounding area itself is alive with economic activity as people move into the county and as construction works to accommodate the needs of an expanded population. U.S. Census Data indicates a nearly 2-percent increase last year and a 7-percent increase since 2013. “So much is going on in Volusia County: In addition to the manufacturing and road construction, Daytona Beach has planned a vast area for new retail space in addition to the recently announced Amazon distribution center,” said Karin Ferretti. “They’ve recently opened an enormous outlet mall, and have begun construction on many retail stores and other establishments. We’re anticipating so much growth, that we’re being proactive, getting the ball rolling ahead of time.”

New PIRTEK Endurance Series Hose Offers Superior Flexibility, Toughness
Durable, high-pressure hose tested at 1 million impulse cycles; an outstanding new agriculture, excavator, and forklift hose.
PIRTEK USA announces the launch of the PIRTEK Endurance Series line of compact hydraulic hose, now available at local Service & Supply Centers throughout the United States. Onsite PIRTEK technicians will have this new high-performance hose on hand for their field installations.
The PIRTEK Endurance Series hose line provides superior flexibility and accommodates a tighter bend radius than conventional SAE hoses. It also stands up to higher pressure ratings and is tested at 1 million impulse cycles. “This new line of hose handles the intense workloads and higher working pressure that today’s advanced machinery requires, in conjunction with tighter bend radiuses,” said PIRTEK USA Technical Manager, Richard Evans. “The PIRTEK Endurance Series hose answers the marketplace demand for a premium featured
hose with enhanced longevity that is also lightweight.”
The PIRTEK Endurance Series hose is made of black synthetic rubber that is resistant to oils, abrasion, and the effects from ozone. It is suitable for mineral and vegetable oils, aqueous emulsions, water, air, and inert gases. The new hose line tested to 1 million impulse cycles far exceeds the minimum-specified 200,000 impulse cycles for the conventional SAE-rated hoses. Industries that convey petroleum-based media at high pressures will find PIRTEK’s
new premium wire-braided hose beneficial, especially for forklifts, excavators, heavy agricultural, maritime, and other demanding applications.
“PIRTEK is growing rapidly, and we want to make sure our product lines keep pace with technology advancements in the fluid power industry,” said Kim Gubera, PIRTEK USA Chief Executive Officer. “The PIRTEK Endurance Series hose does just that and is an excellent addition to our products. It’s another great offering for our franchisees as they grow and serve their customer bases.”

MANY factors can affect the life of a hydraulic hose, including site damage, abrasive wear, and prolonged exposure to heat and ultraviolet light. These can all be dealt with, but it will all be for naught if hoses are not installed and routed correctly.
Many people don’t consider hydraulic hoses to be high-tech components, even though they are expected to tolerate a wide spectrum of pressures, thousands of machine cycles, pressure ripple and spikes, and a wide range of motions. And if a hose fails, results include expensive downtime, damage to equipment, and potential injury to personnel. Following guidelines at the design stage can make equipment much more reliable, easier to maintain, and safer.
Because hose assemblies are flexible, be sure to make allowances for the application of pressure. Hose assemblies can stretch as much as 2% when pressurized. More importantly, they sometimes contract as
much as 4%. This can place excessive strain on the reinforcement of the hose and the crimp fitting, leading to a shortened lifespan of the hose assembly.
Therefore, you should cut the hose slightly longer to allow for expansion and contraction.
Hose installation
The life of a high pressure or hydraulic hose can be affected by many different factors. This includes site damage, wear and tear and the prolonged exposure to heat and ultra-violet light. One factor often overlooked is the routing of the hose. Most recognized hose and fitting assembly suppliers have technical data available to provide guidelines on how to correctly route hoses.
Many companies regard high pressure or hydraulic hoses as a low technology item. Until, one fails and causes excessive, expensive downtime, damage to equipment or machinery or an injury.
Equipment can be made much more reliable and easier to maintain and safer by following these guidelines at the design stage.
Engineering developments for hydraulics came about through
Best-Practice Installation and Routing Ensure Long Hose Life
the innovation of defense force artillery in the early 1900’s. They required flexible hoses to remotely deck mounted naval guns and therefore the hydraulic hose was created.
Some of the benefits of hydraulic hoses over steel tube assemblies include easier installation, Flexible operation, they offer a level of resistance to vibration and can allow for the misalignment of components. These elements should be considered when designing hydraulic systems.
Price and delivery are another factor. Hoses can usually be assembled either on-site or by purchasing one over the counter by visiting a hose shop. While steel tube assemblies would also be custom built, they can have extended delivery times and can be more expensive.
When designing systems special care needs to be taken to avoid certain conditions when routing and installing hose assemblies including:

