With an ever-changing world and competitive 21st century workforce, today’s students need a solid K–12 education to be fully prepared for their futures.

The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) were drafted to provide a strong science education that improves student achievement through critical thinking, personalized learning, and practice. By learning to think like scientists and engage in scientific practices, students will develop and apply the 21st century skills they’ll need for success in college and careers.

The National Research Council’s Next Generation Science Standards will define key science concepts that every American student should learn, beginning in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Comprised of three Dimensions—Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas—the NGSS promote a view of science as both a body of knowledge and an evidence-based, model- and theory-building initiative that continually extends, refines, and revises knowledge.

To successfully implement the NGSS in your school, you’ll need trusted instructional materials fully correlated to the NGSS, as well as best-in-class professional development to help teachers adapt to this major shift in science education.
