1. Chris has only just started to
text Megan, should she send
him a ‘selfie’?
a. Yes, as Chris
only wants to see a
picture of Megan,
there’s nothing
wrong with that.
b. No, because
Chris will show
his friends and
everyone will
make fun of her.
c. No, because she
does not yet know
that she can trust
him.
2. Why do you think Shannon
asks, “Why would you send a
‘selfie’?”
a. There’s nothing
wrong with sending
a ‘selfie’, she is too
cautious.
b. Shannon
doesn’t know if
Megan can trust
Chris.
c. Chris wasn’t
being nasty,
Shannon is no fun.
3. Megan could ask her Mum
for advice. Instead she tells her
to get out of her room. What’s
going on?
a. Megan doesn’t
need advice, it’s
easy to make the
right decision in a
situation like this.
b. This is a
missed
opportunity, her
Mum might
have some ideas
that Megan
hasn’t thought
about.
c. Megan thinks her
Mum won’t
understand.
4. Chris’s mate, Jamie, says,
“Ask her to send a selfie, if she
likes you she’ll send one”. Is
he behaving like a good friend?
a. Its only a text, it
doesn’t matter what
he says.
b. Yes, girls
should always
send pictures
whenever boys
ask.
c. He is putting
Chris under
pressure, though he
may not have
thought about that.

Think about the words on the right hand side of the page and work out which words can
best be used to describe the behaviour of Lucy, who posted rude comments about
Shanelle.
Word Definition
Harassment Ongoing behaviour that purposely disturbs or
upsets someone.
Cyber-stalking The use of the internet or mobile to upset or
frighten someone.
Exclusion Deliberately not including someone in an
online group.
Trolling Trolling is when a user deliberately causes
distress, anger or argument in an online public
forum to disturb other users.
Cyber-bullying The use of electronic communication to bully
a person, typically by sending messages that
threaten or frighten.
Flaming Posting or sending offensive messages. These
messages, called “flames”, include bad
language or obscene content. Flaming, also
known as “flame wars” mostly occurs in chat
rooms and forums.
Friending Sending an invitation (or “friend request”) to
someone in order to become an online “friend”
on Facebook or other social media site.
Selfie A photograph that a person takes of
themselves using a smartphone or webcam and
shared using social media.
Threat A person saying they intend to cause pain,
injury, or other unfriendly action on someone.
Blocking Stopping another person from communicating
with you online. Most social media sites allow
you to “block” users, this stops people from
messaging you and you will no longer be able
to see any posts or messages from that person.
Offender The person (or bully) who starts the cyber-
bullying.

1. Should Shanelle’s friend,
Paige, be encouraging her to
send a nasty message back to
her friend online?
a. Yes, Paige is
right; everyone will
start bullying her if
she doesn’t stick up
for herself.
b. No, because
it will only
make things
worse.
c. Yes, because she
started it.
2. Shanelle’s friend made
nasty comments online for
everyone to see. Is this wrong?
a. No, as she was
only joking and it
is Shanelle’s fault
for taking it too
seriously.
b. It is wrong as
she knows that
everyone will
see the message
and that
Shanelle would
be upset and
embarrassed by
this.
c. She wasn’t being
nasty she was just
having a bit of fun
and the message
can be deleted
anyway.
3. Do you agree with
Shanelle’s Mum, that she could
be blowing things out of
proportion?
a. No, as Shanelle’s
friend wouldn’t
like it if Shanelle
wrote that about
her.
b. No, as
Shanelle’s Mum
doesn’t
understand,
everyone at
school will have
seen the
message.
c. Shanelle is best
speaking to her
friend face to face,
as, sometimes,
people can take
things the wrong
way.
4. Should Shanelle send a
message to her friend online?
a. No because
Shanelle should
listen to her Mum
and speak to her
friend face to face.
b. Yes as she
might do it
again and make
things worse.
c. Yes because she
upset Shanelle, so
it’s her turn to be
embarrassed.