PIRTEK Expands in Metro Atlanta with Launch of Fifth Franchise
PIRTEK Alpharetta a new ‘mobile-only’ location; Owner intends to solidify service area and grow quickly into full Service & Supply Center
The owner of PIRTEK Dobbins and PIRTEK Norcross is expanding his territory in metro Atlanta with the launch of his third franchise. PIRTEK Alpharetta opened for business April 1 as a mobile-only location, one of five locations that provide hydraulic and industrial hose repair in the Atlanta area.
“This is a natural extension of our two existing Service & Supply Centers,” said Mike McCarthy, owner of three PIRTEK locations. “PIRTEK provides an excellent business model to serve a wide variety of industries that rely on hydraulic and industrial hoses. The mobile-only option is a great way to expand operations into new markets as the business continues to grow.”
McCarthy’s other Atlanta-area PIRTEK Centers had already been making service calls into Alpharetta, so he considers the Tier 2 launch a logical progression. “We’re very familiar with this area and are developing strong customer relationships here. Launching PIRTEK Alpharetta allows us to grow the business in this market to its full potential,” he said.
The increasing vibrancy of metro Atlanta’s economy was a motivating force for McCarthy establishing another PIRTEK in the area. Metro Atlanta is home to the corporate headquarters of such thriving companies as Mercedes Benz, Delta Air Lines, Porsche, First Data Corporation and WestRock, while the presence of Georgia Tech has helped bolster the technology sector.
With more than 900 technology companies in the area, Alpharetta
is the sixth-fastest-growing city in the United States, the “Technology City of the South,” according to Forbes.
“We have high tech, a lot of infrastructure development with buildings and new construction. The Atlanta economy is very strong, as good as the U.S. economy, if not better in terms of GDP and growth. The future looks bright.” McCarthy said.

New Owner of PIRTEK Overland Pursues Growth in Construction Industry, Builds Team of Local 513 Members
PIRTEK Overland owner also launches mobile-only PIRTEK St. Louis to expand work with construction equipment and rental companies; techs are now members of Local 513.
Jared Gross is the new Owner of PIRTEK Overland and PIRTEK St. Louis, both in metro St. Louis. One major change under his ownership is that the Service & Supply Center at 9425 Dielman Rock Island Industrial Drive, Olivette, MO 63132 and the mobile-only PIRTEK St. Louis are now staffed with members of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 513.
Gross said the union affiliation will be instrumental in helping the center obtain jobs in the thriving construction market in downtown St. Louis, a market that totals about $6 billion. “It will allow us to work on operators’ equipment: cranes, dozers, any machine on a union jobsite,” Gross said. “We’ve
acquired two new vehicles for that purpose.”
Hose-replacement service calls for companies that supply trucks and rental equipment to union workers will also be open now to PIRTEK Overland, Gross said.
Gross is optimistic about economic activity in St. Louis, which is seeing a flurry of construction, including an Amazon distribution center and a facility for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
“There’s a lot going on here. I’ll be focusing on the area around our center, then work toward expanding outward,” he said.
The new owner’s varied background equips him well for his work as a PIRTEK owner. He started out working in concrete flatwork, helping produce multi-story structures such as air traffic control towers and sports stadiums. Later, he became a mechanical designer of power plants. In recent years, Gross entered sales and became the top salesman in the United States for a prominent garage door company.
He said that the PIRTEK locations went up for sale at just the right time for him.
“I’m still young enough to take risks, old enough to guide myself through it,” Gross said. “The timing and opportunity were right for this location, so I capitalized on it.”

