1 Conference Venue
Singapore is a vibrant city state with
many activities all year round.
Singapore is named as a garden city
with its beautiful city landscape and it
also boosts many world class
development and infrastructures.
Singapore can be seen as the gateway
to Asia where the convergence of
ideas, technologies and people meet.
Many conferences, seminars and major international events are held in Singapore.
There are direct flights to Singapore from major cities in Europe, USA, Australia and
Asia.
1.1 SUNTEC Singapore – Asia’s Convention City
SUNTEC Singapore is the proposed venue for the FUSION 2012 Conference where
it is located at the heart of Asia’s Convention City. Iconic Singapore attractions such
as the Merlion, the Esplanade and the Singapore Flyer are within a 15-minute walk
away from SUNTEC. SUNTEC Singapore is also directly accessible to 3 nearby
hotels (Marina Mandarin, Pan Pacific and Conrad) which are within a 5-minute walk.
Around SUNTEC premise there are also over 1000 shops and 300 restaurants.
SUNTEC Singapore is a record holder many times over. Purposefully-designed for
international events, SUNTEC has four exhibition halls, three ballrooms, a theatre,
and over 30 meeting rooms spread across four storey. Its Level 6 offers the largest
column-free meeting area in Asia, spanning 12,000 square metres of total floor
space.

1.2 Transportation
1.2.1 Accessibility around Singapore from SUNTEC Singapore
The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit (SMRT) system is probably the fastest way to get
around Singapore besides taxis. Besides being one of the cleanest transport systems
in the world, the SMRT provides scenic views of our heartland and city areas, with
great access to almost every part of Singapore. With the newly opened Circle Line
servicing 30 stations, visitors will be able to shorten their travelling time and walking
distance to their destinations. SUNTEC Singapore will be in close proximity with 2 of
the new stations namely Promenade and Esplanade which will grant further
accessibility and convenience to the participants of the conference. You can
download the train route map from www.smrt.com.sg and use it to navigate your way
around our island city.
There are also many bus services directly outside SUNTEC Singapore such as 36,
97, 106, 111, 133, 501, 502, 518, 857 and 700. These bus routes cover many parts
of Singapore which enhance the accessibility of SUNTEC Singapore around
Singapore.
Not to mention, taxis are readily available at the Taxi Stands outside SUNTEC
Singapore which can bring you to your destination conveniently and efficiently at
affordable rates.
With this efficient transport network, you could visit places like Marina Bay Sands,
Orchard Road, Mustafa Centre, Bugis Street, Chinatown, Little India, Kampong
Glam, Lau Pa Sat, Clarke Quay & Riverside Point as well as most of the museums
within 5 train stations!

Alternatively, places like the Merlion, Singapore Flyer, Esplanade, Fountain Terrace,
Sky Garden, Millenia Walk, Raffles City Mall and Marina Square are within 10 to 15
minutes walk from SUNTEC Singapore.
Now you can discover more of the rich cultural heritage of Singapore, shop in a
Shopping Paradise and enjoy the sumptuous spread of local delights and
international cuisines in this Food Paradise – in a breeze!

1.3 Conference Dinner
Cruise along the Singapore River followed by Conference Dinner
Dinner Venue
Located along the Singapore River and just outside of
the bustle of the city, the elegant Grand Copthorne
Waterfront Singapore offers luxurious accommodation
with excellent hospitality.
Pre-dinner Cocktail & Dinner will be held at the Grand
Ballroom. Its distinguishing feature is the large,
elegant glass wall that showers the ballroom with
natural tropical light, through which one can view an
exquisite landscaped garden and gazebo.
Enjoy a scenic ride along the river that holds so much
history and memories for Singapore
Quite relaxing, especially after sunset. Just sit back and
absorb the cool breeze. Brightly light sky-scrappers that
tower over the river, historical monuments regally positioned,
adding grandeur and age-old charm to the area and of
course, the beautiful evening sky sprinkled with stars.
There are many bridges in Singapore and the river taxi ride is a good way to
see the bridges. Have a good view of the Merlion Park (and understand why it is
so popular with tourists), as well as the beautiful sights of the Fullerton and
Clark Quay, before disembarking at the conference dinner venue.
FUSION 2012 @SINGAPORE
7
2 Conference Dates
The proposed conference dates is from July 09-12, 2012 (tentative subjected to ISIF
board recommendation). It is observe that out of the past 13 FUSION conferences, 8
of these are held during the second week of July.
Singapore is located near the equator. The average temperature is about 30 - 32
degree Celsius, and most of the time (year round) there is sunshine. The rainy
months are usually at the end of the year (Nov, Dec, early Jan months).
From the evaluation of the dates of past Fusion Conferences and the climate in
Singapore, this justifies the feasibility for the FUSION 2012 conference to be held in
Singapore from July 09-12, 2012.
In addition, during this period of time, there are no major events in Singapore to clash
with FUSION 2012, and hence the delegates would be able to book hotel rooms and
transportation easily. Also, usually there would be no major conferences during this
period of time that would conflict with FUSION 2012.

