A Message from the President
Jerry Chiat
Members of Paint and Powder,
I would like to thank you all for your support as President. I would
like to thank Bonnie for the great job of keeping the club moving for-
ward and her success with fundraising to help the two charities,
namely, The Maryland Conservatory of Music and The Maryland State
Boychoir. I look forward to getting into the ring again and going all 15 rounds. I hope I
won't need a cut man in my corner. Bonnie has started some changes that I intend to follow
through with. Along with that, the Future Planning Committee has made many suggestions
which will be unveiled at our next meeting at Joey Chiu's. Thanks to John Hergenroeder and
all who worked with the Planning Committee, and to the Board of Governors for their con-
tinued work. I am confident that all will be well. A special shout out to our Treasurer, Buzz
Warren for his diligence and record keeping. And thank you to Bill Moss for his great
newsletters.
Finally, thanks to all who labored hard to keep P&P moving forward. Keep up the great
work for this marvelous club!!!!!

Stuff about the 2018 show...
G reetings and hello to the cast and crew of
past Paint and Powder Club productions.
It is time to begin thinking about partici-
pating in the 2018 production, CINEMA SHTICK
scheduled on May 30, (a preview for Troop 740 and
residents of retirement communities) then, on June
1 and June 2, 2018 the main event, a social evening
filled with musical entertainment. After several
months of developing ideas, redeveloping ideas,
throwing out ideas, retrieving ideas and coming to
this juncture in the process, the 2018 P&P show is
almost set.
This year’s show, CINEMA SHTICK, a musical
movie revue ! is sure to be another crowd
pleaser. From the opening number, Just Go To
The Movies through the finale, Happy End-
ings, this show is filled with the unexpected, high
energy, and diverse entertainment which will be fun
and enjoyable for everyone. The costume commit-
tee has met and are planning their work for this
production. Betsie Johnson. Francene Siegel, Toni
Rosenblatt and Marlene Cowan have started the
development of costume and accessory needs based
on the preliminary ideas. Carl Zambon and Deb
Wilson have purchased the marque lights and the
set designs for the lobby and the stage are in their
infancy. Harriette Clark has been invaluable in help-
ing me solidify the shtick bits for the production.
The musical and dance routines are forming during
this gestation period and should be fully ready with-
in the next seven months.
By utilizing different movie genre, the creative team
has sketched a vast amount of material from which
to choose. This will not be your typical movie revue
whereby performers sing song after song from their
favorite movies. Instead, the audience will experi-
ence the unexpected shtick of film noir movies,
shticky twists for Disney movies, those mustached
cowboys of the Golden West, twisted shtick from
those gangster movies and a moment or two of
cultural shtick from the Marx brothers. For those
of you who do not know the Marx Brothers, check
them out on you tube.
The auditions are tentatively scheduled on Wednes-
day March 27, 2018 at Pickersgill Retirement Com-
munity. Rehearsals will begin on Monday, April 2,
2018.
We need your help to reach a goal of 500 tickets
for each performance. Begin promoting the show
now. Tell your friends, family members (over 16
years old) and acquaintances who have a modicum
of talent to join us for a fun ride this Spring!
Start talking now to everyone you know to let them
know that this production will be a most enjoyable,
entertaining and amusing evening. This is also an
excellent way to support two
worthy not-for profit organiza-
tions in our area, build support
for the Club and enjoy the
comradery of your Paint and
Powder friends again.
This year, we hope to have
several students vying for the
scholarship award. Help by urging and promoting
talented high school and college students to partici-
pate in this program.
In addition, begin talking about the advertising op-
portunities with your doctor, dentist, lawyer, auto
service center manager/owner, grounds company
owner, restaurant proprietor and any other person
with whom you have a personal and business rela-
tionship. Encourage these folks to buy an ad or tick-
et(s) for the show.
We are going back to the Scottish Rite Temple,
3088 North Charles Street, for CINEMA SHTICK, a musical movie revue !
It’s time to HAVE ANOTHER!
If you have questions or want more information
about the show, contact Rod Clark, Production
Director, at 443-474-7446 or

A former student from

I started the PTA Fundraiser

the shows for two years.
After I left Chicago, the
Show Time Revue continued
for 15 years. The net for the
two years I directed these
production was $5,000
each year. Not too bad
for 1967.
During my years in Chi-

Director of Student Af-

“ I don’t recall how the subject of our anniversary came up at a re-
cent party at Bernie’s place in Ocean City, but I must have had too
many drinks when I told Geri it would be our 62nd. Later, Doris re-
minded me it would be our 61st. But if you still want to put a little story in
the newsletter, attached are a photo taken around 1990, 2 early photos
and our little drama of how we got married and our lifetime adventures..”

thanks for reading. you’re definitely a better person now...
Jean Jones had her surgery June 22nd. They removed
the right lower lobe of her lung. She is trying to get her
breathing capacity back. Lymph nodes were sent out for
a more thorough biopsy.
Bob, Jean’s significant other, had a hip replacement and will soon be using a
cane rather than a walker.
Al Long was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital on July 25th. A pacemaker was
implanted and he is doing well. Al is in good spirits and is recuperating.
John Siegel, Francene's husband, had a pacemaker implanted. They hope this
might decrease the need for blood thinners. John is feeling just fine.
Trisha Webster (says) I had skin cancer removed from under my left eye. The
surgery uncovered a malignant tumor that was removed as well. Achieved clear
margins. Sewed my eye closed, patched things up and sent me home. Doing
well. Post script: I’m all healed and doing well.
Robert F. Wilson, former member of the Club, died on August 15, 2017 at
age 91. Robert goes back some years with Paint and Powder as a trumpet
player. Robert was also a past Potentate of the Shrine.