New Owner of PIRTEK Overland Pursues Growth in Construction Industry, Builds Team of Local 513 Members Founder of Aerospace Giant Invests in PIRTEK Orlando
Owner and general manager of longtime center come from $4.2 billion company; will maintain focus on expanding Orlando customer base.
Robert Khoury, co-founder and retired CEO of B/E Aerospace, Inc., acquired PIRTEK Orlando in February and has appointed his former director of operations to run the longtime Service & Supply Center. “We’re very excited about this business, and we’re looking forward to expanding it here,” said Walter Alfaro, general manager, who will be running PIRTEK Orlando’s day-to-day operations at 1820 S. Division
Ave. “Companies that use hydraulic equipment benefit from our service regardless of economic conditions, making this business stable and largely recession-proof.” The PIRTEK Center has been in Orlando for 16 years. Like Khoury, Alfaro comes to PIRTEK from B/E Aerospace, a $4.2 billion company where he served as director of operations and director of facilities during his 24 years there. That work has equipped him well for the challenges of running the existing PIRTEK center, he said. Alfaro’s tenure at B/E Aerospace entailed supervision of 120 employees,
oversight of maintenance, and management of an area that included a 157,000 square-foot equipment facility. Much of the equipment under his supervision contained hydraulic elements, he said. Among the center’s prominent regular customers are such area attractions as SeaWorld, as well as contractors involved in large-scale roadway construction, Alfaro said. “They’ve been very happy with our service and with our presence here,” he said. “It’s been extremely positive working with them.” The new general manager added that PIRTEK Orlando will work hard on “revisiting our customer base and identifying customers that haven’t used us in a while.” As PIRTEK Orlando pursues its ongoing objectives, Alfaro said it will rely on an expert staff that helps position the Service & Supply Center for continued success. “We were lucky to get such an excellent crew,” said Alfaro. “It’s a high-performing crew from the office staff to the field staff.”

New Owner of PIRTEK Center to Focus on Tucson’s Heavy Hydraulics Users
Owner of PIRTEK Altamonte Springs Acquires PIRTEK Franchises in Tampa, Pinellas County
PIRTEK Palo Verde Owner comes with strong sales background; will cultivate customer base in mining, rentals, military, airports.
Ron Trombetti, the new Owner of PIRTEK Palo Verde in Tucson, AZ, said he plans to make good use of his sales background as he pursues business among the area’s primary hydraulics users: rental companies, airports,
PIRTEK Tampa, PIRTEK Pinellas to pursue business in construction, transportation, manufacturing, waste, and recycling.
David Herbert, owner of PIRTEK Altamonte Springs, has expanded his business in Florida with the acquisition of two more franchises: PIRTEK Tampa and PIRTEK Pinellas. PIRTEK Tampa is an existing Service & Supply Center at 1502 N. 34th Street, Tampa, FL 33605, while PIRTEK Pinellas is a mobile-only location in Pinellas County.
“We’ve made excellent progress with our Altamonte Springs location,” said Herbert, who acquired the two locations in February. “We felt comfortable
military, and mines. Trombetti acquired the PIRTEK Service & Supply Center in March.
“We will be focusing on the big opportunities in the area,” said Trombetti. His newly acquired
center, PIRTEK Palo Verde, is at 3455 S. Palo Verde Road, Suite 117, Tucson AZ, 85713. Heading the list of Tucson’s preeminent industries are aerospace and defense. The city and surrounding region are also renowned for their copper mining, as Arizona ranks as one of the metal’s premier producers in the United States. Many companies
the business and operations had reached a point that the timing was good to expand.”
“Tampa has been an outstanding market in the past and has a lot of potential,” Herbert said. “I also liked the fact that it’s an existing franchise, so a lot of the initial setup work is already done. Our mantra is ‘safety, quality, and one-hour ETA."
Industries the two locations will pursue and serve are typical for PIRTEK centers: construction, waste and recycling, manufacturing and transportation – including ports and airports.
in these industries operate an abundance of hydraulic machinery, making them ideal PIRTEK customers. “I looked into it and was impressed with the support the company made available to its franchises,” he said. “PIRTEK has a proven process that has been working. With PIRTEK, I knew I wouldn’t have to just rely on myself.”
Trombetti added that PIRTEK’s business-to-business aspect was one of many draws for him. “I just really wanted to get into the industrial focus,” he said. “That helped to make PIRTEK an attractive option.”
Herbert said he is optimistic about success in the new location’s territory. “I like the territory of Pinellas County. There’s a lot of industry,” he said.

On May 4th, a team of PIRTEK USA employees and family members came together to volunteer their Saturday morning and packaged 1,000
weekend meal kits for the organization. Every week over 2,000 meals are packaged and delivered to numerous elementary schools, with a goal of one day serving a total of 3,000 school children in need. In April, the corporate office also held a very successful internal fundraiser, a PIRTEK Day for Charity Event for The Children’s Hunger Project initiative. At the packing event, the team
was thrilled to present the organization a check for $920 dollars.

