Principal’s Note Education Week Thank you to all the parents/carers, grandparents and community members who visited the school and eagerly participated in the Education Week activities. The students thoroughly enjoyed your involvement and the sharing of their work. Open morning on Tuesday was a great opportunity for us to acknowledge and celebrate Preston West Primary School and the great programs we have on offer. Staff work conscientiously to provide engaging and challenging classroom programs and learning is tailored to ensure individuals strive towards achieving their full academic potential. When walking through the school each day the fantastic culture is evident. Our students strive to achieve their full potential in a safe and orderly learning environment where success, high expectation, persistence and confidence is paramount. We are fortunate to have an active parent community, who contribute across a wide variety of forums at the school and we thank them for their commitment, time and ongoing support. All in all as a community we have a great deal to be proud of at Preston West Primary School.

Waratah Bay Camp The Grade 6 Waratah Bay campers are having a fabulous time. The staff and students are thoroughly enjoying and appreciating their experiences and from our daily reports, all is going exceptionally well. Over the four days their proposed program includes camp based activities - giant swing, bouldering wall, ropes course, initiatives course, team building activities, totem pole challenge, orienteering and camp cooking, time at the beach and a historical walk. The staff and students are sure to be exhausted after their week and I am looking forward to hearing their stories.

Education Week – Kinder Students Visit On Thursday 29th May between 9.30 – 10.45am we are inviting kinder students to experience school life at

The Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge (VPRC) has now commenced at PWPS!

The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 6 September 2019.

Children in Grades Prep to Grade 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’, 30 books (20 must be from the challenge book list).

Children in Grades 3 to 10 are challenged to read 15 books, (10 must be from the challenge book list).

To read the Premier’s letter, book lists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers. There will also be 7 lucky PWPS students who can win a ‘challenge prize’, so start reading!

The challenge closes on Friday the 6th September. All registered students will need to have finished

reading their required number of books.

Please send a copy of the completed book list back to school no later than Friday the 30th of August for

the books to be verified. If you wish to participate in the challenge, please complete the VPRC participation form and return it to the school in order to receive your login details. The form has been added to Compass under School Documentation.

Happy Reading!
