St. Charles Borromeo Church November 10, 2019
These fall days seem to pass by so quickly; last week’s time change reminds us that the shorter and colder days are just ahead. Although as a Church, we are still “counting down” the days of the old liturgical year, there are already signs of Advent, Christmas, and the New Year around us.
In the shuffle, let’s not forget Thanksgiving, the gateway to the holiday season. Plan on attending our St Charles Thanksgiving Day Mass, Thursday, November 28, at 9:30am. Please bring your gifts of canned goods to Mass and then bring them forward at the Preparation of the Gifts (as was the practice of the early Church.) Your gifts of canned goods are also welcome all during November as part of our St Vincent de Paul November Canned Food Drive. Here are the items we need the most to help hungry families:
Boxes of cereal Pasta and sauces
Canned vegetables Canned fruits Mac/cheese
Soups Canned meats and tuna
Canned dinners, ravioli, stews, etc
Place your canned food gifts in the church lobbies when you come to Mass, or at anytime during the week. Our SvdeP volunteers also welcome supermarket gift certificates, but please do not leave gift certificates in the lobbies; drop them at the Parish Office.
Around this time of year, I ask you to use our Gift Certificate Program for your holiday shopping and also to give our Certif-icates as gifts. We carry Certificates for a wide variety of shops, stores, services, and supermarkets. For starters, just use them to buy your gas and groceries. All proceeds help to educate the children of St Charles. Stop by the Parish Office for a full listing of the Certificates we carry.
Parents of second graders, preparing for First Reconcilia-tion and First Eucharist and parents of eighth graders, prepar-ing for Confirmation, are reminded of our Third Parent Meeting scheduled for this Monday, November 11, from 7:00 till 8:00pm, in the Corrigan Gym. Our featured speaker will be that dynamic Father Ryan Mann, currently parochial vicar at St John Neumann Parish, Strongsville (formerly at St Charles 2014-2018).
St Charles Parish Council will meet this Thursday, November 14, at 7:45 pm in the John Paul II Room (second floor) of the Parish Activities Center. Work will continue on our review of the Parish Council Mission Statement and Constitution.
St Charles Finance Council met last Thursday evening. All parishes of the Diocese are audited on a regular basis by the Diocesan Financial Office. So we met with the Finance Office representatives at last Thursday’s meeting to review the results of our audit. The cover letter stated: “we wish to express our gratitude for the cooperation and assistance provided by you and your parish staff. We recognize the many strengths in your processes and your efforts to ensure the parish protect its temporal goods and complies with the many laws and regula-tions that impact the parish.”
And a final thought: please pray for me this week as I am on retreat at the Jesuit Retreat House on State Road.

MONTH OF NOVEMBER
Book of the Dead As has become our tradition at St. Charles, we will be
displaying the “Book of the Dead” in the area of the Holy
Family Shrine of church during the month of November. You
are invited to inscribe in the book, names of any and all
deceased loved ones you wish others to remember in prayer.
Merici Chapel… Do you remember when you gave a gift for a wedding, graduation, birthday? Maybe you even sacrificed to save up for that special gift. Never received a thank you note? You may receive a thank you on your phone—a text message. Did you know Jesus doesn’t have a computer or cell phone? He is wait-ing to see you, in person, in Merici Chapel to thank Him for the many gifts He has given you in your lifetime. Give thanks during this month of November — a time of Thanksgiving.
Please go to our website: stcharlesonline.org for the
convenience of filling out your family’s 2020 “My Fair
Share” form. Your completed form will be securely
sent directly to the Parish Business Office. As an alter-
native, the form is also available in this Sunday’s
bulletin if you wish to complete it and return to the
Parish Office. Thank you!

WWP Connect Coffee Talk: Getting a Grip Through Rest
We live in a world in which people are valued for what they do and what they produce. How many of us women charge through our week, going from one activity to another, ending each day exhausted? When the weekend comes, we simply switch gears for different activities. When we stop and choose to rest, however, we show that we know we are deeply loved by God - not for what we achieve, but for who we are. Please join us for an inspir-ing talk and discussion about how to truly rest; how to prepare and contemplate, turning our focus toward God. No experience necessary, just come as you are for coffee and see what Walking with Purpose is all about!

SAINT CHARLES BORROMEO PARISH
5891 Ridge Road Parma, Ohio 44129 Phone: (440) 884-3030 Fax: (440) 884-5326 Website: www.stcharlesonline.org
Dear St. Charles Parishioner, Thank you for being a part of our St. Charles Borromeo Parish family. We appreciate all that you do for our parish by sharing your God-given gifts of time, talent and treasure. Your active participation in the life of our parish helps us to fulfill our vision and mission.
It is once again time to renew your membership in St. Charles Borromeo Parish. “Belonging to a parish” is an important matter and we should make a conscious decision each year to remain a registered member.
Sixteen years ago, our Parish Council and Finance Council, together with Fr. Carlin, held 45 Town-Hall meetings to discuss how each parish family could support our community of faith. Based on feedback from these meetings, we designed the “My Fair Share” approach to parish membership and support. Parishioners stated―loud and clear― that “those who ask to be members of St. Charles are expected to help with the work the parish does and each one should do, ‘their fair share.’”
To renew your parish membership for 2020, please complete the enclosed “My Fair Share 2020” pledge form (also available in the bulletin) and return it to the Parish Office by Monday, November 18. To help our Finance Council budget for the upcoming year, please indicate how much you hope to donate to the parish in 2020, and select a payment option. This is not a “binding pledge”; just an estimated total of what you are able to contribute. If you select the credit card or automatic withdrawal payment options, our Business Office will arrange the details with you.
Within your family pledge form, please provide any updated contact information so that we may update your Parish Census record. This includes your current address, phone/cell number(s) and current email address(es).
In addition to sharing the “treasure” of your financial support, parishioners are also asked to share their “time and talent” by volunteering to help with worship, service or education ministries of interest to them. For more information on available opportunities, see the parish website: www.stcharlesonline.org.
Thank you for your generous support and participation in My Fair Share. Families that have not returned their pledge form by November 18 will receive a follow-up communication until a response is received. “My Fair Share 2020” Committee St. Charles Borromeo Parish Finance Council
