Section 1. Executive Summary
The objective of the Post school Assignment is to review the IACS Unified requirements for New
Construction vessel and attempt to extend the IACS Common rules to cover the Machinery installation
onboard a general Cargo Ship of about 15,000 GT.
This is achieved by reviewing the Classification and statutory activities expected to be carried out during
the installation of Main engine, shafting and fitting of the Propeller. The subsequent testing and trails to
be carried out are also outlines.
The first step is the verification of the Shipyard quality management system (QMS) with the help of a
detailed checklist. Once the shipyard QMS is verified, the actual machinery inspection checklist is
followed in-order to systematically verify that the machinery installation meets the IACS Unified rules
and also the applicable statutory requirements.
After successful completion of the Shipyard QMS verification and Machinery installation survey (New
Build), Load line certificate and SAFCON Certificate are issued.
