CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS
Symposium by the Sea’s Simulation Competition -- SIM Wars -- allows teams of emergency medicine (EM) providers to compete against each other using high fidelity simulation technology. Each team may be comprised of EM residents, attendings, nursing and/or ancillary staff. Teams are presented with an unknown acute emergency clinical scenario and are required to demonstrate their skill and ability to rapidly stabilize, diagnose and manage critically ill patients – including performing major procedures, using up to date simulation technology. Teams are judged by selected faculty from across the state, on the basis of teamwork, communication and decision making.
The residents competing in the EM Residency Case Presentation Competition will review a series of cases involving common complaints among patients presenting to the Emergency Department. These case presentations focus on common physical findings of unusual diseases. Emphasis is directed to the development of an appropriate differential diagnosis through sound clinical reasoning.

This year’s poster session will be open to medical students, emergency medicine residents, emergency medicine fellows, faculty and any practicing physician in the State of Florida.
