A Prayer Model

Based on this prayer framework – the following is offered as a

consideration for praying: ‘ACTS’

A – Adoration – Acknowledgement, declaration, and

exaltation of The Great God we are praying to.

C – Confession – Confession of our sins – repentance. We

should always come before Jesus with brokenness,

contrition & repentance.

T – Thanksgiving – Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving

and into His Courts with Praise.

S – Supplication – Pray for the needs of others and

ourselves. 4

The Power of Prayer

• The Power of Prayer is defined by who we are praying to:

How do I tap into it? –

• In Faith

• With Persistence

• With Thanksgiving

• With The Right Heart (Soil)

The Results of Prayer –

• He answers according to His Will

The Power of Prayer – Praying in Faith

James 1:6 – 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he

that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and

tossed.

1. Praying in Faith begins with the person that prays.

2. We must be transparent and truthful in our prayer.

3. We are to believe that whatever we ask in prayer is

according to His Will.

4. The Power of Prayer is in The One to whom we pray. We

envelope our prayer in The Name of Jesus.

5. Praying to Him is a principal conduit / connection to His

Power & His Will.

Praying in Faith – Praying with Persistence

As we transition from Praying In Faith to Praying with

Persistence – it is needful to explore:

Praying in The Spirit vs Praying with The Spirit

PRAYING WITH THE SPIRIT

1 Corinthians 14:14-1514 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my

understanding is unfruitful.15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with

the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing

with the understanding also.

Praying in Faith – Praying with Persistence

This passage establishes that praying in tongues is Praying

With The Spirit. The Spirit is actually transacting the prayer.

The person is just the host. The prayer originates from the

person, but the acting occurs in The Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:26-27 –26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know

not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself

maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be

uttered.27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of

the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according

to the will of God.

PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT

Ephesians 6:1818 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,

and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for

all saints;

Jude 2020 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith,

praying in the Holy Ghost,

Praying in Faith – Praying with Persistence

PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT

Praying in The Spirit means that the person is praying

according to The Will of God.

When we pray sincerely and wholeheartedly – according to The

Will of God – in tongues or not – we are Praying in The Spirit.

1 John 5:14-1514 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask

any thing according to his will, he heareth us:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know

that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Page 12: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

12

Praying in Faith – Praying with Persistence

Example: If we are SINCERELY praying for souls to be saved –

we are praying in The Spirit (in accordance with The Will of

The Spirit / God / Jesus)

When prayed with sincerity & wholeheartedly – both are

equally effective.

2 Chronicles 7:14 – 14 If my people, which are called by my

name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and

turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and

will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

James 5:16 – 16 The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man

availeth much.

The Power of Persistent Prayer

Luke 18: 1-8 – 1And he spake a parable unto them to this end,

that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 2 Saying, There

was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded

man: 3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto

him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. 4 And he would not

for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear

not God, nor regard man; 5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I

will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. 6 And

the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. 7 And shall not

God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him,

though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge

them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he

find faith on the earth?

Page 14: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

14

The Power of Persistent Prayer

The parable of the widow’s persistence is introduced as a

parable about prayer – then moves to a story about justice –

and ends with a question of faith.

It begins with the introduction of the judge who neither fears

God nor respects people. The un-respected people here are

represented by a widow whose relentlessness is so bothersome

to the judge that she ends up receiving the justice she demands.

The un-feared God will, by the end of the parable, overrule the

judge who does not fear Him.

Proverbs 21:1 – The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as

the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Page 15: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

15

The Power of Persistent Prayer

In this parable, we have a persistent widow – poor & powerless

– who is prevailing before a corrupt judge for justice in her

case. In this parable the focus of Jesus is that we should pray

always and not lose heart. He identifies us with the widow and

the prayed to person – (God) – with the corrupt judge. What a

strange analogy. The point Jesus is making is that:

• If persistence pays off with a corrupt human of

limited power – how much more will it pay off

with a Just, Merciful and Gracious God of infinite

and unlimited power!!!

Through this parable, Jesus is encouraging His children to

persevere against all odds. We see in the result, The

Sovereignty of Jesus in delivering the widows request – even

through a corrupt judge.

Page 16: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

16

The Power of Persistent Prayer

Jesus didn’t give us this parable so that we might be inspired by

the example of an underdog (the widow) who never quits, but

rather so that we might get a grander understanding of our

Gracious Heavenly Father who – in contrast to the corrupt /

unjust judge – supremely cares for His children. Look at Jesus’

conclusion:

Luke 18:6-8 – 6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge

saith. 7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day

and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you

that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of

man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Page 17: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

17

The Power of Persistent Prayer

Now comes the part of this parable that is often times

problematic –

• Some take away from the parable that we should petition

God for things we want – and if we annoy Him enough

(wear Him Down) He will give in and give it to us.

• This totally untrue!!! We will NEVER get Jesus to do

what is NOT HIS WILL.

* God NEVER follows man. Man ALWAYS follows God. *

• In this parable Jesus is saying to us to be persistent in

praying – persevering with patience, knowing He hears

us when we pray ACCORDING TO HIS WILL. Jesus

knows what we need even before we ask – yet He

instructs us to consistently prevail unto Him. Why??

There must be a purpose!!

Page 18: PRAYING EFFECTIVELY

18

The Power of Persistent Prayer

• This consistent, perseverance builds and transforms our

relationship with Jesus. We develop in patience, waiting

on Jesus – listening for and to Jesus – golden silence in

His presence.

• Persistent Prayer develops our unique communication

style with Jesus – we learn His voice as we patiently

persevere in his presence.

• Prayer & Meditation becomes a two-way avenue of

communication between us & Jesus.

• We wait patiently on Jesus!

OH, WHAT SWEET COMMUNION!

ALONE WITH GODBy Johnson Oatman, Jr.

When storms of life are

round me beating,

When rough the path that

I have trod,

Within my closet door retreating,

I love to be alone with God.

Refrain:

Alone with God, the world forbidden,

Alone with God, O blest retreat!

Alone with God, and in Him hidden,

To hold with Him communion sweet.