PIRTEK USA is Now a Member of the Canadian Franchise Association
As the number of PIRTEK franchises continues to grow across the United States, we are thrilled to begin our expansion to major markets in Canada. Canada has the second largest franchise industry in the world, led only by the USA. Many of the largest U.S. franchisors have introduced their franchise systems to Canada, and we look forward to being the latest franchisor to do so.
We are proud to announce PIRTEK USA is now a member of the Canadian Franchise Association, the voice, and authority of the franchise community in Canada. Beyond its role as the voice of the franchise industry, the Canadian Franchise Association assists entrepreneurs in owning their own franchise business. Much like the International Franchise Association, the CFA advocates on issues impacting its over 40,000 members, many from Canada’s best-known and emerging franchise brands. The CFA develops best-practice education and creates rewarding connections between Canadian entrepreneurs and franchise opportunities.
We look forward to our mutually beneficial work with the association as we connect with its people and resources.
PIRTEK USA will be a featured exhibitor at the country’s largest annual franchising event, the International Franchise Expo 2019, May 30 to June 1 in NYC. The PIRTEK team will be available to provide details on franchise opportunities, available markets and a new financing option. For more information: Click Here.

“Cory and I had the absolute best time. We love our children dearly but holy moly… we did
whatever we wanted, when we wanted! Hot tub? Sure! A walk? Sure! A drive? Sure! We laughed, we cried (from happiness), we made so many new inside jokes, we high-fived in public, we acted silly, we were spontaneous, we held hands! I think for me, I can truly say we reconnected as friends. Cory has always been my best friend but I forgot how to treat him like that. I’ve been so caught up trying to fix things I have forgotten how to just laugh and have fun.
"Thank you. Thank you.Thank you.”

PIRTEK Australia 2019 Fishing Challenge Recap
In its 11th year, the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge saw amazing numbers once again as 8,288 competitors went fishing in this huge one-day event on Sunday, March 17th, 2019.
The weather brought about a challenge of its own for anglers in the southern half of the nation. Those on the east coast received the worst of the rainy conditions. Despite this, participants still braved the weather to try their efforts in the national fishing competition.
Fishing started at 6 am on Sunday, March 17th and concluded at 6 pm the same day. Competitors had until 7 am AEDT Monday, March 18th to upload their fish photograph to the website for judging.
With over $213,000 in cash and prizes to be won, there were thousands of keen anglers trying their hand in waterways across Australia. A very big thank you goes out to our partners Abu Garcia, Berkley, Stacer, Evinrude, BCF, Spotters, Lowrance, Valvoline and Snap-On who put up the cash and prizes for the best brag mat entries, mystery length prizes and the extremely popular on the water prize draw.
There were entrants participating from every Australian State and Territory, all helping to raise funds and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of
Australia and the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit; with over A$1,000,000 being donated throughout the last 10 years.
There were some impressive catches during the competition including a flathead just over the magic meter mark, caught by a lucky land-based lady angler, plenty of meter-plus barramundi in Queensland, cracking trout in Tasmania, and some thumping big Murray cod throughout the Murray Darling Basin.
PIRTEK provides $90,000 in cash prizes, which are divided between 25 mystery length target fish, providing all entrants with a chance to win big without necessarily catching the biggest fish.
The highlight and mainstay prize of the fishing challenge is the On the Water prize draw and this year’s major winner was Lachlan Cameron from Mt Gambier, SA, who won the coveted $29,000 boat/motor/trailer package thanks to Stacer and Evinrude.
Tournament director, Michael Guest, was ecstatic with another massive year for the challenge. “I was very proud to see so many keen anglers supporting the Challenge and our charity partners in this year’s event,” said Guest. He continued, “It does to show what a bunch of dedicated anglers can achieve when we all get
together for a good cause. I know conditions were tough in some parts of the country, especially the East Coast of NSW but it didn’t slow too many fishermen down with thousands of photos uploaded to the website across the country.”PIRTEK Australia’s Executive General Manager - Marketing, Mark Devitt, said the success of the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge was something all his company’s staff, suppliers and franchisees could be enormously proud of.
“It is hard to believe that the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge has just completed its eleventh year and we have again notched up record numbers,” said Devitt.
“It is incredible to think how this initiative has grown under the leadership of tournament director, Michael Guest, who came to us with a terrific vision.
“While the PIRTEK Fishing Challenge provides us with a chance to bring so many anglers together for a fun event with some terrific prizes, it is also satisfying to know we are providing funds and awareness for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit.
The 12th PIRTEK Fishing Challenge will be held in March 2020.
