DEFINITION
Concrete polymermaterials may be defined as
concrete with or without Portland Cement to which has
been added, either in the hardened state or to fresh
concrete during mixing, a chemical system subsequentlypolymerized. The chemical system is generally a liquid

CONCLUSIONS
THE POLYMER CONCRETE IS REFERRED AS THE CONSTRUCTION MATERIAL OF XXI CENTURY OWING TO
THEIR OUTSANDING PERFORMANCE . RESEARCH CARRIED OUT COOPERATIVELY SINCE 1966 BY THE BUREAU
OF RECLAMATION AND THE FORMER OFFICE OF SALINE WATER, THE BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY,
AND THE ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION HAS INDICATED THAT IMPREGNATION AND POLYMERIZATION
PROCESSES HAVE INDUCED SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVED STRUCTURAL AND DURABILITY PROPERTIES IN
POLYMER-IMPREGNATED CONCRETE FORMED AS COMPARED TO THE CONVENTIONAL CONCRETE.
THE MAXIMUM INCREASE IN STRENGTH IS UPTO ALMOST FOUR TIMES HAVE BEEN OBTAINED
WATER PERMEABILITY HAS BEEN REDUCED TO NEGLIGIBLE VALUES AND WATER ABSORPTION HAS BEEN
DECREASED BY AS MUCH AS 95 PERCENT.
FREEZE-THAW RESISTANCEHAS BEEN GREATLY IMPROVED, AS HAS CORROSION RESISTANCE TO DISTILLED
WATER, SULPHATE SOLUTION, AND ACID
OWING TO THE PROPERTY OF POLYMER CONCRETE TO APPEAR AS NATURAL STONE BUT DEVOID OF
HEAVINESS AND EASY CONSTRUCTION , IT IS EXTENSIVELY USED FOR BEAUTIFICATION WORKS LIKE PAVING
SLABS, TEXTURED BRICKWORK, FLOOR TILES, GARDEN FURNITURE AND OTHER MODERN CONSTRUCTIONS.
