GiverI am the wisest person
in my society because I have all the memories of the community, including joy, suffering, pain, love, and sadness. I have chosen Jonas to take my place, but these memories are too difficult for one person. Do I let Jonas see these memories, or should I keep them to myself? Should I ever allow someone to experience these memories?

Jonas
I am the main character, and my life has just been taken away. I am 12-years-old, yet I am now the receiver of memory. No one understands what I have to experience through these memories. My life has changed, and I didn’t ask for this. Why can’t I be like everyone else? I want to feel love, but this is too painful… How can I relate to my friends and family now that I know things they do not?

Only Jonas loves me and knows how to quiet my fears. He shows me memories, but I’m not sure what these memories mean. I enjoy them, though. I hope Jonas continues to show me these things because they take away my tears. Although it is wrong for Jonas to give memories away, should Jonas continue to show me his memories so that I can sleep?Back

CommunityWe are satisfied with where we are in life. We do not realize that life has more to offer. We have no emotions, and it doesn’t bother us. Why does Jonas continue to act so strangely? How can we control him and keep these memories away from us?
