Commuting Accidents Prevention at BSH
Mr. Soichiro Honda

From this fundamental Safety
Concept we create training flow that
reflect No “afety; No Productio concept into our new intake training.

Induction Training for New Intake
Before the new intake starts to learn
about new job, he must first get
safety riding training because if he
cannot present himself safely at work
– there will be no production (work)
for him to perform on that day.
We made safety
riding training a
compulsory
induction training all
new intakes must
attend before
starting to learn

100% of our staff trained for
Basic Safety Riding Course
But the result was not so
encouraging
We have to look for another
way to reduce it
We brainstormed & came
up with adapting KYT
(Hazard Prediction Training)
method, focusing in group
participation. We conducts
workshop style training. We
use simulation and
discussion and let the
participants present their
idea.
KYT (Hazard Prediction) Training for BSH Started in April 2014,
Workshop style, instructor becomes facilitator,
After given road & traffic condition (video & photo) - groups discuss potential
hazard and how to prevent or avoid accident,
Simulator riding – and discussion on the mistakes & potential ways to avoid it.

Focused KYT Training
Focused KYT Training
• Focused KYT Training gave us
clear picture of mistakes that
have been done in previous
road accident cases.
• We created simulation/
training based on previous
statistics and the trainees learn
to predict hazard and avoid it.
Focused KYT Safety Riding Training
Focused KYT Safety Riding Training is an improved version of the original KYT Training.
Original KYT Training
• Syllabus created based on
pattern/trend of accident
statistic provided by PDRM &
MIROS.
• This is consider as general
training due to bigger
population involved.
Focused KYT Training
• Syllabus created based on
pattern/trend of accident
statistic of our own BSH staffs.
• This is consider as focused
training because it is based on
actual and smaller population
of BSH staff.
*The pattern/trend of accident (Statistics): Location, collision pattern, hit with what, road condition,
weather condition, speed during accident, injury type, age, day/night, shift pattern, etc, etc.
BEFORE AFTER EFFECT
Conclusion
As responsible
employers, we must
ensure our
employees are given
proper trainings &
exposure on safety
& defensive riding
skills.
Theory Training for skills,
awareness & behavioral
change
Practical Training for technical hands-on
skills
Simulator Training for enhancing
hazard prediction skills
We must strive to upgrade and continuously
improve the training syllabus to cater the fast
changing road safety needs of our commuting
employees.
