2. Expectations from the Practical Training Hosting Institution.
The Department of Commerce expects the practical training hosting institution to have an organizedprogram of supervised learning and work that exposes the students undergoing the practical training
to the business policies, practices, and procedures, and also the manner in which success of a
business is influenced by them. Undertaking business research, collecting and analysing data, reportwriting, organizing and implementing various business activities and events, attending and
conducting meetings and seminars, supplemented by hands-on experience in routine activities of theorganization may help to a great deal in providing a broad view and experience in the working of
present day organizations and achieving goals of practical training program.
The university appreciate that there are some routine or clerical work involved in many such
practical training experiences. However, the department humbly requests at least eighty percent ofpractical training time of the students be organized in and around activities encompassing above
mentioned work and managerial experience.
If necessary, the hosting organization could recommend relevant books, references or readingmaterials to the student that will enhance and be an additional value to practical training experience.
The Department of Commerce requests the practical training hosting organization to endorse the midsemester program report of the student half way through the semester and to complete theEmployers evaluation of student form at the end of the semester. These reports must be submitted
to the department within one week from the respective date and it is the responsibility of the studentto ensure that these reports are received by the department before the specific deadlines. Moreover,
the department anticipates the training supervisor to endorse the accuracy of details entered in thePractical Training Record Book by the student.
3. Other Considerations
The department requires the students undertaking practical training experience to be professional intheir work and responsible in their conduct. Students must endeavour to maintain the good image ofthe department and the university at the respective organizations. Practical training opportunities for
prospective students by and large will depend on performance, behaviour and conduct of the currentstudents undergoing the training. The Department of Commerce looks forward to comments,
recommendations and suggestions for improvements from the practical training hosting institutionswith regard to the practical training program conducted for the B.Com (special) degree students.Practical training programme is not a job arranged by the department, although an honorarium in the
form of an allowance may be paid to the students towards transport and incidental expenses.
II. PROCEDURE FOR REGISTERING FOR PRACTICAL TRAINING PROGRAM
Practical training program has been introduced to the program curriculum of the B.Com (special)degree to provide to real life working experience with a view to reduce waiting time for employment
following the graduation and to ease the difficulty the graduates might face in applying what theyhave learnt and experimented during the study program. As such, it represents circumstances beyondthe theoretical of knowledge acquired through activities performed in the classroom. Undoubtedly
