Facts of Bali
Size of The Island 5632 square kilometers. Population 3 millions Time Zone Greenwich Meantime plus 8 hours. In Indonesia it is called Central Indonesia Time (WITA) Economy Bali’s economy is basically based on agriculture; rice is the most important crop. Other major agricultural crops are vanilla, copra, clove, corn, and tropical fruits, such as mango, orange, banana, and zalakka fruit.
Udayana University Profile 2008
Cost of living The cost of living in Bali varies depending on in which area you live and what kind of lifestyle you maintain. It is projected that students need a minimum of Rp.2,500,000 per month to cover housing, transport, food and clothes. Accommodation There are several types of accommodation available for students. These include on-campus accommodation, independent accommodations (housing and flat) and guesthouses. On-campus accommodation provides shared facilities and gives an opportunity for students to live closely with others. Independent accommodation allows freedom for the students. Students have found that shared accommodation is the cheapest way of living. Most students cannot afford to rent on their own so they choose to share with two or more others. Guesthouses are designed for short-term stays.
Travel and transport
Bali has an international airport, Ngurah Rai Airport, which is located about 20 minutes drive to the south of Denpasar or 10 minutes from Bukit Jimbaran Campus. Maintaining a car can be expensive; therefore many students rely on motorcycles or public transport systems. A basic used motorcycle can be purchased around Rp. 7 – 9 millions or a rented motorcycle at around Rp. 50.000 – 100.000 per day.
Climate Average temperature varies between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius. The dry season comes between May and August, whereas the wet season comes between September and April.
