Pastor’s Pen
And so we have launched into fall and your church is bustling with all sorts of wonderful events to take
advantage of--what an exciting time! I hope you have been paying attention to various new opportunities
that have been put before you in recent weeks and are finding places to learn, study, serve, have
fellowship, give, and grow. If not, check out this newsletter and begin. If so, check out this newsletter and
continue!
One of the key parts of October's emphases is Stewardship, the responses we make to the presence and
goodness of God in our lives. This year's theme for Stewardship is "Offering Faithfulness." The key
scriptural passage we are using is I Chronicles 29:9, which reads: "Then the people rejoiced because these
had given willingly, for with single mind they had offered freely to the Lord" We are exploring the ways
we can offer to God our faithful allegiance, obedience, service, and devotion. The dedication we make to
what we will give to him has to involve our entire being--body, mind, spirit, and soul. It touches our
material possessions and our talents and our time. I hope that all of us will be challenged to think and pray
and consider where we are in our relationship to God and his desires for his people, his world, for you, for
me. I invite you to enter this period with an open heart and mind, and to let yourselves be moved by the
Spirit of the living God as you decide what you will share with Christ's church as 2016 approaches.
We kick off the Stewardship emphasis on Sunday, Oct. 18. It continues through Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. On
Nov. 1, you are asked to bring your responses to worship and lay them before God during the services that
day, which include Holy Communion and a tribute to the saints of the church who have gone before us,
our mothers and fathers of the faith. I will be writing to all of you later in October specifically about this
day, Nov. 1, and what should lead up to it. I look forward to sharing more with you then.
This coming Sunday is World Communion Sunday. We will join hundreds of millions around the globe in
celebrating the Holy Supper as a commitment to the Christ who has won us and seeks our help in bringing
the message of his kingdom to a hurting world. You will have a chance to give to a special offering to
enable scholarships to be given to worthy students and for other purposes as well. Please join me and your
Point Washington family at 8:45 or 11:00 AM this Sunday. It should be an inspiring occasion!
Among other chances to be involved in redemptive ways through this church in October, I call attention to
the packaging of food for hungry people which climaxes our STOP Hunger Now campaign that began
over a week ago and continues. On October 17, at 8AM, we gather to fix the packages for delivery. Until
then, we are being asked to contribute funds toward this effort. Our goal is $5800, which would enable us
to send 20,000 meals to the hungry through this worthy program. Learn more later in the newsletter and
through the weekly bulletins. Your contact person for more details is Christy Gibson.
So, off we go into October! Come journey with us. Take your part. Be re-energized as your faithfulness
takes the form of devotion to God and service to others. Blessings on all of you--
Spencer

PWUMC October 2015 Women’s Ministry News
The women of PWUMC returned from summer break with renewed enthusiasm and record partici-
pation at the September meeting, with twenty-three ladies attending. Over 100 reservations were made
for the second annual kickoff dinner featuring Lee Carter as she shared “The Seasons of a Woman’s
Faith” and challenged us to be a woman who fears the Lord and acknowledge and live under the au-
thority of His sovereignty. During the ‘meet and greet’ time, we also learned about the FIVE BIBLE
STUDIES offered this fall and had the difficult time of deciding which one to sign up for participa-
tion. More than a few ladies agreed that they all sounded so great that it was difficult to make a
choice. We are blessed to have great studies with talented presenters and more information is provided at the end of
this article.
In addition to feeding the soul, a delicious bountiful dinner was prepared by Stephanie Lauderdale who also in-
cluded coupons for a free salad scoop at her Pier Park Chicken Salad Chicks. The UMM were so gracious to serve
and clean up for us again this year. SO many gifted women devoted their time to make this event another success
that trying to name them all would be another newsletter article! Many thanks for all those who contributed their
time and talents.
Help us continue our servanthood spirit this month with attendance at the October 6th meeting at 9:30 am in the
Stephen Center as we make plans for helping with the upcoming
Trunk or Treat, the Angel Tree project and consider other project
ideas.

Terry Crouch. They also designed the dinner table
centerpieces which were given as door prizes.
The next monthly meeting of PWUMM will be OCTOBER 3, 2015 at 8 AM in the Ste-
phens Center. Come and join us for breakfast, devotion and a short business meeting.
We will continue to discuss the organization of our outreach focus programs and we
will have a special presentation by one of our senior youth, Lee Cox, who is organizing
a community mission project. This presentation was delayed one month but all is
ready now and it is exciting that the “bridge” between trying to increase the participa-
tion of younger men in our group may occur through the youth program. Let’s open
our minds and hearts to what we can do to support this effort. Chris Helms has already
made progress with Habitat for Humanity in engaging our youth to help with this very worthy
project.
The November meeting will be on the 7th so make your plans to attend. We will begin discussion of
up and coming UMM sponsored events and ALL are welcome to participate.
In Christ…..UNITED, Danny Powell, UMM President

participated in an Emmaus walk, please plan to attend our cluster meeting so as to further
your Emmaus experience and strengthen your conviction to the Lord Jesus Christ.