4 Financial Arrangement
4.1 Potential Support
Singapore Exhibition & Convention Bureau has a tourism development scheme
termed the “Be in Singapore” Scheme that supports meetings held in Singapore.
To qualify, the meeting must realize 400 room nights minimum (e.g. 3 day
meeting = 2 room nights and attended by 200 foreign participants. These
exclude companions/spouses). The support is in the form of a financial grant and
on a reimbursement basis based on actual/audited expense report.
An application for support will have to be made at least six months before
conference commencement and only expenses incurred during the specified
qualifying period will be supported. The conference has to be implemented in
accordance with the application and such other specifications as the STB may
require or otherwise approve. Any changes in the conference parameters must
be approved by STB in writing.
The organization team has managed to get IEEE (Singapore) Control Systems
Chapter to be a technical co-sponsor for FUSION 2012. ISIF and IEEE
(Singapore) Control Systems Chapter will share both profit and risk equally.
The committee would also actively look out for possible industrial sponsorship.
4.2 Risk and Profit
The proposed registration fees (subjected to changes based on exchange rates and
currency fluctuation) are shown based on the preliminary budget. Details of the
preliminary budgets for conference and tutorials are given separately in Annex A and

to one of the greatest eras in history: It is here that the tale
of maritime adventurers, sea pirates, and the growth of sea
trade between Asia, the Middle East and Europe is told.
The museum's centerpiece is a huge 360-degree multimedia
theatre, where visitors "board" an Arabia-bound sailing ship
docked near Singapore 1,100 years ago. Laden with cargo,
the ship runs into a storm. The sea roars, the skies darken
and the ship rolls, pitches and turns. Lights dim as the
vessel sinks, with "passengers" also experiencing that
sinking feeling as the theatre floor descends. When the
lights finally come on, the passengers find themselves in the
depths of the ocean, up close with the shipwreck and
magnificent marine life.

Lau Pa Sat (or “old market” in the Hokkien dialect) was
Singapore's first wet market that dates back over 150

famous gourmet paradise and has been gazetted as a
national monument since 1973. Time has not changed
Singaporeans’ national obsession with street food, our
love for the colourful cultures and cuisines that are its
foundation: regional variations of Malay, Chinese, Indian
and Nonya eats, as well as Western fare like chicken
cutlets and chips, and unique flourishes like local coffee
and tea – brewed in a muslin filter.

restaurants, hospitable accommodation and good transportation.
The city's skyline is rapidly changing and presently boasts of the
world's tallest building, the magnificent Petronas Twin Towers.

of interesting streets, mosques, temples and fascinating shops. The mountain
retreats of Cameron Highlands, Fraser's Hill and Genting Highlands are cool and
peaceful. The island of Tioman, Redang, Perhentian, Pangkor and Langkawi provide

Cambodia is at the frontier of tourism. It has a rich
culture dating back many centuries when the
Angkor Civilitation was the region's most
developed. The 9th century Angkorian temples
have intrigued archaeologists and fascinated
tourists since being rediscovered in 1860. They
remain one of the world's great ancient wonders
and the jewel of them all, Angkor Wat, is the
world's largest religious monument.

Variety is indeed the spice of life in Thailand. From the
golden-spired temples of Bangkok to the majestic ruins of
ancient capitals, from the tranquil charm of rural towns to
the excitement of tropical beach resorts, there is no
shortage of choice. No matter how many times you've
visited before, there is always something fresh to discover.
Not only are the attractions rich and varied, there is also a style of holiday to suit all
preferences. If, for example, all the fun and thrills of Pattaya beach resort is too
much, there are the quieter seaside pleasures of Hua Hin and Cha-am, or the island
resorts of Phuket and Ko Samui. Alternatively, if culture is the draw, numerous
annual festivals are celebrated in traditional style and highlight enduring customs and
beliefs. Special interest activities are another options; for example, anyone can sign
up to study Buddhist meditation at a temple or to learn the art of Thai cooking from
an expert chef at a five-star hotel.
