WHERE DID PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE ORIGINATE AND HOW DID IT SPREAD TO THE GREAT LAKES REGION?
Purple Loosestrife originated in Europe.
Settlers brought it to plant in their gardens but it escaped and started to spread.
Seeds were probably in the mud in ballast water and released when the ballast water was emptied.

HOW IS IT HARMFUL?It harms other plants and animals . It does this by spreading fast and taking over so other plants can’t grow. Animals that depend on native plants for food and shelter also suffer.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP THE SPREAD OF PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE?
We can dig up the roots. Take all the roots out of the ground .

WHY I THINK PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE IS A PROBLEM AND WHAT WE SHOULD DO ABOUT IT.
The Puple Loosestrife is crowding out the natural plants and reducing the food source for animals. We should be sure that it does not get into our water sources or farmland.
