French fries appear in nanoscale! This artwork depicts the scanning electronic microscopic image of twisted nanofibers. Those nanofibers were fabricated by chemical etching of a crystal using a table salt solution at room temperature. During this process, a particular build block was selectively removed from the original crystal, leaving bundles of rods with diameters in the range of 200-300 nm, and lengths of approximately 15 µm. The twisting is resulted from the internal stress during the fiber growth, which suggests the potential application as nanoscale sensors.
