1.1.1. Approved TyresCertain Championships define the permittedtyres, and competitors are recommended tocheck the requirements in event andchampionship regulations. Only approved tyresmay be used for Formula Ford and F3 cars.Details are contained in the Regulations issuedby the organisation concerned.
1.1.2. Production TyresThe tyres in Lists IA are regarded by the tyremanufacturer as Standard Road Tyres. Theymay have wear bars moulded into the tread at1.6mm remaining pattern depth. These are setat six positions around the circumference ofthe tyre and extend across the width of thetyre. If any of the wear bars are flush (level) withthe tread surface at pre-event scrutineering thevehicle will be rejected and not allowed tocompete.
Tyres with sidewall markings removed will beprohibited in all events unless they are correctlymarked ‘Retread’ or ‘Remould’.PRODUCTION SALOON CAR RACING/PRODUCTION SPORTS CAR RACINGFor these formulae only standard road tyres inList IA are permitted and these to rim and tyresizes as laid down for specific car models onProduction Car Specification Sheets.
All tyres to carry EEC 30 ‘E’ mark. Witheffect 1.7.97 it became illegal for anyone tosupply new or part-worn tyres that are non ‘E’or ‘e’ marked tyres for public highway use (iemarked in accordance with requirements ofEEC Regulation 30, 30.1, 30.2 or EC Directive92/23). This includes VR and ZR (previouslyexempt). All new and part-worn road legaltyres supplied as from 1.7.97 must be ‘E’ or ‘e’marked.
Some tyres in list 1 A & B may haveadditional sidewall markings denoting specificfitment at OE. These markings may be in thevicinity of the range name or following the sizedesignation (example: NO,MO,*). Such tyreswith additional markings are accepted asequivalent to tyres designated in List 1A & B.1.1.3. Tyres marked with an asterisk in Lists IAand 1B may be removed from the lists w.e.f.31.12.06. (Details in official bulletins.)1.1.4. Additional tyres may be added to thelists after the deadline for printing. (Details inofficial bulletins.)1.1.5. When run-flat tyres are used, tyrepressure monitoring devices should be used.Run-flat variants of tyres listed in 1A arepermitted.
2. TYRE TREAD ON SPECIAL STAGES2.1. For Rallies, all tyres used on the PublicHighway must comply with the relevant MotorVehicle Construction and Use Regulations, inaddition to dimensions laid down in K 37.5.3(Stage Rallies). It is the competitor’sresponsibility to ensure that only moulded tyresare used at all times.
2.2. Definition of moulded tyres. A mouldedtyre is defined as one having a tread patternwith a width of 170mm (85mm each side ofthe tyre centre line) and a circumference of140mm. In this area, the surface taken up bythe grooves at least 5.5mm deep and 2mmwide must occupy at least 17% of the total.This tread pattern must be moulded. The sumof the width of the grooves encountered by acircumferential line in the area described abovemust be at least 4mm. The sum of the width ofthe grooves encountered by a radial line mustbe at least 16mm. The bridge blocks and sipesmust be considered as part of the treadpattern if they are less than 2mm.
Hand cutting is permitted but only forthe purpose of introducing additional groovesno deeper than those moulded into a newtyre. Hand cutting in order to increase thedepth of existing moulded grooves isprohibited.
At all times during an event the tread depthmust not be less than 1.6mm over at leastthree quarters of the tread pattern.2.3. FIA homologated tyres are recommendedfor Stage Rallies. All tyres contained in Lists 1Aand 1B are automatically authorised for allrallies. Please bear in mind that road legal List1A tyres and some specialist motor sport tyresmay not have strengthened sidewalls morenormally used in the construction of tyres inList 1B and rally tyres homologated by the FIA.2.4. Tyres marked ‘For Racing Purposes Only’are prohibited on Rallies.
