STRATEGY 1: TRIAGE
1. Work through easy /manageable questions first
2. Work through doable but time-consuming questions second
3. Tackle hard questions last
Pick letter of the day for the questions that you are not able to workthrough.
STRATEGY 2: Read Actively
Ask questions and take notes as you go. Circle Keywords. Underline phrases.
Take notes on these specific things: the author's point of view and tone and purpose the passage.
STRATEGY 3: Predict before you peek
STRATEGY 4: Prepare for Paired passages
There will be exactly one set of Paired Passages on the PSAT Reading Test. These passages will be either History/Social Studies passages or Science passages.
STRATEGY 5: Identify the Issue
Questions are embedded in the text, so answer questions as you read
Numbers = questions go look at question, then read as far as needed to answer
STRATEGY 6: Prepare for Infographics!
These readings can include infographics pictorial data
- circle parts of infographic that relate to Q
- identify units of measurement, labels, and titles
- note trends
STRATEGY 7: Use your calculator wisely
THINK before using calculator you often do NOT need it!

What is the actual question?
How do the answer choices differ?
Do I need to label or draw diagram?
